Jobless and Frustrated NTers check in VOL. WE NOT-WORKIN!!!

What's a good job to go for where you can make decent money but don't necessarily have a degree geared towards that specific career?

I have a bachelor 's in Criminal Justice, but the jobs are so damn political :smh:

I'm open to a lot. Things I dislike are food related industries (waiting, bartending, etc).

I'm reaching desperation mode. I have two part time jobs and one per diem job, but still barely get by.

U can't be picky bro. As far as the jobs that make decent money but don't have a degree towards, it's moreso IT, unless u look at the retail, hospitality, or food service fields.

What's a typical IT gig? Any certifications I need?

I have my BS and am currently taking a course in Marketing Fundamentals, so I've been checking on SEO and digital marketing jobs because I have experience in eComm.

Graduated college in 2008 and still don't have a career path? The feeling is terrible.

Keep your head up. If criminal Justice is what you want go for it. I would suggest conducting infomational interview in your spare time it is the best way to network and get contacts in your field. No one has ever shot me down when asking if i could sit down with them for an informational interview.

Man, after months and months of getting turned down, not getting any calls back, to stressing the **** out I'm finally going to start working at Amazon :smokin

I'm not a regular in this thread but seeing how so many of y'all didn't give up and kept positive really helped me along the way and pushed me.

Its absolutely true when they say don't ever give up, and to always keep your faith high that something better will come along.

Thanks guys for all your stories; and for all my people out there still unemployed you WILL find something as long as you're motivated :D

Already on it plus career services provides printouts of companies based on Majors so I'll already know which booths to hit
Apply to the companies open positions BEFORE you go to career fairs, so you won't get the "Apply Online" responses.

this way if they like you, the get your name and just pull your app and push it through the next faze.
Exactly, it puts you ahead of the game. Shows that your taking initiative and that your interested in the company. Its even better if you know about the positions you have applied for and why you think you are a good fit/qualified.

Good to hear. Great company to work for. What's the position?

I know we're all in here looking for work and employment tips but don't let anyone ever take advantage of you because you're in need of a check. This temp job was arguably one of the worst experiences I've had. It's easy to see why this company (they're international) can't retain people in this department. Going to let the agency that sent me here know that under any circumstance I will not return. With this I figured that this is another place that has it's recruiters work on commission.

4 months after graduation and moving to a new place. Finally got a job at Yale. I am so thankful. Keep your head up fellas. It will be that much sweeter once you get that job. Please let me know if I can be of any assistance to anyone here.

Whats those resumes looking like? Going to start applying for new jobs and am making my first "official" resume and need some ideas.

i swear!! im better off getting hit by lighting then landing a job. Been to 4 interviews not even one. SMH went to one today, they said they'll call me back most likely its a no, but sent them a thank you letter. just gotta keep on pushin guess.

I list my education first. Then I combine themes of where I worked and put the most relevant theme 1st

Been working at BMW for a little over 2 years and just quit, got a new job at Mercedes Benz. Going from 15/hour +monthly bonus at BMW to 23/hour and after 90 days it goes up to 25/hour plus monthly bonus ( usually $800 +) . Not bad for someone who is 21 years.

What do you do up there?

That CV maker tool seems promising. I've been meaning to overhaul my resume, might finally get around to doing so.

If there are any folks looking for resume reviews, interview tips, etc.

Feel free to PM or email me.

Best wishes to all on their searches.
Will do

Anyway, was brought back for a second interview yesterday and it went well, probably better than the first. Wasn't given a timetable on when I'd hear back, but it'll definitely be before the end of the the month. Position begins in November.

Just updated my resume and gonna hit up a recruiter that I was referred to with it.

If you live in LA and have a a B.A in anything besides liberal arts, PM me.

EDIT: hmm 3200th post. Glad I could use it to help folk out :pimp:

Had a phone interview last week.. She's saying this is just a meeting so do I dress as if it's an interview or just relaxed business casual?
