Jobless and Frustrated NTers check in VOL. WE NOT-WORKIN!!!

If anyone is interested in working for Santa Clara County in the bay area, we have a lot openings in different agencies within the county. From communications dispatcher, social worker, nursing, and internships, etc...

Here's the link: http://www.sccgov.org/sites/esa/employment/Pages/oco.aspx

When i first applied in 2008 the job postings were very bare due to the hiring freezes, with the economy on the upswing a lot more positions are opening up.

Anyone here have experience with door to door sales jobs. I have an interview coming up for an account executive position at an energy company. They basically go from business to business to get clients to sign up for their energy plan. Pay is 100% commission. I've been searching for full time employment for about a year now and this is looking like a last resort for me.

Where do you live if you dont mind me asking?

If your open to sales jobs depending on where you are there are better jobs then d2d sales

most profitable sales jobs are inside sales, or on the enterprise side.

If you lack experience but want some look for a Sales Dev role and a company that will invest in your development.

Im currently in NYC.

I graduated last december and landed an internship at a popular Hip Hop magazine/media company doing marketing/ad sales/event planning. Long story short there were no opportunities to advance within that organization and I decided to leave in October. Been looking for full time work ever since and have only been getting call backs for jobs that involve door to door selling which isn't something I can see myself doing. It sucks because I know what I want in terms of my future, just not finding any opportunities.

If you are open to doing sales I recommend you look for inside sales positions and sales development roles or SDR's, maybe even roles in Support or Customer Service

like the man above said you just want to get your foot in the door so that you can start learning. Your first job you want to be a sponge take in as much as you can learn from mistakes and your triumphs.

Many employers ask Why should I hire you, and it is your job to respond by saying that I have a proven track record of making positive change that has benefited the company I worked for and that I am committed to continued growth and learning.

Is there a field you are looking to penetrate specifically? or what you studied in school?

I graduated with a degree in communications. I really would like to land a position as an Account Executive for a media company for a while until I can afford to go back to school for business information technology management.

AE for a media company? Like what companies? Tough to come off the street s with no experience to just become an AE ( no shade thrown) hit me with a pm if you wanna take this off the thread

I suggest you get into an SDR role so you can learn the groundwork to help grow into that. And if an employer is gonna just throw you to the wolves without helping you to just groom your skills they ain't got your best interest at heart.

Sink or swim mentality is rough on folks new and in the game.

What is your ultimate end goal if you are looking to pursue you MBA? Make sure you truly know and understand what this is. To many people are in a rush to go back to school to get there Masters only to find themselves back in the same situation they were in with there undergrad degree.

Our world and evironment is changing, the MBA doesn't mean as much as it did 5-10 years ago. Employers and Managers want people with experience more so then someone with an advanced degree nowadays.

Short story of this is Have a Goal with a plan mapped out before you do anything, and flourish my man.

Ive been an AE for 3+ years now at the same company I still learn something new each day

How To Avoid Looking Desperate At Your Interview

The job search process can be difficult, to say the least, at times – you’ve got the lists and lists of jobs to go through, your CV to perfect, and then you’ve got the interview technique to master. That said; by the time you actually get to the job interview stage, it can be quite difficult to hide your desperation to finally bag yourself a job.

But it’s really important to not let the desperation get the better of you in an interview situation because an employer may actually be put off, and we don’t want that! With that in mind we’ve come up with some top tips to help you avoid looking desperate at your interview.

Question if a company gives you a followup email asking questions about when can you start work, why are you leaving your current job, salary history, behavioral situation, etc.

Would it be a good option to tell them that you already have residents in the DC area and could swap the minimal classes that you are now taking at your University to online or just tell them my graduation date is when I will be able to work?

Waiting 48 hours to send the thank you email seems excessive but the rest of that is good stuff.

Stuck between two job offers. I graduate officially in May but I was able to get a couple offers already.

One is a public sector consulting job, $40K pay, they cover an employees grad school tuition. Fast paced, conservative environment.

Second is wealth management, $55K base pay, + commission. No tuition reimbursement. Smaller firm, slow paced, conservative environment, and sales/relationship driven.

I know 55 > 40, but I want to get a masters degree in finance soon and the first job will pay for it.

Id go with the 55k you will have to pay for grad school but you will already making the 55k,the same bump you would get from the 40k.

Lets say you go with the $40k, they pay tuition, you graduate, but they are not willing to promote you. Now you are looking for who will, but the 40K wont give you a good recommendation.

Take the 55K, pay for your own school now you worth 55k+ and not 40k+.

With the 40k you are looking at 55k anyway after graduation.

This is dependent the cost of grad school.

what do you want to do with your ms finance? i have a few friends in PWM and one thing you gotta consider is that PWM doesn't really have much transferable skills to other areas and can be a dull job. And just because they start you higher, it doesn't mean it will grow faster, either. How much do they cover for tuition? I was looking into getting my MS in Finance and it was going run me about 40k :x and 9-12 months full-time without being able to work a job on the side.

I was thinking corporate finance. The public consulting job IMO has more transferable skills based on what was in my job description, just less pay. There is a financial aspect to it. I feel like I could make a bigger impact with that job. They cover up to 20K per academic year.
I applied to SMU and got in, but the tuition is 40K. (I think $41,900 exactly )

The PWM job is a sales job pretty much, and it'll be hard to build a book at 22.

then it's easy, take the consulting gig. at this stages of your career, don't look at the total comp. i think you will be placed in a better situation with it and that tuition reimbursement easily makes up for the difference in comp.

good looking out rrlegend, where you working at now? u still out in S.A.?

I'm at sanjel those big companies , schlumbger, Halliburton , weather ford , and baker either don't pay worth a damn or let the stock run the company , so I switched it up with a small private Canadian company . I make what I used to make in a month in 2 weeks now so it was worth it . I'm still based out of San antonio but I work a 2 week on one week off schedule so I can pretty much live where ever I want to as long as I make callout for the week . Also I don't spend any money out in the field . We get catered every day and We have a gym. Not gonna lie when the oil prices pick back up I'm thinking about going to work in Williston for a few months or Colorado them dudes over there are bringing in 130 a year starting out still , and if I get transferred there with this company I know I'll be hitting 180-200 of i do a whole year

Well my internship is ending in about 4 months so I'm back looking for safety jobs. Hopefully it's a little easier this time around since I have more experience.
