I also think another reason is that Asian NB's are much cheaper to produce so he can use premium materials on them without having the price spike to $200+. I think if he did a 997 it would easily be around $260.

Ehh I agree and disagree. The USA Made 997 inherently excellent quality. For example, the 997DTE starts at $200 and looks like it uses pigskin, which RF loves. Add a $20 price for the inline pricing and you're looking at $220ish.
I also agree that they brought these models back so they told RF to use them and nothing else. They'll save the 997 for the kings.
