Jobless and Frustrated NTers check in VOL. WE NOT-WORKIN!!!

Thought I answered it. Entry Lvl IT networking or database, or business analyst. Even IT helpdesk. Those are the positions I've been looking for since I know I don't have on the job exp and I have to start somewhere.
what was your major?

ah, I love history, but I'd imagine it's tough to find a job. I work in clinical researxh and development for a pharmaceutical company and I was interested in similar thing as you. I've been in the industry for about ten years and I love it. I'd definitely recommend looking into that industry, if you haven't already. Pharma is great because the companies has every discipline you can imagine under one roof (finance, chem, it, writing, lawyers, etc). Several of my colleagues have poli sci, history, etc. Degrees too and they made it in without a stem degree. Some fields to consider would be IT (of course), Clinical operations, Clinical Data management, business intelligence. At the end of the day though I still strongly believe that it's all about who you know. The more networking you can do the better. Good luck with your search, sorry if I'm preaching but I think those would be some fields to consider. Again, if you haven't already. And pharma pays GREAT.

I am thinking about using a recruiting service come Monday.

I've been looking for an entry-level Quality Assurance, Business Analyst or Data Analyst position for months with no luck...

Does anyone who have a positive experience dealing with technical recruiters (AeroTek, TEKsystems, etc...) ?

I have never used a recruiter personally, however, we have hired several quality people from recruiters. They usually start as contractors but will almost always get offered a ft position if they are good. Can't hurt though imo. The more you can get your cv out there - the better.

Yea, I noticed a lot of my contacts\friends can only acquire contract-based employment, especially in the tech industry.

Contract-based employment might be the trend in the tech industry for individuals that lack experience.

it definitely is. It's the same in pharma/biotech. But a contract job is still a great thing if you are a solid employee. Then you will more than likely gett offered that fte position.

Been wondering the same thing. Put in my resume w/ TEKsystems before and they get ignored and this was for Helpdesk positions. Been looking into entry level Business Analyst positions too since I'm going for the CAPM cert.

This is the first I've heard speak of CAPM but it looks promising. Definitely a plus on the resume.

I know two project manager but they don't work in Software Development Life Cycles.

From what they told me, they just learned the ins-outs of Primavera. They currently work for State Farm as Project Managers.

Graduated with a finance degree in early December and the pressure is starting to get to me with the whole not working thing. I'm thankful my parents have been able to hold me down but man...|I lowest i've felt

EXACTLY how I feel. Graduated in december with a degree in Communications. Got an unpaid internship with The Source Magazine but funds are running low right now. Got an email from NTNY on Thursday to schedule a phone interview but I keep calling the number and cant get through. Even left a message and all.Hopefully things will pick up soon.

Just go there. Management is notorious for not answering phones.

I was a History major. It's all about your skill set and what you can offer. I've worked in digital media since I've graduated. If there's one skill you should have, you should know how to do some basic coding in HTML, CSS.

Yea, I figured it'd be a good way of getting into project management. It's one thing to say u are willing to work hard and another to show that you are and a cert like that definitely shows you're serious about the profession imo.

I did the code academy course on HTML and CSS too. It was free and it does help to even mention that you are knowledgeable of that form of coding on a resume.

This is the first time I've been unemployed since I was 16 (I'm 22 now).

What does everyone do in their downtime besides applying to jobs/talking to folks?

Learn a skill you don't have and workout. Try to stay on a routine and get up at a decent hour otherwise when you go back to work it'll feel like hell

Finally got hired a couple months ago. Didn't even get through the 3 month probation period.
Then there's this management change because of some disagreements in upper management between some people and they scraped our division.
Just pure bad luck.

Gotta go grind it out again

Oh congrats bro! I hope you're in! What's starting salary in Atlanta?
sorry im late bro been swarmed with things to do with this job but i got the job man!!!!! and they started me at 41k and i will get an increase after the academy and fto so im excited

Good luck looking for a job in Atlanta. I have been trying to get a good gig since January.

Word? My homegirl said they're hiring down there. She got promoted in Macy's and relocated there so I don't know if she truly knows  I'm tryna get down there before my lease is renewed

dathbgboy dathbgboy She is lucky. There isn't any GOOD jobs in the city. You may be able to find something in the outskirts. I have been looking seriously for about a month and I'm a little surprised.

Keep at it.
Took me two years to land the job i wanted.
I emailed alums, friends and cold called people. I had a job but I hated the job i was at. I would set aside a couple of hours on tuesdays and fridays each week to work on the job search. I wouldnt stress out about it and had the attitude that someday I would get and offer.
I had a total of like 9 interviews. Was a runner up in two and finally got 1 offer and took it.

I prayed too.

For the resent grads:
Why not intern first?
See which companies are growing and ask to work for free. If you are smart and hard working theyll see that and may give you a job. I regret not interning more as a college student and after i graduated. You have no kids and are able to stay with friends and families. Some colleges will even give you a stipend.

Feel free to use my Warm-Call letter
PM with success stories...my letter works.

I feel u. What fields are u looking into? I'm applying to low level tech gigs at Georgia Tech and other companies down there. been on ideed heavy. I figured I got 3 months to land a gig down there. I'm willing to sleep on somebody's floor if I get a gig down there.

Finding jobs out of state are tough. It's like, do u get a place first or a gig first

dathbgboy dathbgboy I'm looking for college recruiters or counselor positions. I was in higher ed for about two years. I gotta get back. I start a part time gig but I need that full time to fall through. Indeed and career builder are my go to sites. i would say get a job before you move because you could always stay at a room or hotel. The only way I would move somewhere without a job is if I could live with family or had 6 months of money saved up.
