guys, iv notice 5 dots on the back of the air zoom mvp...is it part of the alpha project???i know the 5 dots where evident in the alpha project apparel...

the alpha project doesn't really exist anymore. but with the most recently shoes that have the dots, Jason Petrie (sp?) put them on

Yep, Alphaproject is his screename here, and a good few of the shoes he's designed have the five dots on them.

I helped launch ALPHA Project in the 90's (Air Zoom Citizen, Air Zoom Seismic, and Air Vis Zoom Uptempo). If you're referring to the five holes on thelateral side of the upper, those appear to be functional lace holes. Seeing as none of the previous ALPHA Project shoes incorporated the dots into structuralcomponents, I would guess that these aren't specifically ALPHA Project shoes.

CWK- that's awesome that you helped launch the Alpha Project. A few questions: What was the basis of starting the project? What was your favorite shoe? Doyou know why the Alpha Project seemed to decline, and then dissappear? And, if you can answer this, what was your role?

arff23 - I stand corrected (I tried to find a heel view image, but couidn't.)

an808cuacASIA - I played several different minor roles in the launch of ALPHA Project. At retail, I was NIKE Concept Shop Specialist andfocus group member (we saw the shoes and provided feedback to designers and developers about 18 months before they launched.) I also worked in the weartestprogram and owned the first pair of production BB4's in North America because I was a size 16 like Vince Carter. I liked all three shoes in the firstlaunch and wore them out.

Some of my my collection from around that time:

"anyone ball in these yet?"

Yes - they're great! They're low, but not Chuck Taylor/BB/BB2 low low. Traction is great, lockdown is great, and cushioning is great. I wear ASO anklebraces with them, but I do that with every shoe regardless.

And for perspective, I'm a 6'2", 178lbs wing.

Can't wait for more colorways!

Air Vis Zoom Uptempo aka "The Tim Duncan's 1999".

I had those summer 1999. Very good ballin' shoes, with the monkey paw. Tim Duncan,Sean Elliot, and a couple other Spurs wore them en route to the 'ship that season. I had the colorways Allan Houston and Alonzo Mourning wore in the 1999playoffs.

Thanks. May have to try these out.

still love my obsidian/yellow zoom seismics. wore them on my surgery rotation back in med school, soooo comfy for being on you feet all day. even when iwear them now, necks break all over the place.

i'm praying they release the LOW top version of this that Steve Nash has been wearing....christmas ones as well....

sadly I've seen no info on the low top versions of this shoe.

Well, they're actually pretty low. Not THAAAAT BB/BB2 low, but still lower than my lowest pair of sneakers, the Air Max Enforcers... while I can'timagine not using ankle braces while playing in any shoe, I would never ever use the Zoom MVP without them under any circumstance.

Actually, the dots occured in several colors (see below). The scale and composition of the dots on the MVP looks like ALPHA to me.

those dots look a little thicker.

if alphaproject the designer is putting them on the shoes he diesngs

I bought the blackout colorway about two weeks ago. One thing I can attest to is that they are for sure comfortable! I've hooped in two league games and acouple of shootarounds with them. Im 6"0' and 195lbs. Im a 2guard, mostly mid to long range catch and shoot-type and slashin' off the triplethreat. From my perspective, they're a bit too low I must say since I had been hoopin' in Hyperdunks and Jays. Because of a previous considerableinjury exactly about a year ago, I've been wearing ASO's on that one ankle. These MVP's allow the brace to protect the foot without feeling likeyou have to really tug on the laces to tighten the actual shoe, as it was the case with the HD's. However, because it has been a year along with the smoothfeel of the inner bootie, I've decided not to wear the ASO anymore to strenghten that ankle even more. I can also tell you they have above average tractiontoo! I can definitely notice on the first step or more importantly while on defense since that has been my flaw from my last injury. These just seemed to allowa more free range of motion when shuffling your feet on the defensive stance while also keeping the foot locked in there. I'd say they are well worth the$92. Use the code for eastbay, get a $10 tee and get your 30% off since you need to spend $99 to get it!!!! you should end up paying like 80 some for themshipped! I hope that helps y'all out!!!

The logic for the reasoning that the dots aren't representative of AP is that the dots aren't the same color?

Come on, people.
