:::OFFICIAL SNEAKER CARE/MAINTENANCE POST::: (It's back!)

@caste  does the leather seem rough at the scuff? instead of going straight for harmful chemical like nail polish, acetone, rubbing alcohol etc. sometimes first thing to try is just some good old soap, clean cloth, and a little elbow grease.

@FrankW Oh right i forgot to mention I already tried getting rid of it with a disinfecting wipe. And the leather does not feel rough it feels exactly the same as the area around it (the white areas).

get some clean cloth and make sure they are very soapy and work your thumb and nail behind the cloth on the scuffed area to see if they lift.

if not, get some GOO GONE. put them on a clean cloth. work your thumb over the scuffed area and lightly use your nails behind the cloth. and then use a clean cloth with water and soap to clean the goo gone off. do not let the goo gone sit directly on any surface.

i had to clean the inside collar of my XX2 PE which was heavily scuffed the same way.

the disinfecting wipes are the same thing as rubbing alcohol btw. they don't have any soap/detergent in them.

will do, any suggestions on where to get goo gone

Should I buy a paint brush set while getting the angelus flat black paint? Will the 4 brush set come with a small enough brus for the A I R on the back of the IIIs??

So I tried to clean up my wolf greys and this is what they look like right now. Is there a chance to save them?

yeah, search the thread. bunch of people were extolling the virtues of leather milk or something a little while back. looked like they got some pretty good results

How can I fix this squeaking/rubbing noise on my retro 3 true blues? It's not under the sole - it's right at the tongue. Towards the middle. When I walk and bend my foot it starts to squeak/make a rubbing noise. Like when my foot pushes up on the tongue I can hear it

I recently bought this pair of air jordan 5's on ebay. There is a marking on it that I knew about before purchasing, but I thought it was merely a scuff. However, I tried nail polish remover, rubbing alcohol and even acetone, but it does not budge AT ALL. It gets dark when I rub the liquids on them, but after a couple minutes it just returns to its original state. What the hell is this mark and how do I get rid of it besides repainting?
It looks like the white finish on the leather has been scuffed off...I dont see any other solution but to repaint it... I did it to the bull's 6 I have and it matched perfectly fine with the surronding leather.

Want to start restoring some of my shoes and I have a few questions that hopefully some of you can answer.

Is creating retr0brite a lot cheaper than buying pre-made versions? Looks like I have to spend around $20-25 for all the materials. Also, where is a common place to buy the 10-15% hydrogen peroxide needed? Would "Food Grade" hydrogen peroxide work?

I understand that retr0brite can be pretty much used on many parts of a shoe (rubber, plastic, soles, etc.), can "saloncare" do the same or is that purely for restoring/brightening outsoles? Heard many testimonials where saloncare works better for brightening outsoles than retr0brite, but I'm wondering does it functionally similarly to retr0brite where you can also use it on toecaps, midsoles, etc.

If so I would rather just buy the saloncare instead of all the materials for retr0brite. Appreciate and will rep all those that help!

I've been wearing my Low Concord XI's lately and when I came home from wearing them one day, I noticed a small but noticeable cut in the patent leather a couple of inches away from the toecap. Is there any possible way to fix them?
700

Pardon the quality of the photo as my phone camera has problems focusing.

Sorry if this is in the wrong section but I couldn't find anywhere else to post it.

Was wondering if I can use these force fields for my Jordans instead of air force 1's. I can't find any other force fields.

http://www.finishline.com/store/catalog/product.jsp?productId=prod743340

Or can someone recommend me any? I have the bred 4s, metallic 5s, powder blue 10s, and the cardinal 7s that I want force fields for. I was thinking of getting just 2 pairs and taking them out and slippin em in to other shoe ima wear what ever day etc.

Anyone know what to use to keep the front of the metallic 5s black leather shiny? Its starting to get a little dirty with marks, ill post pocs later. Also I sprayed water proofer on my metallic 5s and it didnt work so well but wanted to know if the material goes bad because when i was spraying it it seemed as it soaked into the material. I really wanna keep em clean and have em for a long time.

Becareful though, acetone can be dangerous. Only work on some scuffs/scratches, so it might not be 100%.

Yes they'll work for Jordans. You might want to consider wearable shoe trees also, from what I've seen, a lot of people say those work better, but they are more expensive. I would recommend you to do some research before you make the purchase. This is one vid, you should check out the other ones as well comparing the two, etc.

So which one should I get from that site? I stated the one sin gonna be using it for: 4s, 5s, 7s, and 10s. There's universal
And others but don't know which one to buy because only one that was "shoe tree" was the "WST" one

They're all wearable shoe tree's. I've never bought one so I don't know which one is best, but it seems reasonable that either the WST or the universal/UNI would be the way to go.

Difference between WST and UNI is the notch on the UNI's. I think the purpose for the notch is to just makes it more comfortable on your foot. Like I said earlier, don't be afraid to do some research for yourself before you buy.

Bump, help please.
Small bottle of oxy-clean-$3

Corn starch-$1

Hydrogen peroxide 3%-$1

Total                              ~$5

I used 3% peroxide. Takes couple more sessions, but is cheaper and easier to find.

Get this sally stuff and get some corn starch and some oxi clean. youtube retrobrite or some people doing the mixture and it works better than retrobrite. Mad easy

Youre pretty much making hair bleech to bleech the shoe into white after leaving it under sunlight

Mix sally and some corn starch than mix and put into microwave 30 seconds than add oxi and put it all over the sole, mask tape other parts so it doesnt damage it. Than wrap with saran wrap than put under sun. Perfect mixture is thick enough to stay on the sole and not to thin it slides off.

the high percentage is easy to find, its salon care volumizer 40, get it at a sallys or a beauty supply place, they might have something else just ask if they have natural hair bleach with high peroxide percentage in it.

Thanks guys, but the one thing I'm interested in knowing most is that can the salon care mixture be used the same as retr0brite on netting, toecops, back tabs etc. and not just the soles. I've only seen people use saloncare for their out sole and was wondering if you could use it like retr0brite on back tabs, toecaps, etc.?
