To me, these two are two of the best young lyricists in the game. As far as technical rappers, few young cats are seeing them. Lupe got two great albums underhis belt and I think he can drop even better. eLZhi been more slept on, he got a near-classic 'The Preface' and acclaim from his Slum Village work. Thecomparision is 'harder than a german major midterm and paper' to borrow a line from zhi.

I think I gotta go wthi Elzhi. Lately, he's been leaving me more

than Lupe...

Who you got????

Elzhi rapped with Slum Village after J Dilla left. He's been on their later albums. And he just dropped 'The Preface' in 2008, which is insane, fully produced by Black Milk.

Elzhi and Lupe are two different rappers.

Don't let Elzhi's rhyme scheme fool you, he's still closer to a "mainstream" artist than Lupe is.

As far as pure lyrical ability (how appealing they are to the ear, clever bars), Elzhi beats lupe. Elzhi pretty much beats most cats in that category.

I suppose Lupe has him on "concepts".

And I thought The Preface was decent, but his other CDs are by far better.

I agree with everything except "pure lyrical ability", which Lupe is better than Elzhi (Lupe is #1 in the game in that category), butElzhi is right there tho...and yea, they are two different rappers, Elzhi is more raw, Lupe more backpack, but they still go hand in hand...

I would like to know why NT raped me for my avy tho...I guess they disowned me after the move...

favorite song by Elzhi is probably "Glow" w/ Royce

I don't see how Elzhi is more mainstream then Lupe...

But both are really ill...
Lupe got him lyrically...but Elzhi got him wit the flow...
Lupe is a little better overall though....

I feel you on the concepts but i have heard several concept songs from el and all dope.
i dont agree about being more mainstream. I can walk up to ten random people and ask them do they know the rapper elzhi and just maybe 1 cat might say yes.
at least 3 of the same 10 people will know lupe.

Yea I feel Lupe is definitely more mainstream than Elzhi (not a knock), and as far as concept records, 'Colors', 'DEMONS', and 'GuessingGame' and are all mindblowing concept records from Elzhi.

I think dude meant his music is more mainstream (which I think I agree with) , not that he himself is more mainstream. like AZ definitely makesmore mainstream-type music than Nas, but of course we know who's more known. Lupe is one of the most popular rappers out, obviously Elzhi isnt moreknown...

co-sign...and yea, Elzhi does have the concept records over Lupe, Lupe is more just with the personification, while Elzhi is all across the boardwith his. Guessing Game & Colors, ill

but yeah i'd disagree if someone says lupe got him on "concepts."
they shine on both but lupe's are just more esoteric than El's,
but when it comes to execution, you get a better grasp of the concept with Elzhi.

i agree though that lupe got him on lyrics, and elzhi got lu' with the flow.
lupe is better overall in my opinion, but imo elzhi is right there with him,
he just isn't remotely close to lupe's fame / less people have heard his material.

overall, they both nasty with it.

essentials are:
  • Euro Pass.
  • The Preface.
and if you want his older work, it's on Witness My Growth,
Out of Focus, and his stuff with Slum Village starting from Trinity.

imo he's gotten much better, and his lyrics more mature and sharper on the first two i mentioned.
and obviously he gets to really show you what he's capable of on his solo ventures..

other standout tracks that aren't on his lps :
  • Hiding Place ( Little Brother feat. Elzhi on Welcome to The Minstrel Show )
  • Glow ( Elzhi and Royce da 5'9 on Jake One's White Van Music )

You hit it on the knot. I dig your knowledge of the underground hiphop scene
