From a white person perspective who loves hip hop I'll break this down...
I Love College is a terrible song to just bump alone but at a Frat Party or a regular college party it is guaranteed to get bumped, for the purpose of the songit meets the point it was trying to make..And with that it will be successful 1. because normal suburban kids will eat it up. 2. You will hear it at so manyparties it will convince some people to go out and buy the cd..
Asher Roth is alright but he's not capable to be top 10 during any time or even prominent in the game at anytime.. He may be highly successful but hewon't be accepted by hip hop like Eminem because he will not have a song that will completely catch their attention.
Also he has set a bad lane for his career... He will always get compared to Em because face it he sounds just like him and happens to be white and portraysthat I dont give a $+@* what you say attitude... But anyone who thinks he is on Em's capabilities are mistaken.
Also he has set himself into the college type music... It will get old within a couple years because people will be like man will he make a different song Iunderstand he likes college but come on didn't he graduate. So he will have to reinvent his career and with the way music consumerism is it will be 100%impossible unless you are the top name in hip hop..
Also I used to be an MC... I put down the mic to pursue a different career path that would completely frown on rapping and would destroy that career path. Butas a white rapper I realized early you must be versatile, you must make every type of song.. You can't just put yourself into 1 niche and say I will dothis as a career because especially as a white rapper you will fail... I never talked about popping guns and selling drugs but I would tell stories aboutconsequences of decisions, pen my own stories about made up lives that also has a message, make a song with metaphors only, then come back with a party song,and make a personal song, then a cruising song then a song about girls and or love like records.. You have to do that or your career will be short and boringwhich is what Asher has done to himself. He doesn't need to be ultra gangster but he needs to diversify himself.
