It's going to continue. You'll know time is up when Brownsville gets gentrified.

Why is it sad?
A lot of people are left homeless or have to relocate as a result of gentrification.....
And somehow that's all someone else's fault other than the people getting priced out.

Well....when you put it like that, I guess you're right. It is their fault they can't afford the skyrocketing rent. Lazy !$$ people, should have went to college and got a better paying job.

no one said its anyone's fault. just that it's sad.

not to sound ignorant but white people moving into black or brown neighborhoods means the cost of living will increase rapidly.

now they pushing the hood to the burbs which is crazy...and the others are just lost with nowhere to go

seriously... how dare those people move to that neighborhood when they could afford to, now they want to get mad that the rent has increased pasttheir ability to pay it... how dare they be mad at something that is essentially designed to break up minority dense housing areas... ingrateful people...

This has been happening in my city. Its just unfair to the people getting the boot.

Its disgusting. This is just part of New York City losing its identity and becoming like every city, USA.

NYelectric would probably write a thesis paper on this. She bleeds Brooklyn although you really don't get that vibe from her.

Yeah rillo bushwick has changed

yeah man condos everywhere

I never thought I'd see brooklyn become a chic place...all the hipwhite kids live on my block

I made a lot of new friends.

Did anyone catch that episode of No Reservations where Bourdain went to NYC? That was depressing. All his favorite bars were gone and he andsome old punk rocker were just reflecting on the way things were.

When I stayed in the hood I remeber they gave everyone a dead line to move out. They tore them raggedy apartments down and put some expensive town houses inthe area. I thought it was funny as hell because there right in the middle of 5 other projects which makes no sense, how the hell are these people going towalk down the street or feel safe. They did the same thing in Bankhead. They got rid of perry homes aka " little Vietnam" and put some nice houseover there, but they really can't be serious to think people want to stay right down street from junkies, crooks, drug dealers, and killers.

In L.A they have these fancy apartments in the middle of skid row

There is no way Im livin near skid row and paying rent...... pretty crazy. Guess white people aren't scared like before (evading the hood)

so how do they increase peoples rent to the point they cant afford it. im pretty sure there are laws on how much you can annually increase rent. if anything, places being sold are probably pricing out locals.

here in chi they took peeps that lived in the "projects" and moved them into better neighborhoods in low income housing. residents got tons ofassistance to live in these NEW nice places. on top of that, it gets kids out of the extremely violent areas that surrounded the projects, AND put them in farbetter schooling systems.. it brought the value down in these suburban areas a little due to it being Section-8 housing, and yes the white people were upset, but those projects were staining this great city...they had to go. I'm not saying everyone who lived in them were bad people by any means, but admit theyhad more than their fair share of drug addicts, gang problems, and just straight lazy people. All I know this already amazing city is looking better by theday. Im not going to act like I know exactly whats happening in NYC or ATL or anywhere else, but some people (not necessarily anyone in here) that are blamingthe white man need to do a little self-examination first. Some people are just gettin mad cause they wanna continue dealin, bein a junkie, or keep bangin. Ifyou really wanna have pride in your city you gotta weed that $#!t out.

^i know my hood, Flatbush(which is somehow called Lefferts Gardens now) is a decent area thats being hit by gentrification. no 'junkies' or 'lazypeople'. mainly working class West Indian immigrants that are being pushed out of a community they lived in for years.

I appreciate cities that do something for the people before prices get gouged, but for the cities that don't its very depressing to see.
I feel bad though because when I came back to certain areas in Atlanta I knew the more white people I saw living there from before I left the more people Iwould be feeding at the shelters when I volunteered.
Dekalb county jail kitchen stay busy.

They got lucky that doesnt happen in nyc.

were you month to month or on a lease?

because i know out here (CA) if you are on a lease they can only raise your rent like 5% a year. month to month they can jack it up whenever they want

- I was leasing, however, whenever I renewed, I was starting over, like a new lessee, new rates and applicable fees apply.

- I did upgrade units, between year 2 and 3, though.

Yup this is happening everywhere. They been building up Sistrunk tryin to make it look more upscale they rapidly increase the rent till all them folksis out. ++%@ Regal Trace looks nice.

Keep in mind though that there are a lot of white people or just plain people who normally wouldn't, moving in the lower income neighborhoods becausethat's all they can afford now. We're going to see more of that.
