Sucks to see cliques. I wish America was a melting pot; whats with college kids social self segregation?
Makes life so much more difficult w/ reinforced stereotypes.

And ya'll mad when you see racism.

Cliques would be there even if America was a melting pot.

But yeah there are plenty that would argue that America is the exact opposite of a melting pot.

One of my professors said this line once.

People like different things, thus people who like the same things are part of "cliques". That's why everyone is friends with everyone, becausewe have different views.

A salad bowl they say.
We don't lose ourselves in a salad bowl, at least that's what my teacher last year said.

People hang out with people of similar interest, background, etc. You chill with people you can relate to, 9/10 of ten they tend to look like you.

Your going to find more groups of asian kids, black kids, etc. then what society calls "token" cliques. Thats how %@%! is, deal with it.

I'm black, I hang out with mainly black folks in college. I see no problem with this. I can relate with them better. Believe me, I've tried to hang outwith other people and it just isnt the same. The easiest way to accomplish that was by smoking with them. After i quit smoking weed though, I realized we hadlittle else in common. Honestly, I really only chill with people from other elasticities when It's time to do schoolwork. I study with A LOT of differentpeople, but kicking it on the weekend? No.

I've seen this at a lot of mixed universities and high schools. The best place to see what OP is talking about is in the dining halls. It's blatantlyobvious.

where do you go to school?

I go to a school where this isn't a huge problem. But I am familiar with this that Public schools this resides as a massive problem.

what does this have to do with racism tho? its not racist to hang out with people who look like you if you share the same interests...you can't forcepeople to be friends...

Yeah, I don't like the "melting pot" metaphor because that would mean that we're all the same. In a salad there's multiplecomponents like the lettuce, other veggies, croutons etc., without everything fusing together.

But somewhere along the line this became another tendency that was deemed "racist" in society. I hate how there's this sentimentthat because races generally don't associate with each other it's a bad thing. It's just natural human instinct to associate with things that arefamiliar. I have nothing against minorities at all, I just don't have anything in common with them, I wasn't raised around them, so why should I beforced to make friends with them. As long as I'm not actively suppressing their ability to interact in society, then who gives a f?

i bet you'd be surprised what you have in common with alot of people...you probably don't even know what you do/don't have in common cuz youweren't raised around them or tried to kick it with other people...

I know it may sound messed up, but it's things like "Black History Month" that keep us segregated and thinking of each other as a color insteadof human beings. It's true.

The best thing my high school did was get rid of honors Language Arts courses. Everyone thrown in together, including the elective LA courses. Youcould do some extra work outside of class to get that little "H" on your transcript, but in the classroom, the whole school was equal. It was farmore successful than any diversity assemblies, days of respect, love thy neighbor, etc. garbage that was forced on the entire student body.
