Should he even be considered? I mean like from the late 80's to the early 90's he did his thing right? Then the ol' boy fell off.

I think that Ra get's the mention because he had a flow that would fit in today but way back in the 80's he was rockin with it.

But he hasn't made a significant contribution to the game in 10 years Addicted was in 02 and Classic wasn't even released on a major offering.

Does Rakim sit in your top 10 rappers of ALL TIME?

He should be considered...But its Biggie.

He is in my top 10 of all time but it's like comparing Shaq to George Mikan. Back then the best was just the beginning. Listen to Rakim now and he'sstill nice because you consider when it was recorded.

Its like when people put on a Beatles record and say "Damn, how'd they think of these catchy melodies and complex progressions at that time."Rakim's flow and punchlines were nice as hell at the time and you can still appreciate them now, but they're just not on the level of Hov, Big, Nasiror even Dre3K.

Rakim Allah is still greatest MC to ever touch a microphone.

He was the progenitor of a whole new style of rapping, and was an innovator of creating tracks that could educate the average partygoer whilst still makingthem move their feet.

The fact that he is even in the discussion despite not having produced a classic within the last decade says it all.

"I used to let the mic smoke / Now I slam it when I'm done to make sure it's broke."

I have a lot of respect for R...but I don't think he is the greatest of all time, more like the greatest of his generation. Rappers got better after Rakim.

He FORCED the game to adapt to his style in a way that no one else has been able to duplicate.

Dude was more ahead of his peers than any other mc considered to be the greatest.

IMO he is the greatest ever.

if you think he is, there is nothing wrong with that

personally, i think he is

the only other rappers ill take over him on some days are g rap and nas. some days, not all

Word, not GOAT imo tho...

I ain't gonna get mad if someone considers him the GOAT, I feel that more people 25+ would feel that way though, for obvious reasons. You never wanna admitthat someone is better than the one you were looking up to/a big fan of as a kid, so I can understand why older hip hop heads would feel that way about him.Lets get serious though, NaS = GOAT.

If you fell that Rakim is then I respect that. If I'm speakin to an older head then I expect him to phrase Rakim, BDK, KRS and G Rap. I have respect forall of those MCs and their contribution to hip hop. Rakim is definitely in my top 5 but I believe that Jay-Z is the best MC to pick up the mic.

I wanna know the list of these Rappers that got better

Rakim= GOAT

Changed the way MC's rapped, before you had cats rapping like... I got a dog a cat a mouse a rat/A fly he wont die and a little gnat

To....

Im just an addict addicted to music
Maybe its a habit, I gotta use it
Even if its jazz or the quiet storm
I hook a beat up convert it in a hip-hop form
Write a rhyme in graffitti in every show you see me in
Deep concentration cuz Im no comedian

I take 7 mcs put em in a line
And add 7 more brothas who think they can rhyme
Well, itll take 7 more before I go for mine
And thats 21 mcs ate up at the same time

I came in the door, I said it before
I never let the mic magnatize me no more
But its biting me, fighting me, inviting me to rhyme
I cant hold it back, Im looking for the line,
Taking off my coat, clearing my throat
My rhyme will be kicking it until I hit my last note

I guess in a way he can be considered the G.O.A.T. Aside from the fact that he can hold his own when being compared to the greats (Nas, Ander 3000, Jay-Z,Biggie, etc.) no other rapper has been so ahead of their time as Rakim was. Rapping was so simple back then, one of the more lyrical guys back then was KoolMoe Dee, and no one, not even Biggie, has been so futuristic with their music as Rakim.

I hate this crap. Rakim didn't invent complicated rhyme schemes, you had poets doing that #%%@ in the 13th century. Julius Erving revolutionized the abovethe rim game, was he a better dunker than Jordan...? I don't think so.

Oh and what a shock, a kid with the name Jiggaman doesn't believe NaS is the GOAT......
