:::OFFICIAL SNEAKER CARE/MAINTENANCE POST::: (It's back!)

Id be careful using that tire shine on the patent,

the reason being, I was using it on a new set of tires for almost a year, Then 1 day,

,I was cleaning the car,and I noticed little cracks all along the outer sidewalls of the tire..

I started thinking maybe it had something to do with the tire shine..

So to test my hypothesis I took a worn down tread tire ,its sidewall was in good condition.

I then applied the tire shine to it twice a week ,,for roughly 3 months..

Just like I suspected the face on the tire began to get the same cracks, that appeared on my new tires..

From what Ive read, not all tire shines are bad ,its mainly the shines with the silicone which cause problems..

Long and short, No, patent leather isnt the same as rubber, but the silicone in the tire shine can cause rubber to dry rot/dry out

,leather Id imagine would be just as susceptible..

You all can do what you want , I'm just giving food for thought..
What kind were you using armor all cracks tires dash boards, best product imo is arero space 303

Thanks for all the help on my jordan 3 people big thanks ill try all the suggestions excited to start my little side project

I need some help with my Dr. Doom foams. What can I use to clean the white sockliner? Its seems alittle off white compared to the bottoms and the white swoosh. I used soap and water, as well as soap and oxyclean. Their still not as bright as I would like. I seems like everyone likes the RIT whitener. Would this mess up the black leather on the uppers if it were to come into contact with the RIT whitener? Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

Just bought these and wondering if Mr. Clean Magic Eraser would be safe to get these black spots off the swoosh? I'm afraid the magic eraser might leave behind scuff marks, and I know this swoosh material on the Tiffs is delicate.

Thanks guys.

^if in fact the black spots are removable and not the paint beneath the silver then yes it should work, but be carefull magic eraser is a super fine sand paper and if too much pressure is used it may mess up the shoe so take your time, be gentle and it should work. Have you tried using your nails to scrape them off? i always try that but again be careful lol good luck!

So I've been reading in this thread to find an answer. It looks like on page 190 Sir Charles said that the RIT whitener and brightner wouldnt change suede to a different color if it go on it, and that it only brightness up the white. Would this work the same for leather I assume?

This should be relatively easy. You were on the right track. Get an old toothbrush and your oxyclean. Take one SMALL CAP of bleach, mix it with the oxyclean into a paste. Wet the toothbrush with it and scrub like hell. Rinse off the oxyclean/bleach and use regular water to wash out the chemical. Repeat. If you want, you might want to treat it with soap and warm water after to help wash out the bleack and oxyclean as it can get powdery when it dries. I did this for the white sockliner for my AJ III and it worked. Do not put too much bleach because in the long run it will make the white turn yellow so a small amount should suffice to clean it but not yellow it.

I might have to give this a try. Should I worry about the bleach/oxy mixture touching the black leather though? I just dont want the uppers to get messed up, theres in such great shape except the sockliner being off white. I'd hate to ruin them trying to clean them.

I don't have the shoes yet, just purchased them actually! Very excited to get 2x worn VNDS authentic tiffs!!

Thank you for the tips though, I will try that out. Anyone else have any experience with Magic Eraser on something similar to what I've described? Or maybe a bad experience with Magic Eraser where it left abrasions of some sort?

Thanks everyone

Be very careful with the mix. Because it's a small amount of bleach, it shouldn't affect it much, but still be careful and not let it touch any part of the black. It should be easier since it's a paste and not straight bleach so there's no splashing of the bleach. What might also be effective is take the soap and scrub it immediately after you scrub with the oxyclean/bleach. It might make it brighter, but you can use each cleaning method to your liking. It's up to you.

i was just thinking and try the liquid version of Barkeepers Friend (at home depot its like 3 bucks) and use a soft bristle toothbrush and they will shine it up good, but again use it lightly and dont put too much pressure or u may take off something u didnt want to take off lol

Great advice. Once again thanks man!

Does anyone know how to clean and restore 3M on shoes? I have a pair of Nike Dunk Supreme Sparks and the 3M is creased on the toebox and it's kind of dirty. I haven't taken actual pics but these are the shoes

^ I like using soap/hot water and a sponge to clean 3M. I tend to stay away from abrasive instruments like toothbrushes, other types of brushes, etc as to not scratch the reflective layer of 3M.

To clean a dirty/creased toebox I stuff them with plastic bags to pop the creases out so I can get the dirt from between them.

Alright thanks I'll try it now. Oh and how can I get the creases out of the toebox with that mesh like material?

^ Not sure how to remove creases from mesh. There are instructions all over the thread on how to remove them from leather. Might wanna look those up and give it a try.

And do you think the crease will come out of the 3M or is it gonna be permanently there? Couldn't find anything on that

Can anyone show me how to fix the suede chipping on these Cool Grey 4's?

Should I take them to a shoe repair shop?

Anybody got advice on how to bring back milky soles such as the Kobe IV Carpe Diems. Does sea glow work on em? Don't want to ruin them.

Anybody have the upper mesh of their Concorde start to yellow a bit? Anyone know how to whiten them up? I tried some Jason markk but i still think they a bit yellow.

Are shoe trees that helpful when it comes to preserving the toe boxes?  Should I just stick with the ones the shoes come with, or are there other better kinds to use?

I always stick them right back in after wearing em.
It helps push everything back out

There's no way to fix suede/nubuck chipping.

U can dye it.

But I'd leave that completely alone.
