But who do you guys think is the Best of the Rest?

Here are the nominees:

Dilla
Pete Rock
Stoupe
9th Wonder
Evidence
Beatminerz
Mathematics
Just Blaze
Prince Paul
Exile
Hi-Tek
No ID
Buckwild
Madlib
Ali Shaheed Muhammad

any others?

I gotta go with 9th wonder. I think he's shown his versatility on underground joints like the Murs album, Buckshot collabos and of course LB, as well asmainstream stuff with Jay-Z, Nas and others. And I just dig his beats and the laid back smooth vibe.

9th shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath as prince paul, dilla or pete

this site loves to gobble this guy for some reason

9th doesn't have anything that makes him worthy of a best anything discussion

he hasn't even really made his mark in hip-hop, he just produced a couple dope LPs and that's it

meanwhile the dudes he's being compared to have CLASSIC records and dictated the sound of hip-hop at the time

Surprised you didn't mention Organized Noize.
But along with them,
DJ Muggs (severely underrated)
Madlib
Alchemist (unless he's considered a big name)
Khrysis
MF Doom
Jay Electronica
Quik
Dan the Automator
Ant
Bomb Squad anyone?

how can I leave off Muggs and Large Professor? smh

for me, 9th just gets my head noddin like no one else

y'all sleepin' on Black Milk.

Minnesota
Kno from Cunninglynguists
Easy Mo Bee

and how y'all gon forget Beats By The Pound/ medecine men?

Pretty much killin it right now.

I honestly think any established artist can jump on a Zaytoven beat and take off with radio spins.
