Is Eric Avar the goat designer of Nike performance kicks ?

I never realized how many great shoes he designed until I typed his name in the search feature for Google Patents...it seems like he designed pretty much all(well, not all but a great number of them if you catch my drift) the classic Nike shoes in the mid to late 1990's. I mean, did he ever sleep? Or didanybody see him NOT working on the next project he was assigned? Seems like all he did was work 24/7.

did anyone save Eric's interview on kicksology.net?
Wish Kicksology.net will come back again!

Rock and others...what's the main different between designer inside kitchen and nike basketball designer?
thanks

If anybody is in the know, how do these designers get paid? Meaning, per sales? Or per design? Or by offer?

Kitchen Designers are mostly senior designers OR designers which work on Special Projects or have the flexibility to work on just about ANY design within Nike. I know they have talked to a respected Designer here, but Im not sure what came of it...

That dude would be a GREAT addition to the Kitchen family.

The Kitchen is the Kitchen because they are ALWAYS cooking something up. I don't believe the Kitchen has the same time lines as those working in linestuff and within Nike Basketball Matt.. I may be a little off in my assessment... but Tracey Teague is a Senior Designer, but doesn't sit in the kitchen... Not sure why not...

Yep - invented the whole concept of a cross trainer. He also was central in the beginnings of the ACG line, he invented visible air with the Air Max and AirRevolution, we all know what he did with the AJ line - and I'm sure theres other big stuff I'm missing.

Hell Yeah!! Damn, I spent so much time on that site. I really miss professor K's reviews. The sites I spent the most time on are Niketalk, Kicksology, retrokid, air-jordans, and eastbay. "Back in the day when I was a teenager....."

That pretty much sums it up RockDeep.

Because Tracy is Nike's Global Creative Director of Basketball, he oversees a team of about 25 designers, both apparel and footwear. So it would be morebeneficial to keep him in the JR Building. I must say he does have a pretty small office in the corner. Or maybe it's because he has a lot of stuff inthere haha.

The prominent names in the "new" Innovation Kitchen are Tinker Hatfield, Eric Avar, Wilson Smith and Tom Ludecke.

And let's not forget that Tinker, Eric, and Aaron collaborated together as "Team LeBron" to design the Air Zoom Generation. We all know whathappened from there!

Is he primarily focusing now on the NIKE Zoom Kobe line ?

Because I know for like the past 3 years he's been doing both Kobe & Lebron's shoes .

i cant imagine any way of combining them without replacing the patent on the XIs with foam, where else would the foam go if you leave the patent leather?

The above statement is true.

You cannot mix Foamposite with patent leather because Foamposite is SOLELY an upper made of polyurethane-based material. Patent leather is just leather whichhas been given a shiny finish by using linseed oil based dressing, but now it's usually plastic-based. It would not bond very well with the Foampositematerial as it would leather.

I'll never forget my first time meeting EA. He was actually picking out his desk for his office adjacent to Mark the Lisper. Mark is a decentsneakerhead....or should I say 'Dethent thhneakerhead.' HAHA! Campus kids know what I am talking about LOL. We both laughed about how the mahogany desktop didn't match the finish of the oak flooring beneath him and how the corner windows were streaky. He didn't seem to care. He said he had a nicechair mat that he got from the discount bin at Office Depot. After that I walked with him to the water cooler exactly 45 paces past Julie Jones thereceptionist...right around the corner from the broom closet.

i dont mean use the AJ XI as the primary design, I meant both designers collab and design a shoe with their signature materials/design

how dope would that be? like John said before, it'll be called E.T.

just a thought..

Technically yes. Creative Director, a MUCH bigger role, focuses on the direction of the line for that season. I'm sure Brand Management has a say in whatdirection the Brand will go, but the Creative Director as well as RND works with them to put their vision on paper. I'm sure EA probably has his hand orhas approved many of the shoe designs that are out or will be out.

Edwin, just the idea of a Tinker and Eric collabo gives me the chills. I feel ya my dude. STUPID DOPE.

MenofOregon=Would it be possible to attach foam to a patent base, or vise-versa? Kinda like the way the 1/2 cent looks, but integrating Jordan classics insteadof previous Pennys? Maybe something like Jordan IV's and Penny II's or Jordan V's and Penny I's. I know I'm reaching, but Pennys are secondonly to Jordans in my book.

I don't like any of the Jordan fusions that have released, and I think it's because they were fused with AF1 (not that AF1's are not classics, butit just doesn't float my boat). I really like the 1/2 cent though. The 1/2 cent makes me feel like it would be possible to make some serious heat ifexecuted properly.

No. Kenzo does not work for the Kitchen. He could, but has so far chosen not to.

how about a Jordan x Pippen Fusion. Both have great kicks and we all know what they did on the court. I'm sure they wont have any problems marketing andhyping those. Maybe BP can do this fusions for us
