Jobless and Frustrated NTers check in VOL. WE NOT-WORKIN!!!

Also... Nordstrom has no return policy. As long as u have proof of purchase we have to take it back. So whatever I sold and is returned gets deducted from my net sells. So you battling 1) customers not purchasing a lot during slow seasons 2) returns 3) no hourly

**** don't make sense to me at times why I'm still here

that sounds like a garbage job bro, id try to get in with one of the hotels there.

Bros,

I have a 2nd interview with a company I had a panel interview with over a month ago and I'm not really sure what to expect. During the first interview it seemed like they asked me pretty much everything they were interested in and I shared everything with them that I possibly could. They're fully aware of my lack of experience in my field (only completed an internship, just started another one) and they know this would be my first full time position in my field. The first interview went great and I even found out that they are also alumni of my alma mater but I've never had a 2nd face-to-face/Panel interview (only had phone then FTF interviews) before.

I have an interview with a company for my field Friday. It's a full time gig and I have one more semenster left in school but they know that. The pay is pretty good and the job seems cool I'm praying I get it.

Need some input bros. Kind of a long read...

So an external recruiter(whom I've been in contact with before) set me up with an interview about 2 weeks ago. The following week after the interview I find out the "business manager/controller" lady(whom I suppose acts as the HR manager) is contacting my references. The recruiter is telling me it's a good sign and usually if the references are good then a job offer should follow. It's nearing 2 weeks since she has contacted my references but the recruiter is telling me I am still in strong consideration for the position. He also is telling me that the "HR" lady has not been in the office lately so the company cannot proceed any further until she gets back. He also tells me that I am the only candidate on their end that's being considered(don't know if that's true tbh).

I spoke with my old manager and he said he put in a good word for me and I can't seem to think of a reason for any bad input from my references. What do you guys make of this situation and does it usually take this long to propose an offer? Or is the recruiter just being a recruiter and trying to keep me interested for his sake? I just feel like something iffy is going on or I'm probably just not going to get the job :smh:

I really want this job, its a smaller engineering firm and I'd be exposed to a lot of different aspects that would help me down the line.

TIA

I'm actually in a similar situation currently so I understand being a little uptight.

I wouldn't sweat it. Anything happening behind the scenes is beyond your control at this point. I will say that you should still pursue other opportunities just in case. There could be things going on within the company that have delayed the process a bit, but worrying about it won't do you any good. You've put yourself in a good position and that's all you can do.

Hope it comes through for you man. Don't get discouraged.

thanks fam.

It's understandable that they might take a while since they're a small firm. I'm kind of iffy on the recruiter that's all. He did land me the interview and has kept in touch with me, so i can't complain about that. I'm also still being considered for 2 other jobs, but I'd really like to land this gig(smaller firm, great people, commute isn't bad either). I met with basically all their senior managers and they seemed to like me. I'm hoping!

I hope everything works out for you as well. Thanks for the advice

Feels like my job has been cleaning house lately, thinking I might be a part of the next cuts smh

Need to find something closer to home anyway. The commute is 2 & a half hours each way (3 buses + walk)

See the thread hasn't been active but hopefully someone can assist me. I have a Degree in Bus. Admin focus of Bus. Mgmt but I do not know what other jobs to apply for. I'm trying to improve from my current situation because it was not what I expected. But I am not sure if I really qualify by just looking at the qualifications of different jobs out there. What jobs do Bus. Mgmt graduates apply to? any insight would be appreciated.

I'm kinda in the same boat. Try using LinkedIn...My boy who's a recruiter told me that most employers use that site. Depending on your location; Try JobGiraffe or GradStaff

What's your resume look like? Internships/experience?

What are you aiming for? What interests you?

------

Side-note: I get networking emails from LinkedIn folks/college kids and when I ask them why they're reaching out to me/what their story is, they stumble. It's incredibly irritating and while I try to help where I can, I think it's a huge waste of time when a) they have no specific goal/interests and b) they don't come correct. And I speak from experience as I had to learn this the hard way.

So before you put yourself out there:

1.) Research the person / what they do / what you're interested to talk to them about / how it relates to you.

2.) Ask pointed, specific questions.

3.) Be humble and don't expect anything.

definitely follow up. I was able to land my gig bc I followed up multiple times and sent thank you's to all the managers I interviewed with.

this right here
Follow up with both. I've never been shy about following up with companies.

I was hesitant at first to follow up after the first time, but I did so in the most polite way I could without being too pesky. Good luck in your search fam!

keep applying guys, I started my new job at a pharmacy this week. I honestly thought I bombed the interview but they offered me a position. :smokin

I don't think my interview went well today...the guy asked some really crazy questions...questions like how big is the program at your school and blah blah I'm like

How is that a crazy question?

He probably wanted to see if you can articulate why you chose your school, what you know about it, etc.

It just threw me off guard then he was like well how do other companies come to your school and recruit. He didn't really go over any aspects of the job description or anything. It was my first interview for a post college job so it was different I guess

When I interviewed for the job I just landed, I had one of the senior managers grill me with a few questions and "blemishes" on my resume, I thought there was no way I had left a good impression on her (from her demeanor and tone of voice, it just seemed like she wasn't all that impressed with my answers). I was honest with my answers and did my best to provide a response that was to the best of my knowledge. Bottom line is, you won't know every response to every question bc they will throw curve balls at times and also ask you to elaborate on things that you are unprepared for. Best thing to do is after the interview, jot down some notes and key points from your interview (questions they asked you and the ones you didn't know how to answer) so next time you'll be better prepared.

I hated when people used to tell me, "Just think of each interview as practice and improving your interview skills", I wanted a job so bad but I didn't want to put in the extra effort to learn the "skills" for a succesful interview(heck I still probably don't interview as well as most) but I was able to learn from my mistakes each time and my responses became more elaborate with better clarity.

Sorry for the long post just thought I'd drop my 0.02. Best of luck
