Do you guys know who Chris Cornell is? You must not because I seriously don't see how anyone who has heard Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden, or Audioslave could say that this is anything but pure, audible feces. He has one of the best, most distinguishable voices in the history of rock, and now he's singing over beats, and not just any beats, beats that belong on a Justin Timberlake or Nelly Furtado album.

Jesus !%#*#%* Christ.

- Tical.
but those beats are insane and more creative then anything that has been in rock the past few years which is the reason why chris contacted timbo because tim always pushes the limit unlike rock these days.

You must be out of your mind man. Completely. Out. Of. Your. Mind. Seriously? Rock is genre of monotonous and mundane music? Wow.

I understand that you're a Timbo fan (enough to the point where you have him in your avy), but there is no way that producing beats for rock legends is ok, much less good. I'm not trying to argue here because you're a cool guy and it's obvious that our tastes in music are at completely different ends of the spectrum, but I don't see how you can like this crap. Have you heard of any of those bands I listed?

- Tical.
I'm not talking about the beats on the scream album being more creative than anything in rock the past few years, I was talkin about the beats used on nelly and justin's album being more creative than anything in rock the previous years before those albums came out which is why I can understand why chris to wanted to work with tim. The result defintely wasn't as good as nelly and jt's albums but I don't think it was complete trash that made me want to lay on my back and throw up, resulting in my suffocation and death. And I liked soundgarden a lot, not so much audioslave and I agree with you about his voice being one of the best and his cover of "billie jean" was amazing imo.

That's still one of the most erroneous statements I've ever seen in all my years on Niketalk. Saying something like that makes me think the amount ofrock you listen to is equal to the amount of copies this album would sell if everyone considering the purchase got to listen to it first. Fact is, he has anamazing voice but the music he makes sucks beyond belief unless he has a band of good musicians behind him and this new album proves it without a shadow of adoubt.

- Tical.

How about you prove me wrong instead of copping out with the elitist tag? Name me all of the songs he's done in his solo career that are equal to anythingin Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden, and Audioslave...

Most Tool fans are "aholes" because Tool is better than every other band in the history of the world

I've listened to Timberlake's but I refuse to subject myself to anything Nelly.

I'm mad because I've listened to him since I was young and I, unlike everyone else on NT who's heard it, realize that this album is orders ofmagnitude crappier than his stuff with his previous bands. So you can see where I'm coming from, this is like Jay-Z or Nas letting Miley Cirus'producer do their entire next album. I don't mind Timbaland's stuff, but there's no place for it with a guy like Cornell.

- Tical.

well it does all boil down to opinion
but cmon, cornell needed to express himself in another nature
and this sounds alright

i just mad cause i can't afford diezels and silverburst gibbys

nice try!
+ kamakazitp, on 03/12/2009, -1/+27they are both good, however the recent cornell stuff has little connection to the good music he used to make.
+ vondrak, on 03/12/2009, -1/+17Soundgarden is awesome, but Chris isn't Soundgarden. I like his previous solo stuff, but I saw him in Nov. with Timbaland and it was awful. Timbaland sucked hardcore, and Chris only played his new stuff. Nothing from his other solo albums, nothing from SG except the encore when Timbaland came out and they played an atrocious cover of Blackhole Sun.
I really hope this is just an experiment and he gets back to making solid music soon.
+ specialK16, on 03/12/2009, -7/+3HAHAHA OH WOW

o ImYourRealDad, on 03/13/2009, -7/+6Oh, %*%# you and your high horse. Timbaland is a very well respected producer in the music industry, so just because you're not a particular fan of his work doesn't give you a reason to discredit him. The song in question was Chris Cornell's and he has the final say regarding his work, Timbaland went with his direction.

o lisaatucla, on 03/13/2009, -9/+2timbaland is one of the best producers. but bc he doesn't cut himself and act emo, he's not cool enough for you guys.

o MrGrownUpMan, 23 hr 41 min ago, -1/+1I tell you what, go out there, learn how to play a !#++%@! instrument, master it, go through a mass of bands, play gigs for little to nothing pay, to even having to pay to play, haul all your gear around yourself (including yours, and your bands, its a lot more than a %***+! mic and decks), self promote, self manage, structure a complete song, using real instruments, chords, progressions, not automated #%#! on a computer, real tuning, live play, vocals, etc. Then come back and tell me how good Rap and Hip Hop is.

As someone who puts the hard yards in to do all that, it !#++%@! pisses me off when people call automated, pre-recorded !*!@$+@# "music", and the people who use it "musos". I do the hard yards, I've been through many bands, putting the yards in to master my craft, set up shows, I promote and help bands to give them a chance, I'm in a sound tech course so I can go and help them even more, I run weekly "muso jams" to help people come together and learn their craft with others. Not trying to suck my own *%+! here, just saying I know what i'm talking about.

Bury me all you like, digg is full of sheep that won't read past the first line because they don't give a #%#! about anything more than their own personal gratification.

The band posts charts of what they're listening too every week on their website. How the hell would they make good music if they believed their music was the only thing worth listening too?

I have little doubt Thom would agree the OP is just talking out of his %*+.

All in all, lame attempt at a joke. 0/10.

In Rainbows: Latest album from Radiohead.
o lostarchitect, on 03/12/2009, -2/+54woah there, short stuff. hold your horses.

in rainbows? really? the ONLY decent album? Are you aware that radiohead released some excellent records before that? Have you heard Nirvana's nevermind? That was 91, i believe. Did you know that The Clash released Combat Rock in 1982? How about 1987's Appetite for Destruction by Guns n' Roses? Let's not forget Nothing's Shocking (1988) by Jane's Addiction. Nick Cave's Let Love In was 1994. Amazing album. And how about Pixies, who released 4 albums from 1988 on... all of which are damn good. Leonard Cohen's released no fewer than 5 albums since 1979, most of which were pretty good. Speaking of Nine Inch Nails, all Trent's stuff is post '79 and a fair chunk of it is good.

I'm gonna stop now because this could get long. But you get my point, I'm sure.

I have had the misfortune of dealing with Trent professionally, and from my experience he is a two faced $!+%!.

In person he is all smiles and then he gets behind the keyboard and sends all caps flame storms via email and on his forums. He told a fan on his message board that he wanted to punch him through a wall for simply saying he didnt like the Saul Williams project. How $!+%! is that?

The dude was definitely one of the weakest artists I have ever worked with profesionally.

Bury me if you want, but it has nothing to do with his music which I like. Hes just a grade A %%$!*$$#*.

I can see why people like Trent hes a great media manipulator and has crafted his image well. Theres just another side. Im all for being demanding, but there's demanding and then theres keyboard commando !*!@$+@#.

Trent prefers the latter. So I'm not surprised he bashed Cornell on the tubes.
+ Velvolver, on 03/13/2009, -0/+4He doesn't like working with hacks, I can see why you and him didn't mesh.

I actually really liked the Casino Royale theme, made me hopeful about this album. But now look what's happened.

o uberfr4gger, on 03/13/2009, -0/+2I LOVE Soundgarden and I still enjoy Audioslave. I love Cornell but I will not defend his last two solo albums, I just can't. I wish we could somehow have Soundgarden back but then I think what might happen if they actually do get back together. Anyway, I think its sad really. I'll always love Soundgarden and Audioslave but Chris' solo career is something that does not need to be mentioned.

Apparently, the following tracks are on the Scream CD:

"Long Gone"

"Part of Me"

...And they really are terrible.

+ jer21, on 03/12/2009, -4/+23Audioslave's first CD was amazing...the second was decent...the third sucked.
+ clclark33, on 03/12/2009, -16/+2The common theme between Soundgarden and Audioslave is that Cornell is by far the weakest component. He's nothing more than a hair metal vocalist who writes lyrics that aren't all that great. Both bands had great musicians and a sub-par, one dimensional vocalist. Egad.
+ UltraMegaFilms, on 03/12/2009, -2/+11Calling Cornell a one dimensional vocalist makes you sound like a novice. This album is really disappointing, but Soundgarden is not a mediocre group.
+ clclark33, on 03/12/2009, -11/+4@UltraMegaFilms:

Not reading a post before replying makes you look like a novice. I did NOT say Soundgarden was mediocre. In fact, I like Soundgarden. I just acknowledge that Cornell is a sub-par vocalist. I really dig Rage Against the Machine and like the music of Audioslave, but the vocals there make me cringe. Again, it's Cornell's vocals. I enjoy music from nearly all genres and many of the bands I like have bad vocalists.... Soundgarden is just one of many. But to call him a great, or even pretty good vocalist/lyricist is a stretch.
+ MokeyAUS, on 03/13/2009, -0/+3@clclark33 You're kidding me right? Cornell has got quite possibly my favourite voice in music. It's powerful, it's raw and he has a pretty decent range.

Anyway, Soundgarden is grunge remember. Lyrics weren't meant to make sense back then

+ merreborn, on 03/12/2009, -4/+20Cornell is irrelevant. Reznor's still the man.

The newer NIN albums haven't been totally mindblowing, but he gets major points for revolutionary marketing, from the Year Zero ARG, to the online distribution of Ghosts I-IV.

This man is helping to shape the future of music distribution and marketing.

+ danwallace, on 03/12/2009, -2/+12Except they're both still consistently releasing music, thereby making them artists from this decade. And, for someone to have been around as long as Cornell, he should have known how terrible this record was going to sound. If it was one song, ok, I agree: give him a break. But the whole album? Please.
o jiggawatt, on 03/12/2009, -3/+24Are you kidding me? The Slip, a completely free album, was one of the better ones this past year, and certainly one of the better NIN albums IMO.

I vehemently disagree with you.

Cornell has been around slightly longer than Reznor, but has done a steady decline into obscurity since. It's just all bland crap. Temple of the Dog and Badmotorfinger and early Sound Garden stuff was good, but it's like he lost all creative ideas after that. The guy lost it a while ago. Audioslave was mediocre, and much overhyped. The band had something unique and creative with RATM, but sounded like just another badly crooning Nickleback in Audioslave.
o SmokenJoe, on 03/12/2009, -4/+2Did you listen to either album? There are no shortage of BS artists and lairs no need to add to it.

Superunknown was a great record.

The samples are an example of what lack of focus sounds like. I think that's the biggest problem with music these days -- too many instruments and production techniques at hand and the belief that they need to use them all on every song.

Good art is the result of some constraint be it limited set of instruments, themes, or colors.

Well that's fine that Trent thinks the album is #%#!, judging by the single that's out I'm sure it is. However, while Reznor is a very talented artist, I get the distinct impression that he literally believes everything he does is perfect. Sorry, Trent, but as great as you (and NIN) are, you've had at least a couple #%#! albums in your career. Cornell has had one, give him a break.

o pixelate, on 03/12/2009, -12/+4Cornell has now had at least six (three Audioslave, three solo) #%#! albums by my count.

In my mind it doesn't diminish Soundgarden's legacy. NIN has had plenty of ups and catastrophic downs of its own. Laziness in production was a hallmark of Trent's sound for a while.

Not sure which is more sad... defending Chris Cornell's post-Soundgarden stuff, or blindly eating up everything related to Trent Reznor. Has-been, meet %%$!*$$#*.
o trunk8, on 03/12/2009, -1/+16I don't get that impression at all....in fact, I get the impression that Trent is never satisfied with anything he releases. It's known that he spends a lot of time remixing and fine tuning anything before he releases it, and there's always tweaks and variations in live versions. Also, he challenges fans and other artists to remix his songs. That doesn't exactly scream "conceited" to me. All he did was say what we all were thinking about CC's new album, simple as that.

+ arcticsoft, on 03/12/2009, -6/+2And thats why he releases like 3-6 podcasts a day?

o merreborn, on 03/12/2009, -14/+1Wow, he toured with NIN for 3 years on keyboards? That's quite a claim to fame.
+ JoeMcMonagle, on 03/12/2009, -0/+11Wow, you anonymously insulted someone via the internet? That's quite the credentials to back your opinion. Check out his other projects, Modwheelmood and blindoldfreak. Both of which are very interesting. Also keyboards weren't really his primary job - he actually didn't know how to play keyboards at all until after joining NIN and basically just learned enough to play the songs. Oh, to add to that, he's also credited a couple times on the past few albums, including a couple songs on Ghosts. I definitely put to much thought in response to such an ill-informed, ignorant outburst.
+ wingo123, on 03/12/2009, -0/+5Dude, I just saw him perform solo the other night. You have no idea what you are talking about. He is a stunningly talented musician. And I'm not even a huge NIN fan. He has the right to diss this garbage.

Cornell should have worked with, oh I don't know, Jack White. Now that would be epic. Timbaland for the %!%? moment of the year.

o bobthegreat1224, on 03/12/2009, -5/+1I'm not overly fond of Timbaland, and ProTools pitch correction is for the weak, but at least he takes the time to acknowledge that people typically like their music on pitch. Jack White is not kind to the ears. This is coming from a Dillinger fan.

And although I agree that a Cornell/Timbaland pairing is ******ed, there's a certain record label logic behind it. Audioslave's last album didn't fare nearly as well as the first, and the band split ways. Cornell is a household name, and they want to capitalize on that before he washes out of the public consciousness. So they need a big name producer, preferably someone who craps #1 singles. Right now that's Timbaland. Say what you like about his talent or artistic merits (I can replicate almost any of his songs in about 10 minutes in FL Studio), but right now he's got the Midas touch.

Um, has Trent Reznor ever heard his own music? He has been making %%%%$$ low-fi electronic music with comically cheesy drum machine beats for a couple of decades now.

I'm gonna get destroyed by the hivemind, but I think some of Trent's more recent lyrics are pretty embarassing. Mostly I'm thinking that "There is no you, there is only me" song where he talks through the whole thing and says some silly stuff.

On the other hand, the music kills as usual, and I saw the live show a couple months back and that was....well....wow. Just wow.

If you want to hear a good Chris Cornell solo album, do yourself a favor and pick up Euphoria Morning. He wrote that album with Alain Johannes and Natasha Shneider on guitar and keys (Eleven, QOTSA) and Josh Freese on drums (Who also played with NIN, funny enough). Brilliant record.

I generally love Cornell's work, but I can't stomach Scream at all. I don't know what the %*%# he was thinking producing a record with Timbaland of all people. The guy is a one-trick hack who has an ear for simply what's marketable, not what's original or fresh.

o SPT48, on 03/12/2009, -4/+9Timbaland produced a track on MIA's album and that #%#! is tight. I'd say he has an ear for talent
+ MarkOfTheDead, on 03/13/2009, -0/+1The one he can't rap for #%#! on?

That's the only MIA song i skip over. The beat is ok and he should really stick to that, rather than slaughtering what might have been a good song with his half-bit cameos.
o SanTe, on 03/12/2009, -1/+6Disagree with you completely about Euphoria Morning. I hated that record so much when I first heard it that I refused to even listen to any of his future solo records, and it looks like it saved me a lot of pain. Carry On got ignored into oblivion for sucking badly and it looks like this one is even worse.
+ SquigglyP, on 03/13/2009, -0/+1I have to disagree with your disagreement.

I think that album just needs a few listens before you realize how awesome it is. The first time I heard it I felt kinda let down that it was so different from the soundgarden sound, but after listening to it a few times I got completely addicted to it, and it's remained one of my most played albums since.

I have hated almost everything Audioslave has put out, tho. And, yes, aside from a few tracks, his following solo stuff has not been very good at all.
o AZExile, on 03/12/2009, -0/+5ahhh Josh Freese - the only drummer I've found that will quickly get my girlfriend out of the room when I need some "me-time"

Vandals ftw.
+ soot, on 03/12/2009, -0/+2Yeah, Freese is great.
+ Velvolver, on 03/13/2009, -0/+1recommend me the best vandals album so I might listen. do it
o cinch123, on 03/13/2009, -0/+2I completely agree. Euphoria Morning is a great album. It proves what a legendary voice Chris had back in the day. Now, however, you get to hear what 20 years of screaming will do to your voice. What a shame.

o stonebone4, on 03/12/2009, -0/+8I've been a huge Cornell fan for years and have long since touted him as one of the greatest singers in music history.

But seriously, when offered his new album from Amazon MP3 for $3, I said no way. I dig when great artists experiment (Mike Patton is a great example, he does all sorts of wacky stuff and 99% of it is amazing) but this is just unlistenable.
+ mikebb79, on 03/12/2009, -1/+4Tomahawk ftw
o wollsmosh, on 03/12/2009, -0/+4Things can be different in a good way, or in a bad way. This album is different in a bad way.

Besides, although it's different from what Cornell usually does, it's not very different at all from your average Justin Timberlake song.
o Nitelite, on 03/12/2009, -0/+7I smoke a lot of weed. I gave smoking crack a chance and then realized it was a bad idea.

Hopefully Chris will realize the same type of thing about his "new direction".
o db74, on 03/13/2009, -0/+1ned7077: I kinda had the same feeling after digging a little, watching Chris say he wanted to expand what a rock singer could do, etc. My problem is he should have stretched Timbaland further away from what he usually does (musically). They could have done some more edgy stuff with beats/drums mixing programmed beats with live drums, guitars mixed in, a little rock sprinkled in. The problem with this album is it's not dangerous and not new. Timbaland does they same 'ol work with the beats and Chris seems too soft vocally. Not saying he could do some softer vocal work, but the whole album feels this way.

I don't know if it's because I never heard any of chris's songs when he was in his bands or his other solo stuff but to me this album is amazing. Ilike some of the changes they made on a couple of the songs from the leaked version made it even better.

Holy christ, NT is just a bunch of Timbo knob slobbers. This album is GARBAGE. Actually, they should make a new category at the Grammys for "Biggest Pileof Trash Album," and just hand it to Cornell right now. There is absolutely nothing redeeming about this self-indulgent crap.
