congrats!
what type of job you land?
Sorry this is so late. I landed a gig as a Parole Officer. Scored a 96 on the Civil Service exam and heard back fairly quickly.

I've said it once in this thread before, but anyone still looking should definitely check their state's website for jobs. Most states have a job board and even an in person career center with free resources (resume writing, interview practice, etc).

got an interview with Fedex for a part time package handler tomorrow. Job is in South San Francisco and I'll be commuting from San Jose. They work you anywhere from 10-30 hours a week. Gonna let them know I need at the very least 20 or I'll barely break even.

Man, get into CNC Machining like I told you.
:nerd:
bruh, is it worth it? I've been seriously considering going to the local cc and take some classes for it.

I think it's worth it if you enjoy working with your hands and using your brain at the same time. You can pretty much get a job anywhere in the country. It's very easy as well to get a job. Some companies will even train you/pay for your school. You can take the classes for free also, looking into BOG waiver at your local CC.

Nice to hear some of the success stories in here.
I'm currently working 2 jobs(One at a bank and another in property preservation for foreclosed homes) and the pay and all that is fine but I am just tired of working 2 jobs but I need it to cover all my bills and be comfortable. I guess what I'm looking for is just one job that can pay equal as both jobs now. My typical day is the bank starting around 9:30-11am(depending on schedule, I usually have a weekday off but work Saturday mornings) till about 4:15pm and then my other job(M-F) from 5pm-1am. I work around 65-70hrs/week and get paid comfortably but I feel it's too much and that I should have more free time. I've had 2 jobs for around a year and some change now.

My plan is to stick it out an see if a promotion is in store for either jobs and just take it so I can relax and enjoy life a little more. Do you guys suggest I do that or look for a complete new job that pays equal or more?

22 in Ohio if that matters

If you don't mid me asking, what do you do at the bank? And how much are you getting paid for that?

Just wondering, where the hell do you live that it was a 4 hour commute? Rockland, maybe Woodbury area? 2 hours to the city and 2 hours back...

Live in Beacon, NY. 90 minutes with Metro North to Grand Central and about 20-30 minutes with the subway from GC to Wall St plus the walk to my office for a total of two hours each way.

I always slept in the morning and sometimes during the way home at night. The commute never bothered me but I realized I wasn't gonna do this the rest of my life so it was a good time for a new job with a much shorter commute.

man, I need a job for anywhere from a couple of months to a year. Is there any entry level positions to get into? If so do you know what the starting pay would be?

For an entry level without any experience 12-15 an hour and can go up after your three months review, it'll depend on the company you work. They'll start you off as an machine operator; teaching you the basics. It is best if you take a couple of cnc machining classes to have the general concept of machining. There's lots of machine shops in SJ and Santa Clara. Go on CL > Manufacturing and type in CNC. If you see the company's name on the ad you can turn in your resume regardless of their job posting requirements for the position. Manufacturing companies always have room for entry level people with or without experience.

I'm a teller at a national bank chain. Basically just doing customer transactions and trying to get them to sign up for credit cards/accounts/loans and what not. Part time 20hrs so only around 13k/year with bonuses. Just started their last month coming from my part time retail job

if you were to get a promotion, you would be either a Customer Service Rep or a Personal Banker. I would check on a daily basis to see if your bank has any opening for those positions and just apply rather than wait for a promotion. I think the pay for those positions would be around 32-35k for CSR and 34-40k for a PB.

Well yea by promotion I meant apply for it myself. Usually how companies do things to move up nowadays. But alright. If those are the salary ranges then I'll be good with that. I had an interview for an in store banker before I got my current job. I was basically a shoe in until I told them my schedule. They wanted my availability to be morning till 7 but I still wanted to keep my other job that starts at 5 so I declined the job and found this teller job part time so I can keep both. Guess I'll explore more options

Just graduated from Rutgers University with a BA in economics and I was wondering what types of careers I should look into to start out. A bunch of my friends are financial analysts so I'm kind of swayed into that direction at the moment. I keep getting calls from sales position that I definitely do not want to be a part of at all. Thanks  in advance.
Bro look into Mercedes Benz USA. They love recruiting from Rutgers for some reason. Probably because their headquarters are in NJ not too far away.

But anywho, I work at an authorized MB Dealer and I hope to someday land a corporate job with MB. Check out MB USA's website and click on the career tab.

They have post grad internship programs available where you basically just work for the company to get your feet wet and if they like you, they hire you.

Congrats on that BA from Rutgers my man

any tips for entry level business analyst/project management roles?
I know in pharma, which is where i work, they are out there.  The thing with this industry is that the entry level jobs are coveted and really tough to get.  You really need to network (there may be events in your area), touch base with college prof's (they usually have great connections), and just apply to lots of jobs (whether you meet the requirements or not - dont apply for high up positions, obviously, but maybe like 1-3 year experience jobs).  When i first got in to pharma it was tough, but i got a great lead from a college prof i kept in touch with.  It didnt get me the job, but it got me an interview (which is the hardest part), and then i did the rest.

If you guys don't care about relocating and labor check out Nucor, it's steel production and they treat their employees great. The hiring process is long but if you get on its beyond worth it. Sometimes they have entry level positions open so you'd have to check out the site often.
