Post one Jay-Z song better than any of these Nas songs

if you pick Jay-Z's best song, it doesnt come close to any of Nas' top 10.......so how to people consider him the goat, it doesnt make sense

One verse.

I don't wanna see a flood of *!$$ from random stans talkin' about "i couldn't choose just one blah blah"

Pick something that you feel highlights why Jay is top 5, worth d-riding, is comparable to Nas, is a great lyricist etc.

We will go from there.
Here's what I'm gonna do, because I honestly don't have a favorite verse, I'm gonna go to Reasonable Doubt and press shuffle andpost the lyrics of the first verse I get, then I'm gonna go to shuffle on his whole catalog and post a few other verses. I know I'm doing what you toldme not to do but not picking one, but I'm confident any verse I find will display why he is a great MC. Gimme a minute here....

I just had them all pasted and my edit didn't work.

Lemme re-do this....

1st RD shuffle was Cashmere Thoughts

Uhh, I talk jewels and spit diamonds, all cherry
like a hymen, when I'm rhymin with remarkable timin
Caviar and silk dreams, my voice is linen
Spittin venom up in the, minds of young women
Mink thoughts to think thoughts type similar
Might you remember, my +!%! is col-l-l-ld like December
Smoother than Persian rugs, the cashmere
chromosomes make a ****** Jigga Jay-Z lethal drugs
Eighteen carat gold pen, when it hits the sheets
Words worth a million like I'm rappin em through platinum teeth
I got the Grey Poupon, you been warned
Cause all beef return well done filet mignon
The Don, smell of Dom on my breath as I
yawn, (slow) when you !+$+ try to con a pro
As if you didn't know, Jay's about gettin dough
Spittin flow like fine wines down your earlobe
I'm smooth but deadly like a pearl handled pistol
Honies hum in melody when I, rub it like crystal
The proper ettiquette, when I drop the subject verb
then the predicate, with this rich ****** preterite
I'm solid gold, I rap like a mink stole
I stick pearl tongues your world'll never know
From New York, to Paris, the vocal style vary
From nice to deadly like a bad bag of D, now
notice, the child swift like a locust
Focus on the loc' I be the greatest ****** that wrote it
Return of the Jedi, from Rio Degenero
Worn da red eye, yet I, still feel the need to be fly
I did die when I'm rappin then slide like satin
You know the black eye white china in the brain cabinet
I never cry if I did I'd cry ice
From my ****** Sauce, I hit you with this advice
Life's short, so play hard and stick hard
and the only time you love em is when your **** hard

Every single verse on RD I could post, every verse is a perfect example, but that one works fine.

Now for the whole catalog shuffle....

First is..

Dynasty Into

The theme song to +The Sopranos+
plays in the key of life on my, mental piano
Got a strange way of seein life like
I'm Stevie Wonder with, beads under the doo-rag
Intuition is there even when my vision's impaired, yeah
Knowin I can go, just switchin a spare
On the highway of life, n it's sharp in my sight
Oh! Keen senses ever since I was a, teen on the benches
everytime somebody like Enus was mentioned
I would turn green, me, bein in the trenches
Him, livin adventureous not worryin about expenditures
I'm bravin temperatures below zero, no hero
No father figure, you gotta pardon a n
But I'm starvin my n, and the weight loss in my figure
is startin to darken my heart, bout to get to my liver
Watch it my n, I'm tryin to be calm but I'm gon' get richer
through any means, with that thing that Malcolm palmed in the picture
Never read the Qu'ran or Islamic scriptures
Only psalms I read was on the arms of my n
Tattooed so I carry on like I'm non-religious
Clap whoever stand between Shawn and figures
N, say it's the dawn/Don but I'm superstitious
**** is as dark as it's been, nothin is goin as you predicted
I move with biscuits, stop the harder n actin too suspicious
This is, food for thought, you do the dishes

I'm throwing in Hovi Baby by my own choice.
pimp.gif

Follow the flow, look
They say a ****** standin on the giant's shoulder can see much
further than the giant.. (the giant..)
So I got the WHOLE rap world on my shoulder they tryin to see
further than I am.. (than I am..)
And I have been tryin to be patient with they preoccupation
with David and Goliath.. (Goliath..)
But sooner or later, that patience gonna run it's course
and I'm forced to be a tyrant.. (be a tyrant..)
But bein tyrant, comin through your environment
Iron mask, n iron gas, n I am back
With "The Team," no I in that
R.O.C., y'all not eyein that
Y'all don't see, clearly cause the reign ain't gone
"The Dynasty," no not Ming but Shawn's
Dame careems, n it's the gangsta team
Stop your run, one of the reasons that they call us gangrene
The other reason, we got a gang of green
If there's better at gettin cheddar that remains to be seen, n

I'm so far ahead of my time, I'm bout to start another life
Look behind you, I'm bout to pass you twice
Back to the future and gotta slow up for the present
I'm fast, n can't get past my past
How they propose to deal with my perfect present?
When I unwrap "The Gift & the Curse" in one session
Ain't no livin person can test him
Only two restin in heaven can be mentioned in the same breath as him
Seven straight summers, critics might not admit it
But nobody in rap did it, quite like I did it
If you did it I done it before, you get I had it
Got mad at it and don't want it no more
And that goes for everything from flippin that raw
Flippin wh****, flippin vocal chords, don't get it twisted
Get it right, did different, did it better, did it nice
Did the impossible then did it twice (get it right)

Yup! Hovi's home, the global phone
The world is back in order the number one rap recorder is back
You cats overfelt yourself
You couldn't help yourself, now witness the reel for reel
In my absence cats get, absent-minded
Now it's time to rewind and remind 'em
why I'm in the position that I am
changin the game, my game could nail Madonna
Well after I'm gone, they'll honor
history in the makin, Pistol Pete
leave competition shakin without missin the beat
Chasin the hi-hat all over the track
The snare is scared of the air in here, BOOM!
And plus I get paper dog, don't let me forget
The watch face so blue like it's holdin it's breath
Can't see me skill for skill or check for check
It's the bow tie flow dog, I bring it to your neck
Live and correct I will bring it to your set
I got now, I don't care who got next
Rapper slash exec, Kordell Stewart
Your flow all y'all usin is mine, you're all useless
You ain't a factor, who are you foolin?
You all are *******, you takin it backwards (takin it backwards)
I'm tryin to progress with this rap +!%!
N your whole career is a accident
Who was gassin 'em? (**** outta here!)

And one final shuffle....

Dopeman....

Right hand on the Bible, left hand in the air
Before I spoke one word, made sure my throat was clear
A-hem, I'm a prisoner of circumstance
Frail n, I couldn't much work with my hands
But my mind was strong, I grew where you hold your blacks up
Trap us, expect us not to pick gats up
Where you drop your cracks off by the Mack trucks
Destroy our dreams of lawyers and actors
Keep us spiralin, goin backwards
At age nine, saw my first hate crime
Blindfolded, expected to walk a straight line
Mind molded, taught to love you and hate mine
Climbed over it, at a early age, Jay shined
**** the system at Lady Justice I blaze nine
Your Honor, I no longer kill my people, I raise mine
The soul of Mumia in this modern day time

Those are all weak?
grin.gif

Its not about being a Stan....its hard to pick THE best verse from an elite MC that has 15 years ofwork under his belt. Same thing for Nas (or any MC)....whos to say exactly what his best verse is....its debatable and if you're really up on their workyou're gonna have a lot of verses in mind. Post the best BIG verse, Pun verse, EM verse, Kool G verse, KRS verse....its up for debate and there is no clearcut best.

With that said we can start with something like....

While I'm watchin every _ watchin me closely
my s_ is butter for the bread they wanna toast me
I keep my head, both of them where they supposed to be
h_s'll get you sidetracked then clap from closed feet
I don't sleep, I'm tired, I feel wired like codeine, these days
a brother gotta admire from four fiends away
My pain wish it was quick to see, from sellin' caine
til brains was fried to a fricaisse, can't lie
At the time it never bothered me, at the bar
gettin my thug on properly, my squad and me
lack of respect for authority, laughin hard
Happy to be escapin poverty, however brief
I know this game got valleys and peaks, expectation
for dips, for percipitation we stack chips, hardly
The youth I used to be, soon to see a mill'in
No more, Big Willie my game has grown prefer you call me William
Illin for revenues, Rayful Edmond like
Channel 7 news, round seven jewels, hand dead in the mic
Forgettin all I ever knew, convenient amnesia
I suggest you call my lawyer, I know the procedure
Lock my body can't trap my mind, easily
explain why we adapt to crime
I'd rather die enormous than live dormant that's how we on it
Live at the main event, I bet a trip to Maui on it
Presidential suites my residentials for the weekend
Confidentially speakin in codes since I sense you peekin
The INXS rental, don't be fooled my game is mental
We both out of town dog, what you tryin to get into?
Viva, Las Vegas, see ya, later at the crap tables
meet me by the one that starts a G up
This way no fraud Willie's present gambling they re-up
And we can have a pleasant time, sippin margaritas
Ge-ge-geyeahhh, can I live?
Can I live?

Nah you don't make sense.

You started a topic but didn't have 1 logical response once people started to reply. What was the purpose of the thread if you don't have any responsebesides Jay-Z has no good lyrics and Nas is God? At least back up your opinion or reply to peoples posts. Your list was trash to begin with.

You sounding Stanish.

don't get me wrong, i love nas but you are just being illogical right now. there is a difference between being a fan of nas and claiming that everything hecomes out with is the g.o.a.t. nas has a catalogue of pretty !#+%!% songs
laugh.gif
and out of all of the songs he's made you pick THESE
laugh.gif

i will go out on a limb and say all of jayzs songs > the songs you posted (that i didn't delete)

jay-z can be mediocre and subpar at times but his beats & flow are usually always on point.... so songs can be listened to

As expected, we start with RD.
laugh.gif

Anyway,

That isn't a bad verse, but I don't see ANYTHING as special about it as dudes are making Jay out to be. Nothing mind-blowing at all, just a typical"rags-to-riches" type done no where near as well as plenty of others have.

Of course, NT and the average Jay stan's favorite line: "I'd rather die enormous than live dormant"

Really ? It's a concept that has been said for years by many different people, many in better ways than this. But when Jay says it, it's absolutelybrilliant work rivaling the theory of relativity. I don't see anything in it.

I can go post a plethora of verses off Illmatic right now, but I'm pretty sure most knowledgeable rap fans already memorized illmatic, so that ispointless. Both of their best works side by side and Nas easily wins.

How can a man be GOAT or top 5 or whatever NT is claiming right now when one of his "best verses" (which I asked to highlight his lyricism) is soplain and has been outdone by plenty of rappers, some of whom mop the floor, ceiling and walls with him lyrically while doing so.

Of course, what's a classic Jay verse without ducktales about moving coke and bragging about how much money he has ?

Look at my verses as well.

And of course people are gonna start with RD. That's his best album. If you're gonna look at Nas' best work, we start with Illmatic...what'syour point? You'll do that with any rapper.
grin.gif
I'm not gonna tellyou to post Nas' best verse and expect you to post his best verse of Nastradamus.

And the verse he posted is a great verse, listen to the verse, it has great flow, great lyrics, it paints a mental picture, there's A LOT going for thatverse. I'm surprised you didn't call it bad and at least didn't bash it completely...but I am surprised that someone that claims to be as big of ahip hop fan as you can't see how that is a great verse.

So basically....we posted evidence to back up Jay's lyrical prowess and you responded with more hate and failed attempts at humor?

Every rapper (human) say's things that have already been said. Its about the way you say it and the context of its use.

You just talk a bunch of s_ but never back it up with any solid evidence. Once your shock value runs out....your posts amount to a bunch of babbling. Post aNas verse that is on another stratosphere from the Jay lyrics above or you ain't saying nothing.

Don't worry. He's 100% right all of the time and doesn't need to back up his points.

He's the only person in the world with a valid music opinion and everyone that disagrees with him is an idiot and knows nothing about music.

Just by him saying that verse isn't special, I no longer like it and I realize that isn't good. I looked past the fact that he backed up his argumentwith absolutely no reasoning and I looked past the fact that that verse is a classic, it just is no longer good, because MidEastBeast said so.
smile.gif

Nas verses on another stratosphere ?

Plenty to choose from, but let's start with verse #1 off NY state of mind. They are not even in the same league. Nothing Jay has done in his life (I haveheard almost everything he's ever done and have most of it) has ever touched it. The vivid imagery alone is

Preferably not Dopeman because that's my least favorite of the verses I posted.

so you are saying a song like Money, Cash $+*% is better than a song like I Gave you power? shame on you, i'm done replying to you because you obviouslyare totally clueless

please go back and reread my post until you get it.

I'm assuming you posted those verses as examples of Jay's lyrical ability. Now. Look at the verses you posted. Those are verses from someone NTbelieves is top 5 DOA or GOAT or whatever.

Now, let's compare to someone NT posts rolling emotiocons when his name is mentioned.

Click play with an open mind like you have never heard of this guy before, and just read the lyrics as you listen. As you can probably tell by the videoquality, this was recorded in his bedroom. He wrote this song at 17 years old, in high school. After the whole song is done, I dare you to honestly say Jay hasanything touching it.

Basically it's just a young Vinnie Paz spittin' raw about his pain.

Lyrics: (copy pasted might have mistakes)

Intersections in real time
The unbroken circles and dimensions of the mind
The tie that binds
The eternal tie that defines
The vanity of my insanity in due time
Will shine
Like the night seas under the moon
The haunted corners of familiar rooms
Yet i'm consumed
With vanishing into thin air
The realization that this #@!* is my cross to bare
So where
Did I think I could run away to see
The people that decided to leave without asking me
But we
Decide to wait for happier tomorrows
And find someone so they can be distractions from our sorrows
For my distractions the books of paper that i scrawl in
I'm eloquent as summer breeze and leaves just have fallen
I've crawl in a corner hoping all of this will end
With the knowledge that love is just another word for revenge
I who have nothing but the comfort of my sins
I who have nothing but the comfort of my friends

Chorus:

I, I who have nothing
I, I who have no one
I, I who have nothing
I, I who have no one

Verse II: Ikon

As I decay, demons prey above me like a vulture
Ability to endure contradiciton is a high sign of culture
Verbal sculptures, self defacing
It is not God or lunacy that I am facing
But the erasing of the purity and passion of my words
The herds of cattle babble on with talk of the absurd
But I preferred
To walk away from all the feuds
To find my life is more confusing than a rubic's cube
So i'm subdued
In all my words of verbal prods
To live alone one must be an animal or a God
But it's official
All of my pain is clear as crystal
The natural side of life has now been seeming artificial
But I can hit you
And rest assured that i'ma last words
I could give a @%%* about ya secrets and ya past words
I can pass words with the ability to hurt you
Patience is a virtue and knowledge is a commercial
I who have nothing but the pain that I refer to
I who have nothing but the pain that I refer to

Chorus

Verse III: Ikon

Lost among the miracles, I stand alone
And i've grown into a being that's sitting on top a throne
I've known
For many years that I would turn to rust
I find a reason for another breath
Before my return to dust
I become one with science and mathematic and the rising of the sun
I'm numb
To all of those who blind and cannot see
The chastiser of the enemy
Perception requires duality
Inspect ya soul, the color of coal inside the body
I have hardly, come across them who's holy
Send them to the cherubim to control thee
Burning of the sun and frigidness of the cold
The battle field is new but the war is now old
You can never see the merest shadow of a halo
Above the head of evil djin who's deadly like tornado
The world has become an aquarium
Full of gaping fish with murderous smiles
I on the other hand stand on the outside looking in
Writing down murderous files
I who have nothing but the lack of variation
And I who have nothing but chains and suffocation

Listening to Jay afterwards makes me feel an ENORMOUS gap in skill between the two.

Rappers I monkey flip 'em with the funky rhythm I be kickin
Musician, inflictin composition
of pain I'm like Scarface sniffin cocaine
Holdin a M-16, see with the pen I'm extreme, now
Bulletholes left in my peepholes
I'm suited up in street clothes
Hand me a nine and I'll defeat foes
Y'all know my steelo with or without the airplay
I keep some E&J, sittin bent up in the stairway
Or either on the corner bettin Grants with the celo champs
Laughin at baseheads, tryin to sell some broken amps
G-Packs get off quick, forever $%$@%$ talk %*+#
Remeniscing about the last time the Task Force flipped
$%$@%$ be runnin through the block shootin
Time to start the revolution, catch a body head for Houston
Once they caught us off guard, the Mac-10 was in the grass and
I ran like a cheetah with thoughts of an assassin
Pick the Mac up, told brothers, "Back up," the Mac spit
Lead was hittin n_s one ran, I made him backflip
Heard a few chicks scream my arm shook, couldn't look
Gave another squeeze heard it click yo, my s_ is stuck
Try to %@@% it, it wouldn't shoot now I'm in danger
Finally pulled it back and saw three bullets caught up in the chamber
So now I'm jetting to the building lobby
and it was filled with children probably couldn't see as high as I be
(So whatchu sayin?) It's like the game ain't the same
Got younger $%$@%$ pullin the triggers bringing fame to they name
and claim some corners, crews without guns are goners
In broad daylight, stickup kids, they run up on us
Fo'-fives and gauges, Macs in fact
Same n_s'll catch a back to back, snatchin yo' cracks in black
There was a snitch on the block gettin n_s knocked
So hold your stash until the coke price drop
I know this crackhead, who said she gotta smoke nice rock
And if it's good she'll bring ya customers in measuring pots, but yo
You gotta slide on a vacation
Inside information keeps large n_s erasin and they wives basin
It drops deep as it does in my breath
I never sleep, cause sleep is the cousin of death
Beyond the walls of intelligence, life is defined
I think of crime when I'm in a New York state of mind
I sold it all from crack to o-pium, in third person
I don't wanna see em, so I'm rehearsin
with my peoples high to GM, from a remote lo-cation
in the BM, scopin the whole situation like, "Dayamm!"
Metamorphic, as the dope turns to cre-am
but one of these buyers got eyes like a Korean
It's difficult to read em, the windows to his soul
are half closed, I put the key in
Pulled off slow, hopin my people flee-in
%!#%+ tried to knock the only link that tied me in
Coppers was watchin us through nighttime binoculars
This time they got us on tape, exchangin dope for dollars
Make me wanna, holler back at the crib in the sauna
Prayin my people bailed out like Time/Warner
Awaitin call, from his kin not the coroner
Phone in my hand, nervous confined to a corner
Beads of sweat second thoughts on my mind
How can I ease the stress and learn to live with these regrets
This time... stress... givin this s_ up... f_

Thinking to himself what done provoked him
His thoughts is racing like a vulcan
I swear I saw a lightbulb when
He finally figured out who was the culprit
I said yeah, remember me from Friend or Foe when
I told you don't ever ever come around here no more
Time to pay now, you try to rise, I wave the gun - lay down
This time you're really going to listen to Jay now
I try to talk sensibly, hoping that eventually you realize
I had this locked and it just wasn't meant to be
Plus I had sympathy when we all wore rams with your kis
And it was an afterthought that maybe you'll try to revenge me
But I was like "Nah", homes had to know he was wrong
And if you caught me on the foul note you would sing me the same song
Plus you promised
And that's really no fun
And here I find you in this Motel 6 with all these guns
And all your goons, lined up in adjoining rooms
Like some wild cowboys coming to get me at high noon
But my mind's like a flower in bloom
Peep how my eyes just scour the room
I'm alert, plus I paid the clerk I got it laid out
You think you the first n_ I played out, in a 2 hotel town?
Come on now, I peep your Lexus at you
Left the exit got some n_s on that side of the town
Money well invested, rudely interrupted
Jamaican accent..."Bwoy ya no who ya'ah s_ wit?!"
A gun in your face and that's all you can come up with?
I'm done talking, backed up and clap em, one in the abdomen
Do me a favor duke, get 2 ice cubes I passed em
Take that ice up, for the nicest MC
And please yo, tell BIG, he's unbelievable
Friend or Foe Biotch!

Honestly that Nas verse is unbelievable. Probably no other MC could duplicate something like that...not even Nas himself. But lets not act like Jay don't have bars of similar caliber.

Yes Vinnie Paz is pretty nice.

IMO, he's nowhere near Jay, but if you TRULY believe he's that much better than Jay, I can't change your mind. I don't care if you think Vinnieis better, but don't bash on everyone who disagrees like we're stupid, that's why people get so annoyed with you.

I disagree heavily with some of your opinions, but even though I don't think they're very rational, I've come to say **** it and respect youropinions because they are YOUR opinions. I don't know why, but for some reason you have it set in your mind that Jay-Z sucks and Vinnie Paz is way betterthan him. I definitely disagree, but there's something in your head that makes you believe this...there's no arguing with you, you're stubborn inyour opinions...whatever, it's cool. I'm done arguing with you because it's impossible to get through to you.

All I'm saying is don't go so heavily bashing people and acting so arrogant like every time some disagrees with you they're a moron.

Son.....get that Vinnie Paz garbage out of here.

All honesty and all jokes aside....homeboy is garbage hes not even top 100.

Hes your favorite MCs and that cool but he can't even stand up to a Canibus, Rass Kass, Black Thought, Pharaoh Monch etc...cats who employ similar styles.

You just like that space ship rap but sons delivery is weak as hell...no presence, his voice wreaks or wackness....sound like a pre-teen nerd, he flow ischoppy and doodoo, he trying to say everything and ends up saying nothing, metaphors are trash...trying so hard that it doesn't work....there is literallynothing good about his style.

GZA and Pun would rap circles around this bum. Sometimes simplicity is genious....son is garbage point blank.

Andre 3K...who you call overrated....shows him how ot do what hes tryign to do on albums like ATLiens and Aquemeni. Dude isn't even a B level rapper.

The vanity of my insanity in due time
Will shine
Like the night seas under the moon
The haunted corners of familiar rooms

You tell me how that gibberish makes any sense?

Any poetically inclined person who is well read could spit those lines...only feeble minded people looking for an identity away from the pack will latch on tothose lyrics....because they are wack.

Point Blank. He is making no sense.

Vanity of insanity will shine like the haunted corners of familiar rooms?....._ please!

The wordplay isn't even praise worthy and doesn't even make sense....he's just babbling like you do.
