So, when I left Home Depot last December, I never thought I'd have a chance at working there again given how I quit, nor did I really care either...after not being on the schedule for 3 months && coming in whenever I felt like it, && then being told I couldn't (with very little change in my schedule, too) I was beyond fed up && it boiled over eventually.

Funny how things work out, because my current job is cool, working security for events in the DC area (baseball, football, basketball, concerts, etc) but was kinda looking for a second job that's closer to me && that I could work on a primary basis, being that Metro kinda eats at a brotha's cheese before long.

And now I sit here, getting ready to go into this Home Depot which is about 10 mins from me (the previous one I worked at was a solid 30 away) so I can finish my drug screening. Once this is done, I should be starting sometime in the next few days, maybe Saturday. :pimp:

I guess the moral of this story is to not leave any application that you guys may contemplate filling out undone. Take a shot in the dark, you never know...I truthfully had no expectations that I'd even be considered for this spot, let alone actually get it.

Not gonna plateau, still in here with y'all looking for something better...but hopefully my latest developments inspire y'all a bit more to keep pushing. :smokin :smokin

I'm going back to school. No choice. Been trying to get into IT and Project Management but can't. They want so much experience and education and deny anybody who isn't the ideal candidate. I've applied to so many jobs I've lost count. No opportunities here and can't afford to move. Now I have to figure out how to pay for these prereqs and the GRE and then school :smh:

None of you guys never thought of joining the military? I did 6 years. Now I never have to worry about money, took the proper steps when I was in to atleast live decent when I got out.

This is my course of action, Air Force to be specific. In the very early stages tho, haven't even taken the ASVAB yet. Kinda have my plan mapped out from there, although the whole ISIS thing has me kinda iffy about joining.

Thought about it

I think I'd do it if my plans I have originally didnt work out

Did you travel a lot and where if you did ?

And is it worth it in the end?

How many times have you been home since you've joined?

Went to many places while I was in, you name it I've been there or at least in the region.

It was very worth it in the end. My undergrad was paid for and I still have money left over to get my Graduate Degree. My daughters education will be free at any Texas state school. I messed my knees and back up while I was in so I now get $3k a month till I die. I can't play ball like I used to and sometimes I get back spasms at night but my medical attention is free. Since I'm a disabled vet with a degree now, federal employment is guaranteed.

You get 30 days vacation a year. I rarely came home, only because I'm from Houston and I was stationed in either San Diego or Ventura County California. My life was a vacation. We worked hard but we partied harder. Work 8 hours and go hangout the beach, Sunset/Hollywood Blvd, house parties on a Tuesday, Tijuana, chasing women at SDSU, Gaslamp Clubbing and hanging out with daughters of porn directors was the most. Going home was not as fun, as the fun I could cook up in Cali. I was stationed in VA as well and was always in either in the NYC or DMV area.

It's really what you make of it. I took (or at least tried) advantage of every opportunity I could. I joined expecting nothing but the absolute worse and was always pleasantly surprised cause of my 6 years, I can count on 1 hand the times they meet my expectations. I would have stayed in, but i was getting older and knew I could not raise a family like that.

Congrats to the successes above.

Want to get NT's thoughts on this. I'm currently unemployed after being laid off from my first job straight out of college.

I've had 2 meetings with this one manager who runs the NYC office and he asked if I was willing to do an internship just for a few months. This would be my dream career and I can afford an internship (live near NYC). This is the only lead I have so far, but I'm still applying/talking to people. We've been going back and forth for 2 weeks, he just asked me for previous work references, and needs to confirm it with the Philly team.

I know work references are required, but is this typical for an unpaid temporary internship?

Yes, I'm not worried about work references. Maybe unemployment is just making me anxious/impatient, especially if this is only a 2-3 month unpaid gig.

Thanks, fam.

Haha, this is the clincher: this company is so small that they don't give full-time offers to interns. The manager asked me if this was alright. I had no other choice as beggars =/= choosers.
