:::OFFICIAL SNEAKER CARE/MAINTENANCE POST::: (It's back!)

Ok what should I use to get my midsoles like this? Paint? Dye? If anyone could point me in the right direction on how to I would really appreciate it.
Dye sticks into phylon midsoles fairly easy. Paint would come off. I'd go with dye
^ Wore them today no chipping or anything. I forgot how much I liked these things. No paint chipped from my wear either.
Strip all of the existing paint. Cop some Angelus White, and black. The repaint. The angelus bottles comes with a brush built into the cap and it works pretty well.

After I strip the paint, I tape around the area with 2 layers of painters tape. Then I take a SMALL amount of paint and start brushing it until it wont move any farther. Steadily that creates a thin bottom layer of paint. Then I brush more paint on top of that layer just a tad bit thicker.

Don't use any dyes, they don't stick to the material.
The hardest part is really in the preparation. Once you got everything taped/covered, it's a breeze.

I'm ready to paint my Fire Red 3's, however, I'm hesitant right now because I'm not sure how much duller I should use for 1 oz of paint?

I also plan on whitening the sockliner. Is Rit whitener the way to go for that?
I've been also looking for something to whiten the sockliners. Never heard of Rit.
Never tried RIT on the sockliner. It may work if the sockliner is the right kind of fabric.

As for the repainting, I bought fire red angelus paint for the midsole of my 8s, when I applied it it was the perfect color as is. It pops right. I wouldn't put any duller. I still don't have gray paint

I did paint the leather of the upper last night though and

in comparison to the other shoe its crazy. I've left the shoe that was intact alone for most of this project aside from cleaning off all of the stains. I may be able to take some before and after pics with that.
Painting a pair of authentic shoes doesn't put them on par to be fakes. It's a customization. I've done this and who cares what other people think?
Ok I'm through with this but, if you were to try to authenticate the shoes based on pictures alone, no explanation, they would appear shady. That's all I'm saying, paint what you want and be happy. To each its own. They just look like bother to the Crimson 3's to me.
There are thousands of customs made in the sneaker art forums, it doesn't mean they're fakes. Leave it be.

Thanks. What type of dye should I use? I'ver heard of rubberbond, but not sure which would be best. What do you think Sir?
I'd go with angelus dye. Their products are very good quality, and very price worthy. Plus the things they make are specified for shoes.

I never said customs were fakes, I just said why not use a fake as the base if you're going to butcher the shoe anyway. Same way people did with AF1's.

Can I get some help on my OG 14s that i posted a page back? Everyone arguing about customizing kicks being compared to fake and lose sight of what this thread is really for. I could use some help, I uploaded a picture. Thanks

How do you fix cracking patent leather? Is just black shoe polish my best bet or is there a better way?

Cracked patent leather is just like chipped nubuck. Cant be fixed unless you want to buy some patent leather and cut it out and replace it on the shoe. Which most wouldn't do. Most polishers wont be able to help you either seeing that they are really weak. it would just dull your surrounding patent leather

Sorry for the dumb question, but when dying the midsole, should I use angelus leather dye or the suede dye?
I'd go with leather.

Retrobrite.

Google how to make it, and how to apply it to use with shoes. Or look through this thread for thorough instructions.

Restoremysneakers has a video (restoremysneakers.com or youtube.) on how they sea glow soles on cool gray 11. follow what they do but on your midsole.

Yes it comes as a powder. Mix it with a little amount of water and make it into a paste. then rub the paste onto the mesh and brush it around. Let it sit in there for 2-3 minutes then wash it out completely. It may require multiple sessions but it works rather fast.

Thank you sir charles, went to my local walmart/arts and crafts store and they only have the powder version.. will that work?

Side note.. those bucks on the sb thread

Same boat, but DO NOT use the powder RIT. It leaves a yellow clumpy residue and it is tough to get out of mesh. I almost ruined my DMP 11's with powdered RIT. I think I'm just going to order the liquid one online.

Thanks for the info, so does anyone know how to remove the stains on the white midsole? At first its like a sticky residue then it just becomes a stain.
