Yo Hahahaha Hahahaha have you had any issues with your lower fairing melting/warping? I just noticed it on my bike. Where it says "Honda" on the lower left. Took a quick look at a few forums and it seems to be a fairly well known problem. I hope it's a recall item.

as to what you should actually get, i think, contrary to the popular wisdom here, starting small/on a tamer bike is a good idea (with the added benefit that the smaller bike will likely be dirt cheap to insure as a new rider) people get bored on 600s & liter bikes too...yea you might want more power eventually, or you might also find that the 300 (honda's got a few sporty 500cc models too) is all you need, who knows? not advising against a 600, just that a lower cc bike might be a viable option...i would definitely recommend buying used (and either bringing a knowledgeable friend/mechanic, or getting your weight up on what to look for on a used bike), whatever you decide on getting; unless you just want the peace of mind of a new bike...

Thanks I'm planning on starting either this upcoming spring or the following spring.  I'm pretty sure I am going to start on a 300 because I've never even rode a dirt bike before.

My lower left fairing had some melting on the stickers. Down on the bottom where it says HONDA, two of the letters are a little melted. It might even be warped, just haven't noticed. I touched up the stickers with some paint.

plenty of people start off on bigger bikes having not ridden before without too much issue, if you are concerned about that...the benefit of lower displacement bikes is they are more forgiving in just about every aspect...whatever you choose you should be something you feel good about & want to ride, i you're going in thinking you'll ride the 300 for a season just to get a bigger bike you might not enjoy the experience...have you taken the msf/riding course?

Not yet I was planning on taking it next spring.

I hear this all the time, im just warning you man you will regret it :lol: most of us started on a 600 and we can all tell you it's not that bad at all and you'll catch on real quick. You and only You control that throttle but I promise after riding around in your neighborhood for a couple of days you'll get the hang of it

What's going to happen is you get that 300 and after a week you'll catch on, then your going to find people to ride with and hate the fact that you have a 300

I just know the way I am and I'll end up making bad habits to compensate for it being a little tougher to ride the 600 and I'm worried those bad habits would get me in trouble at some point  I have the mindset at the moment to just get a 300 and take my time to polish up good technique and things like that before going up to a 600.  Beside the point, in a year like this one motorcycle season will only end up being 4-41/2 months of the year so I probably wouldn't even get bored of a 300 until two seasons later which doesn't sound bad to me.  I also read you can get a used 300 and sell it after using it for the same price you bought it for or near it. 

And not to sound like a douche but losing $1000-$2000 in the course of 2 years in order to learn riding the right way is worth it to me.

Just throwing it out there but I bought a 250 for $1500 and sold it 7K miles later for $1200 back in 08. Small bikes never lose their value because there will be new riders every season.

Proposition Joe Proposition Joe gave you the more likely scenario. You will want to keep up with your crew on rides. That's usually when ppl get tired of small engines. But that's also when most ppl start riding beyond their skill level.

Make no mistake, YOU WILL BE A BETTER RIDER FASTER IF YOU START SMALL. No denying that.

I love 250s tho. I ride my homegirl's ninja all the time. Thing is fun as hell on twisties.
 
I actually got a little spooked about starting to ride though.  I was in the car with my dad the other day heading to work when he got a phone call.  Without getting too specific the guy on the other line of the phone told us his 21 year old nephew died in a bike crash because someone turned left in front of him.
 
Was the kid Spanish with his girl on the back? Sounds like an accident that occurred recently on Long Island. Sorry for your loss if so, and with that being said ride safe fellas.

thats tough, you can do all the right things but there is always the risk that other cars/things on the road pose to riders... many experienced riders say ride like everything is out to get you; even that being the case, there is risk to everything and you never know what will happen in any given circumstance...condolences to your pops friend & his fam
 
Troof! Every time I swing a leg over my baby I go into Bonnie and Clyde mode. Its me and her against the world. It's also why you will never catch me cruising through an intersection. My heads on swivel all the time. I assume every car is actively trying to run me over or turn in front of me.

That's one of the reasons I prefer riding solo. I get distracted by my crew and not being as careful as I should.

R6 has probably been the best looking Japanese 600 since the 03 version........ It's still honda in this ***** though :lol:
