Black-only schools proposed in Toronto

I am pretty sure there are other ways of improving and preventing the number of young black males dropping out of school... Anyways this idea is pretty extremeand IMO pretty ridiculous... Isolating a select group from everyone else is not going to help them but instead give them a false sense of reality...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it didn't say that black kids had to go to that school. If so, what is the difference between that, and historically blackcolleges?

Seattle has had the African American Academy for a couple decades now and it is a complete waste. I find it incredibly ironic that the school district tried touse race as a determining factor in school assignments, yet they have an African American Academy and an Indian Heritage School, and both schools are the worstin performance in the district. What a joke the Seattle School District is.

HBCUs were established during a period of racial oppression at the judicial level. its 2013 now...

i think this is a bad idea. id like to understand the historical reasoning behind why blacks are failing in schools at such a rate in toronto. i get it with the U.S. but with canada...:nerd:

How do you get it with the US but not Canada?

Its not like theyre on the other side of the planet. Parts of Toronto look like a lot of inner cities in America

How can separation produce praise?  I don't understand it.   Every person doesn't learn at the same rate/pace.  I feel that it's laziness of the school systems for not wanting to spend more time and money with the students, in order to make a difference.  But that's just my opinion.

It's pitched as something that'll benefit black youth and exclude whites and others but that's not the real agenda. This aint racist it's just plain stupid and *** backwards. I won't be fooled.
i can understand both sides...but they shouldn't have to seperate the kids to lower the drop out rate...why can't they just hire more black teachers w/ in the system they have now...
That would probably get a similar argument and a bigger uproar reaction from teachers.

Dudes in here typing well thought out responses.

Welcome to 2007 folks.
