Jobless and Frustrated NTers check in VOL. WE NOT-WORKIN!!!

I have a decent gig, but I'm looking for a better one, I've been trying to get a job in Atlanta for about a year, I finally got the call to in for testing. Now I'm nervous as **** even though I have six years experience. If I do get it, it'll be a great raise in pay, plus I'll get out of this country as town.

Well... the people that are usually scared are the people who have something to hide.

If you have nothing to hide, there's nothing to be scared about. Mine Polygraph took awhile, but I wasn't intimidated at all.

What do you have next? The background check huh?
nah went through the background before the polygraph i had my medical exam tuesday I go before the board to let them tell me if i got the job next wednesday then im done so we will see i think im in for now my investigator kinda said it the academy starts on may 5th im currently working at delta so im trying to see if ill have to immediately start or if they will make me wait til may 5th

Oh congrats bro! I hope you're in! What's starting salary in Atlanta?

This lady I met at a Networking Happy Hour emailed me yesterday about a recruiter that's looking for a Marketing Assistant doing some digital marketing work. Told me that I should contact the recruiter directly. Called the recruiter and chatted with her for a bit, she went over the position duties and asked me to send over my resume and I did. She's suppose to call me sometime today so I hope I get that call. This could be a big break for me.

I'm not unemployed but I've been applying to other jobs that interests me more. Do anybody know how serious an employer is about the amount you put for the salary amount when asked? Would they automatically eliminate you from the job if you ask for more than what they are willing to give or would they let you know later if they like you as a potential employee?

I've been applying bros.. quit my last job to look for better opportunities.. I was a Part time Bank Teller.. but now I have a BA in Economics so I'm looking to establish myself now.. its been 3 months now :smh:

I was the most outgoing person when it came to work and hustling. I had a full time job and a part time as well and I went to school all at the same time. My luck changed when I broke my ankle and since I worked at a clinic I was not able to work for the duration for regulation purposes and unable to walk because of surgery.  What I decided to do is dive completely in to school and focus on that only.  I started looking for a job 8 months after I left my jobs and it was so difficult getting one but I still kept going.  I have a girlfriend that honestly without her I would have caved in but she kept me strong and upbeat.  Our relationship took a hit because we had so many plans going and they were put to the side.  I was in panic mode when my unemployment ran out and didn't know what to do.  Luckily I have never burned any of my bridges and I was able to get 2 jobs again and I am currently back in school.  Moral of the story. Keep going even though the times might seem like they are at their hardest. I have found a new strength that I didnt know I had before.  Keep FIGHTING the good fight.

There will be light at the end of the tunnel.

Never quit your job until you have something else. You were part time, but at least you had a steady flow of income. You thought about going back to school to get your masters in Econ? Did you do any field related internships while in school?

If its optional, leave it blank. What you list could be way more than they're willing to offer or worse, less than the industry standard. Only discuss salary when they bring it up.

I normally leave it blank if I've the option but this time I couldn't. I was wondering that would that have any affects on the position?

At the time when I quit it was for another job opportunity. Financial Advising, which required me to get licensed (series 7 and series 66)... But the first time around I wasn't as serious about the studying as I should of been, so I just quit that job as well.. Yes, I do plan on going back to get my masters.

What sites are you dudes using to search? I'm usually on indeed. Nothing ever really jumps out at me while I'm in there. There's a thread about USAjobs.gov, I'm in the military and I still don't understand some of the terminology used on that site.

After 4 interviews for 4 different positions at the same company (feels good to be wanted), I finally got an offer from a bank's commercial banking group. Put in my two weeks notice yesterday :pimp:

Underpaid, under employed and a horrible commute for far too long.

For my NTer's looking for new opportunities, something that resonated with me in my search was to really know what YOU do and how it plays into the "big picture" and/or adds to the bottom line. It sounds simple enough but not enough people give tangible reasons for why a company should hire YOU. Too often job seekers just list their tasks and responsibilities but don't back it up with numbers or real life examples of the value they add.

For example, with my job it took me awhile to really articulate what I do using the industry jargon and how to present the unique experience I acquired at my smaller company.

Just read this on yahoo:

[COLOR=#red]North Dakota wants you: New campaign seeks to fill 20,000 jobs

Looking for a job? North Dakota wants you.

In a new recruiting campaign to be rolled out in May, the North Dakota Economic Development Foundation is aiming to fill more than 20,000 jobs -- ranging from truck drivers and oilfield workers to receptionists and food servers.

North Dakota's huge oil boom has spurred thousands of job seekers to flock to the state for years now. In some cities, the population has quadrupled.

Yet, the growth continues and companies are still so desperate for workers that the state is teaming up with oil giant Hess Corp. to launch an $800,000 campaign to attract new talent.

Related: How to get talented people to work in the middle of nowhere

"It is being developed to target people in states with chronic unemployment, and people in industries that are high-demand in North Dakota, including: engineering, healthcare, energy, skilled trades, transportation and information technology," the foundation said in a statement.

The push will include a website, marketing efforts and recruiting events.

The state is also trying to convince potential employees that North Dakota is not only a good place to get a job, but a great place to live, dubbing it the "Find the Good Life in North Dakota" campaign.

But this could be a harder sell.

Over the past few years, the flood of workers moving to the state -- specifically to the Northwest corner where oil activity is greatest -- has caused a severe housing shortage.

In Williston, a town at the center of the boom, home prices have more than tripled and rent there is currently the highest in the nation, according to a new report from Apartment Guide, a website for finding apartment rentals.

Even though many employees are now raking in six-figure salaries, they are essentially homeless, living in their cars in parking lots, in other peoples' basements, in RVs or even in churches.

Along with a housing crunch, crime has skyrocketed, traffic is grueling, and local restaurants and retailers struggle to keep up with the surge in demand -- resulting in higher prices and longer waits.

And, of course, there's always the below-freezing temperatures, with wind chills plunging under negative 50 during the winters.

Could be worth a shot.

People have been discussing that for a minute now in this thread. Cubanref, I believe is there. Rents there are rivaling that of Manhattan, working on the rig itself is a huge risk as he's said that people have lost fingers. This is your typical boomtown from the crime to the locals being unable to meet the demand, but from everything I've read, this isn't for those who are soft or timid.

I've been trying to get into at&t for months now... Had an interview with corporate but didn't get the call back from the store... Anyone ever been through that process?

Also, if you don't have the job and possess the skills before you get there, you will be homeless.

Same as Midland, Texas right now.... My Girl just moved back to Midland from Houston and has more interviews in 3 days back home (5) than she ever did in Houston and she was hitting the pavement hard... Im currently looking into getting my TWIC card and maybe my Class B CDL so I can find work instantly once I transition to Midland later this year!!!! Oil is where the money is bros!!!!
