Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who is bothered by animal cruelty out of my friends and people in my age group.

Just saw a HBO special on how farm pigs are abused and killed, and it made me
tired.gif

I'm seriously considering donating and joining PETA

There are tons of videos on youtube that show this cruelty.

It's just messed up how us humans don't really respect other life on this planet. There is a worldwide mass slaughter of animals so we can eat themand people for the most part don't care.

I remember in Biology class learning that the human digestive system was originally meant to digest vegetables, not meat, then over time we became meat eaters. (as you can see through all the diseases and sicknesses that meat gives us)
Since we can't eat raw meat, then scientists argue that we are not inherently carnivors.

Anyways, just wondering if anyone on NT feels me on this and is against animal cruelty.

ok, i understand the food chain and that people kill animals to eat...i'm perfectly ok with that.

x2 as long as they are farm animals, not whales or anything.

I hate it.

I gave one of my homies a kitten cuz I ended up with a bunch on some random stuff. I went to his house one time and another one of my homies was trying tolight the cat's whiskers on fire with a lighter.

I came up $14 and a pair of dirty Adidas.

What ever happened with that? They go to jail yet?

And yes, animal cruelty is very sickening.

yeah, and what we've done to whales is on another level

we almost wiped out all blue whales (the largest mammal on earth) in the early 1900's

its just sad that we can't share this planet with all animals.....over population of humans is a key problem that leads to animal extinction.

people like octomom having 14 kids doesnt help

I stopped reading there.

PETA is a joke. Ingrid Newkirk needs to rot in hell.

I wonder how many people think that the Vick situation is ok because it was dogs, and it's not ok for how they treat the animals we eat.

actually its vice versa. people went crazy against Vick and we put him in jail because he hurt dogs, which are companion animals in our culture. However, people dont care about abuse to farm animals, because we dont consider them as pets or companions, they are just food to us so we dont care.

For every person who legitimately abuses an animal (not domestically, but slaughterhouses, packing plants, etc.), there are hundreds that don't. Don'tmake this out to be some widespread epidemic.

And anyone who is involved with PETA is one big hypocrite, considering PETA kills thousands of animals a year, and their president, Ingrid Newkirk, is thebiggest of all. Her diabetes drugs are the result of animal testing, and contain animal products.

vick went to jail because of the illegal gambling ring, why can't people get that through their head? he didn't go to jail because of the animal abuse.of course, it didn't help his case but it wasnt the reason WHY he went to jail. and peta is a !*@*##@ joke, i'm all for animals and i think they shoulddefinitely get treated a lot better than they do but sometimes I believe PETA does some stuff for the atttention.

It's like the Clinton impeachment. Clinton didn't get impeached for getting blown in the Oval Office, it was for perjury. Thecircumstances just didn't help, and it skews public opinion.

what i meant was he lost in the court of public opinion because of all the evidence of how he tortured dogs. There is an emotional attachement in our cultureto dogs, which doesn't exist with farm animals.

Hmm. Makes me wonder now. If he came clean from the start would he have ended up getting impeached?

Outright animal abuse is very disturbing. I don't understand how anybody can just hurt an animal for the sake of hurting it.

When I was in college I went to the slaughterhouse on campus (Purdue). I wanted to understand how meat becomes available to the public and it seemed like thebest thing to do was to witness the process. While I was there they dispatched a cow and a pig. Both were killed quickly and efficiently and I did not get theimpression either one suffered. Once dispatched, the cleaning process was very fast and methodical. Witnessing the process did not make me want to stop eatingmeat; in fact, I bought some steaks and sausages from the market before I left and cooked them up that weekend at a cookout.

To me, and some may disagree, the proper raising and slaughtering of animals for food is very different from the wanton beating of animals. Having knownseveral livestock farmers over the years, I can say that many of them treat their animals very well as those animals represent a revenue source for the farmersand it would not do any good to potentially damage their commodity.

People who neglect and abused animals infuriates me.
Being cruel to any living thing is unappreciated.
My dad kicked my dog yesterday for taking his shoe and I started crying and called him a jerk

Yeah...I can hardly watch animal cops. That #!$# hits me deep when you see those neglected animals starving.....
