Jobless and Frustrated NTers check in VOL. WE NOT-WORKIN!!!

Got my job offer rescinded due to a knee injury that caused me to miss my start date. It sucks, but I'll live.

What's going on bro? I have to get back in communication with you in regards to some extra sources. Seems like I'll be on the hunt once again lol. Just been busy healing this knee and with all the hospital visits for therapy.

Yeah I let them know about it, but they couldn't wait much longer. The position needed to be filled immediately. They will consider me for another position in the future, but I don't want to deal with a company like that. They couldn't even hold onto the position for even a week and hear out the prognosis.
Anyways, I'll get back on the grind once my a body allows it.

Went to a job fair to try and drop my name to a few companies I've applied to before. They seen my resume and said the reason I'm not getting a look is because I have 0 exp. I'm trying to get into Project Management and Database Management. Said I should start from the bottom bottom and work my way up though the bottom positions will give me no exp :smh:

I start my new position tomorrow but it's kind of bittersweet. Even with all my accomplishment so far they didn't want to negotiate wages. The manager just got fired too so there's extra pressure on me. :rolleyes

Damn no negotiation hrm.. cheap bastards, same thing happened to me when I first started at my new job. The salary was firm based on Union contract but that was lie. They started me high but never offer opportunity for increased salary besides yearly step increases.

Most companies should negotiate. I got a large increase for having my degree off top. Actually an employee I work with has been here 27 years and I started at his salary or really close, same pay grade.. lol but kinda sad.

I ready to move on after a year and a half. The job market still sucks imo. Maybe I'm in the wrong field but I only see a few jobs a week if that I'm my field. Lots of government gigs that I just delete, waste of time. Government, state and city jobs man Smfh, horribly slow and full of nepotism.

Congrats to all that have found work it's crazy out here. Good luck to those looking, and never give up!

Nothing  just find a job that will allow u to do analyst work. Generating reports, etc. It's almost like a step or so above a CSR position

Today my boss at my internship asked me if I've been thinking about possibly starting my career with the company. Ironically, I was going to speak to him today about any possible full-time opportunities at this location or at any others (he's mentioned that openings are often available at other mills) considering that they hired two people already. Well, one of the two people that started last week quit last night  so me and my boss have planned to talk about the position on thursday. Crazy because many other employees that have walked by my office during my time here have asked me if I was staying or if I wanted to stay. I'm not going to put all my eggs in one basket but I think this is a sign, wish me luck/pray for me bros and keep your heads up.

after 2 years of searching and a year and 7 months of not having any income, I finally landed a job working as a Youth Care Worker, it's temporary (2-4 months) but having that on my resume will open a lot of doors I hope.

I know you guys get tired of hearing keep pushing but really, just keep pushing. you never know, I applied for this job even though I met none of the requirements/experience aside from speaking Spanish. apply to those jobs, you might get lucky and land an interview and kill it. when I went for my interview, it was like 20 people getting interviewed by 5 different hiring managers, cocky people telling me about all their credentials and experience, dressed like a million bucks and this and that. Don't get shy, lose hope, intimidated or discouraged, go at them like hell. I went in with no dambs, resume with only warehouse experience, my Associate's, button up flannel shirt, chinos and some burgundy SB's. hiring manager told me no, she then suggested I volunteer to gain experience which was when I said that no one wanted to give me a chance. show them you have heart, a lot of people let their resume do the talking, let your heart do the talking. lady heard me out and offered me the position on the spot, this was last Saturday and I started training today and I officially signed all the paperwork after clearing my background check. don't get angry or lose out on hope, trust me, I applied at maybe 100+ jobs, had maybe 10  interviews since last March with mostly all of them telling me no on the spot. went from working at the 99cent store making $8.35 an hour to this. no way am I trying to brag, just trying to show you guys can do it if I can, keep your heads up and don't give up. some of you have been unemployed longer, just keep at it, something will come when you least expect it, my brother went a couple years with nothing, then a job he doesn't remember applying to 6-8 months prior called him, just keep applying.

good luck to all of you, sending you all some positive vibes. best wishes on your hunt and to some of you best wishes on you climbing up that ladder.

we will make it bros.

good luck!!!

In the same field as you two. I actually took a class on Project Management using the PMBok so I have enough hours and the understanding to take the CAPM but I've been slacking :smh:. While I like PM, I'm digging data analysis more at this point. Have you two looked at Market Analyst positions? The position required SQL & basic knowledge of statistics. I applied & HR emailed me interested but they were in need of an immediate hire & i wouldn't be available until mid August. Also Johns Hopkins is offering data science classes via Coursera right now. R Programming, getting & cleaning data, Statistical inference, regression, etc. Check them out if you're into analysis. Also check hospitals listings.

Been working at a small web development company as a graduate developer for nearly a month now.

Problem is due to it being a small company, there really isn't much work for me. I'm sitting around all day trying to learn new programming languages and develop my skills, but this is frustrating not getting any real practical experience.

Any advice?

Not sure what you're level of tech skill is, but IT is always growing. Earning a few certs can get you easily placed into a tech company.

After being laid off a few months ago, I just started a temp role (2 months) at a firm run by my former boss. Chances of a full-time offer are very slim.

For those here who did temp work, were you also interviewing around? How did you manage that?

Thanks, fam. Keep pushing.

YES! I got the idgaf attitude at my last gig that was temporary after things got slow and I had to sit at home, no pay for 3 weeks. Started looking hard until I got to the new, permanent gig. Take tme as you need with temp gig. Remember, you're a temp because the company doesn't want to invest in you as a permanent employee, so treat them as such.

Also I got word that Cox Communications is looking for a bunch of referrals for call center positions in several locations (Phoenix, Wichita, Vegas, Oklahoma City, Baton Rouge and Omaha). Sales (LV, OKC), Retention (LV, OKC, PHX), Account Services (PHX, Wich) and Tech Support (BR, Omaha, PHX, Wich) postions. Feel free to PM me for more info.

Keep your head up Nters. I've been in the boat before and it's a hard feeling. Stressed and depression hitting all at once. I remember having sleepless nights wondering when I'll ever get a consideration anywhere.

It's all about timing and going with the gut.

Good luck,

Yup, never get comfortable. If it's a temp position, they should expect you to plan ahead and be ready to move. They can't expect you not to be looking for new jobs while still employed.

Just got off the phone with the Nordstrom training manager, they're going to check my references and do a background check, I'll know more by next week, wish me luck bros

I've only been out the game for 2 months but my pockets are hurting right now, I've been doing uncontracted work for a plumbing company this week so I'm expecting $250-$300 tomorrow if I'm lucky since they only gave me 2 houses to work on

I used to be in that field. Tough work, but yes it will open doors and show future employers that you're resilient and able to deal with a lot. Best of luck my dude.

What's y'all's take on the whole 'some job (even if minimum wage) is better than no job' stance?

I mean, I kinda understand it...but, reason I ask is cause moms criticized me just now, thinking I'm 'not being as diligent as I could be' (like...how the **** would YOU know, when you're either sleep or at work your damb self when I'm putting my apps in? )

The whole criticism stemmed from me not having gone on the county website to look for jobs (oh, I'm sorry...I'm too ******* busy applying to the 20 jobs that I bookmarked the day before, as always  )

Now that I got the vent outta the way, have I possibly not been humble enough due to turning down a 20 hr/wk, minimum wage dollar store job a couple months ago? (She sure made that seem like the greatest job in the world during her off-base judgment)

Or, should I continue to maintain my standards? (Honestly, all I want is double digit pay, reasonable distance && at least 30 hrs/wk...not much to ask)

My bad for the rant/long read, frustration's just starting to set in...what say y'all?
