Jobless and Frustrated NTers check in VOL. WE NOT-WORKIN!!!

Bros anyone in here do resumes ?

I have an "ethnic" name
I love my name but the people from hiring place might not

anyway thinking about changing it and going with DJ or ARI
i guess which one looks more pleasing?

Just go with your real name..they won't care..if u get a job offer they will b like why the name change?

For those who are trying to find a job in another state do you put the phrase "Willing to Relocate" anywhere on your resume, such as the summary or next to your current address? I dont have a summary section on my resume but would make one just to add a blurb about my willingness to relocate.

Yeah, man. My friend who is highly educated and qualified in her field did that. She has a non common name, both first and last. She changed her first name to her initials and said she got a lot more call backs from it. I was dumbfound when I heard that such minuscule details make a diff nowadays.

I put it on my application not my resume
Same here they can add one and one. If you're applying for a job in NY and see you have a Cali address they'll know you want to relocate.

Tip to the general: don't use some fancy template for a resume. They take up too much space. You want to keep your resume at 1 page if possible. I acknowledge its not possible when you're more seasoned but never beyond 2 pages. Keep it simple and precise when it comes to formatting a resume.

GamerG: how old are you? Always thought you were a pre teen since all you talk about is shrink wrapping your sneakers so the soles don't yellow. Just curious.

newmj also hit it in the head with the Asian train of thought. I'm Asian myself. Will have to revisit the post later. Too long to post without thinking it through

Ps anyone here ever use a job agency? Would love to hear comments and thoughts.

Reason I asked is because someone in HR told me to do so. In his words as obvious as it may seem that you're willing to relocate, its not obvious so you have to make it so and suggested that I drop it on my resume and cover letter.

I may do this since I'm looking for jobs in DC

my sister just hooked me up with a part-time gig at her spot and it's cool but i think i'm gonna have to get something else on top of that so I can move out..

Im definitely going to try the changing my first name on my resume to my initial. I have a very "ethnic" name and I know for a fact that it prevents me from getting looks.

just got hired for the summer at the post office, its 18 an hr only downfall is that t starts at 530 am. gonna keep it until i can find something better

Keep searching brothers something will hit sooner or later

Stressing about this job I interviewed for bros.

I graduate in May but I started working this public consulting job full-time a few months ago. Salary is ok.

Last Thursday, I interviewed for another job that PAID much better (60K~) I emailed the senior recruiter in HR that set up my interview and asked if there was any update regarding my interview. She responded:

"Hello USA,

Thank you very much for interviewing for the XXXX position. I know the managers were very impressed with you and your experience and hoping for a decision on Friday or Monday.

Please advise of any questions and appreciate you and your interest in XXXXX."

I'm anxious as hell. This job would really help my career. Not sure if I got it even though I nailed the interview.

Sounds like they like you. They're probably waiting to interview other candidates before making a final decision.

had an interview yesterday and theyre asking for references today. i really hope i get a good offer since its in the field i want and its in nyc like i wanted.

From New Zealand, but our company has offices in Australia and New York. I expressed keen interest in relocating to New York, my boss (who lives in New York) was all behind the idea of me relocating. A job offer makes it so much easier to get a visa in the States, but haven't heard back from him in 2 weeks regarding this

Sigh, moving to the States has been my dream since I was 5. Explored so many pathways to achieve this, and really disappointed to see this opportunity slip away again :frown:

Sorry for the rant

Nah I didn't want to bother him as I know it's a complicated and annoying process for him as well, but I think I will follow up if he doesn't mention it next week.

I've thought about just applying for a ton of US Business Analyst/Intelligence jobs online, but I assume it's close to impossible to be noticed without a valid working visa.

Thanks for the encouragement though, not going to give up till I make it there.
