Official New Balance Thread *sizing info for different models on first page*

There is absolutely no reason they deserve that price tag. The situation is similar to the 990s last year--no need for those to be $180 MSRP. And I think most people probably agree with that because almost everyone I know grabbed those with deep discounts. The only pair I paid retail for was the Navys, and a few weeks later I was kicking myself when they could be had for $120-$130ish with ease. That was the last time I paid retail for a GR NB.

IMO, it's a pure money grab by NB. They realize that they're hot right now and that their retro following has grown a TON. So they drop an obscure, never-before-rereleased shoe, jack up the price and hope that people flock. Can't say I blame them, as they're in the business of making money. But $200+? And they didn't even get the OG colorways right? Easy pass.

The worst part is that if GRs are $200, what will collabs cost?

Maybe I'm 100% wrong, but didn't the 990 price have a lot to do with the vibram soles? I don't know anything about the extra costs associated with using them, but it seems like shoes or boots that do tend to be more expensive. 1300jp's come to mind.

Exactly what I was thinking. Probably $225-$250+ if the supposed $200-$215 retail is in place. I guess with other brands releasing shoes at $225-$250 (ie. 3Lab5 and certain foamposites), they maybe feel like they can ask for that money, especially with NB quality being superior. With that said, I really hope they're in the $150-$170 range. Less would be great but more just shouldn't happen.

Ahh, didn't think of that.  I guess that could be the case.  That being said, do the 997s have Vibram soles?

I had a little chat with MR SBTG himself, nice guy, asked me did i get my size, i went with some ladies, and was concerned that his releases were ladies sizes and ladies were able to get them. He even thank for me getting like 11 pairs and all autographed by him. HAHA.

11 pairs? lol

Yeah that price seems iffy, imma ask my boy the retail and let you guys knowBut aint paying $200+ for GR no matter what it is

I think that price might be in AUD and the austrialian retail price not US. I would be very surprised if they were over $200 US retail.

Few more snaps of 990/998 and 1300s from my friend's camera:

These need to release soon, one of my favorite NBs recently

aint no one had a problem paying 200+ on 1300JPs in 2010. I dont see the diff. now

Were those GRs though? I always thought they were somewhat limited, hence why they're damn near impossible to find. To me, availability makes a big difference when it comes to price.

they were limited. they were also the most expensive NB release so its not really a fair comparison to a new 998 colorway. the 1300jps were the first that had been seen for the past 5 years.

new 998 colorway? i thought we were talking about USA made 997s...?

My bad, I thought they were talking about 997s that were showing $250+ retail.

They are and I am too. My point is just that IF the $259.95 is in AUD AND Austrailian retail prices we can expect much lower when they release in the US. I just used that link as an example to show that retail on the made in USA stuff almost always higher abroad. I don't know that's the case for sure but just my speculation as to why that price is so high

made in US pairs msrp in australia (and europe) is always higher than msrp in US. i think people are suggesting the pics of the catalog are not in US $.

1300JPs were "limited" but still a wide release. i was one of the guys that bought them for $200. no different than the grey anniversary 990s that were a wide release but "limited"

Retail on NB in Australia is stupid. $230 for 998's and 1300. When in the US it's much lower. So I think someone is trying to say that picture is from an Australian order catalog. So US retail will be much lower like it usually is?

Those 998s went on sale on plenty of places, you're sleeping papi.

and those orangish 577s are :smokin
