Jobless and Frustrated NTers check in VOL. WE NOT-WORKIN!!!

jayhood23 jayhood23 Right now the dept. is evaluating/ranking us by of our written && physical scores, as well as each of our interviews that were conducted right after the physical two weekends ago. I think 4 spots are available (only 9 of us out of like 25 passed the written portion in January  :smh:), so whomever gets a call or mail back, I'm assuming, will be starting the academy in either June or August.

The physical part was a minimum of 29 push ups in a minute, 38 sit-ups in a minute, a flexibility test (just had to sit down && touch your toes, it was too easy), && the 1.5 mile run in less than 13:51. The officers wanted us to save our energy for the run, so they said we didn't have to go over the req'd amount for push ups or sit ups...don't know if that was bait or not, but..:pimp:

You did your written, already?

Graduated with a finance degree in early December and the pressure is starting to get to me with the whole not working thing. I'm thankful my parents have been able to hold me down but man...|I lowest i've felt

Where are you located? I would think there would at least be a few opportunities out there for a finance major.

Retto Retto Yea I passed my physical and written. Had my interview last Tuesday The physical test was an obstacle course of climbing a 6 ft wall, running about 1/4 mile and dragging a 165 lb dummy 50 feet in 3 minutes. The written was a test that I had was identical to one I had taken before so it was cake.

One dept had a physical test of 10 pushups in a min, 12 situps in a min, 300 meter run in 90 sec, and the 1.5 mile in 18:43. Definitely cake compared to the one you took  but it was more than likely bait that they wanted you to stop at the exact #. They always tell us to go over until time is up.

I'm interested in your progress with it, stay in touch.

jayhood23 jayhood23 Likewise, my man. I'll def. keep you posted, no doubt.

18:43 tho?!??? :wow:  I think my effort to wrap my mind around that is gonna end up being pretty damb futile

I haven't posted much since accepting my internship in Memphis but I've been peeping in this thread here and there and just want to say congrats to those who have recently found work and to those who are having success at their new jobs. I also want to tell everyone who is still looking to keep your head up and keep grinding, always tell yourself that you are less than a month away from finding work (it works). I've been enjoying my time at my internship here in Memphis but I know it will be ending soon (next month) so I'll be back on the job hunt for work back in KCMO. Get connected fellas, use sites like LinkedIn to network and try to get any help that you can to tighten up your resumes. Just wanted to give some encouraging words, goodluck fellas.

Had my phone interview today, it was scheduled at 1-2 so of course they call at 1:45 smh.. And in typical fashion, three people are in the room asking two questions each. I mean thanks for the heads up that this would be a conference call. smh.

I answered all but one question which I didn't have much experience explaining the answer but I felt I held my own. They ended with we will keep in touch. I'm glad I have a job right now because it would suck to end on something like that, if I need a job ASAP.

All I have to do is show up to my job on time and I'm good to go forever. But I don't plan on being here much longer than 4-6 months if I don't get this job.

Funny question during the interview was the first question about working with a diverse staff. She asked what or is there a downside to diversity? Wtf.. Never heard of stupid question like that before. But I guess you have to screen out the weirdos and such.

Hoping you get it, but that diversity question is a weird one. Easy to answer but definitely out there. I mean who is gonna say they have a problem with it especially if they are applying for the job.

Had an interview at a real estate development firm this past Monday for an accounting position. Put forth my best personality, Feel like it went well. Got put on by my friend, should I get in ill be working in the same dept as my boys. That would be sweet.

Glad to see this thread still going with positive vibes as tough as it.

Job I got now is definitely not what I expected and it makes me want to be a Republican (title as a Clerk Typist but work in a call center). It's tough to feel like u don't appreciate your gig but know you are worth more and can't get the opportunity.

To make things tougher, my wife and I are having another baby due in June, our lease is up August so we either move to another place or move out of state (which we want to do) but I can't find a gig in Atlanta though my home girl says people are gettin jobs left and right. Wife is trying to get into Emory's PA program so I feel like it's a good move on top of the lack of opportunities in Pittsburgh.

To all those still lookin, keep strivin and I hope good things come yall way soon.

A job that can get me started in a career. I've spent most of my post-college life working jobs trying to get that one opportunity to no avail. I was set to take the LSAT and go to law school etc etc but then opted against it w/ the market for lawyers being heavily over-saturated. So I started studying for IT certs and am studying to take the Certified Associate in Project Management Cert. (CAPM)

Been looking into entry level IT database, networking, business analyst, even a paralegal position since I have a Paralegal cert already.

Thought I answered it. Entry Lvl IT networking or database, or business analyst. Even IT helpdesk. Those are the positions I've been looking for since I know I don't have on the job exp and I have to start somewhere.
