Jobless and Frustrated NTers check in VOL. WE NOT-WORKIN!!!

How difficult is it to get a job as an out of state applicant? Tips? Graduated in May with 2 Master degrees in Counseling and trying to move from NY to GA, TX, etc. Struggle is getting real |I

I tried to get a gig when I was in NYC in Miami/Orlando, it's hard as ****. You got 2 degrees but if you don't have experience and looking for entry level... it's a long shot.

Assuming you're going for big cities like Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, etc. they got plenty of qualified people already living there so why care about you, who is thousands of miles away?

It seems like these career relocation things either happen to people in HIGHLY specialized fields or people with a lot of experience.

The only thing you can do other than move is to put an out of state address on your resume. If you dont have family or friends, just pick a random one lol

I used my girls address and just made something up when people called me about why I was in NY but you can Skype but you will at some point need to fly out there for an interview if you want them to think you live there.

Also, forget about relocation money in this day and age but anything is possible.

Wish I could tell you something better but this is from past (and present) experience, getting a job out of state is a pain in the *** and a half :frown:

You are right about places already having qualified places but, if you are looking to work OIL&GAS or Medical Houston is hiring entry level positions, but kids are coming with jobs secured already. Seems big oil is recruiting at colleges.

Hopefully I can get this internship in the IT field. It's unpaid, but idc, do well enough it translates to a full time position

I got this part-time job in my school's Business Affairs office where I basically have consultations with students that come in asking for help with creating a budget, developing credit, and different savings/CD options.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure exactly what post-graduation jobs this work experience would relate to, it's pretty broad. I have some idea but I'm not sure exactly since right now I'm only helping students..Any help NT?

It's not a work study or student job, they actually interviewed people outside of the university for the position also, so the pay is pretty decent for PT work.

The way it's looking now ima have to **** around and walk

No buses or friends to give a ride?

I walked to an interview before. Had to take a book bag w/clothes and change/wash up in the bathroom beforehand. Couldn't stop sweating. Landed the job but was self-conscious through the whole interview.

For my NYC folks, the sanitation exam is about to open for the first time in seven years.

Times are hard foreal

Best idea now is to ask my homie to borrow his bike so I can get there

This guy is speaking 100% truth. I stopped doing this though because it was getting crazy expensive, but I want a job upstate more than anything. I just started using my real address and have recently gotten a few bites. They all start with the same thing "There will be no relocation" but really what do I care, I'm using an address for somewhere that I know I'll be able to stay at for a bit.
Sometimes you gotta spend money to make money brotha, I've been there.
