Jobless and Frustrated NTers check in VOL. WE NOT-WORKIN!!!

not talking about your local shopping mall type jobs. But an actual job that's your career

Is online basically the only way to apply these days. Mostly through a company site or their specified email?

Gone are the days where you'd mail it to them, or apply in person?

Just lost my job. I was a sales rep for a major Air conditioning company. Started with them about a month and a half ago. Never been in sales before, but felt like I was doing pretty good. Went to go ask my boss something and next thing I know he says he's letting me go because I'm not meeting their expectations. I haven't been unemployed since I started working at 15. I really don't know where to go from here. He was going to try and get me in another position in the company, but he says it's not for sure. He also left the door open for me to come back to the position in the future, but it just doesn't make sense to me. He also offered to write me a letter of recommendation. I need work ASAP I'm literally broke because I spent money on things I needed for the job and a hospital bill from last week. Any Niketalkers in South FL know of any HVAC companies looking for anyone please let me know I'm willing to be a helper/apprentice if I have to. I have all my certifications.

Since you're certified, look into hotel engineering. Hotels usually have a high turnover and easier and quicker to get into than a bigger company w/ a lot of red tape. Now that's only temporary until u find something better but w/ a hotel u can hand ur app in directly to a manager which is what I like.

lol everything is online now from the company website to craigslist etc

even for the gigs in the shopping mall i guess its the new way to weed out those who arent as "technically inclined" aka old people

even moooooore specific. gotta go by city man. its ok, nobody is stalking u here lol

i live in tampa florida so if u still need a reference i got you. but ur retail and im on the business systems and router side of things so i dont think itll hold AS MUCH weight. good luck man!

Repped good looks man. I just moved down from NY and I'd definitely say this is a step in the right direction. My uncle is friendly with the manager and workers in there so he talked to them for me also. Fingers are crossed.

Pending a background check, I can proudly say, I'm not longer jobless and frustrated. Would begin next month. I'm going to stick around to give tips and advice.

I've still been regularly reading this thread despite finally finding work a few months ago, but I'm really happy for you, man. I've read all your posts in the thread and it's great to see you finally get an opportunity.

Congrats.

Congrats to everyone in here getting their chances to contribute to the workforce and society

And for those still grinding, don't give up. Your time is coming. Just continue to push forward and keep a level head. Anything y'all need, PM me.

interview suggestions:

Have a personality, even if you don't.

I'd say find a way to take your professional talk to a personal level. Sports, a funny story, something.

Someone didn't get hired recently for being boring. Another person didn't get hired for being weird. My boss's words exactly.

Who wouldn't prefer to work with someone who is social and friendly rather than introverted?

I just need to land an interview right now. I kind of want to jump fields. The leap isn't that big but I may not necessarily be qualified for my desired position so I'm trying to start somewhere and hopefully make a little more money along the way

YES!!! This is key, having a personality will definitely increase your chances. Even if you make a joke and they don't laugh don't be discouraged. They have to keep that professional setting but they might see that you have a light easy going side to you.

I was posed with this question at my first police dept interview.

Interviewer: If a store manager ask you to do more patrols in exchange for free coffee what would you do?

Me: Well first off, I don't drink coffee (said it with a slight smile and chuckle, but it's true I don't drink coffee) but I would guarantee the store manager blah blah blah

Interviewers:

I didn't care that they didn't laugh but it showed them that I had somewhat of a personality and wasn't too nervous or intimidated.

My interviewer at AT&T said he would give me a call back Thursday-Saturday to setup another interview with the store manager. Nothing yet. Should I be worried?

Nah, they do take a while. When u do get the interview w/ the store manager their whole focus is sales and availability, keep that in mind

Starting my new job at the Navy Yard this Monday.

congrats bro. best of luck.

Just got a start date for the county position I was offered. Can't say how good this feels man. I have been struggling with my confidence and faith over this past year and I learned more about myself and this economy that I feel I'm definitely stronger and wiser than I was before.

That's just how I felt before my last interview for the job I'm starting soon. I literally received a denial letter on the same day I was called to interview for another position in the same county department. Don't give up. I realized that once I stopped beatin myself up and started buildin myself up that I felt alot better and started to do things differently job search wise.

I'm in the exact same position except I don't have a job at all. Down to the last of my savings so if I don't land something soon I'm probably going to have to move back to my moms. Trying to stay positive out here though, good luck to everyone on the hunt.

for resumes you're better off going to your school's career center, i doubt the services where you pay to have someone do it for you will be that much more effective
