But i do find myself liking the striped down triumphs that are out.
Speed Triples are so Naked/street fighters in general just look so much nicer. I'm trying to get my hands on a Kawasaki ER-6n (naked Ninja 650r) for the right price (around 4K). Found a few but they are asking almost 5K for them
"People ask me a lot about the values I got from playing for the Cubs for so many years. The value I got out of it was patience. A lot of people these days are not very patient."

i was going to post my new bike when i got it, but realized that the motorcycle thread didn't carry over to the new site for whatever reason. haven't even gotten a chance to really ride it and i've had it for almost a month. going to start putting it to good use though.
i also got one of those funny mohawks to put on my helmet, but it's been either love it or hate it for my other friends that ride...it's removable, but i'd probably only wear it when riding with a group of us.
I am in bmore bike was purchased in Dundalk. Bought the bike from a really cool couple from around the area. Was my first craigslist experience and it turned out alright. Would have been nice to make the inspection pending the sale or something since i had to put $200 into it for the brake and tire. But at least everything else checked out.
But since I am new can anyone give me a beginners break down on the "nicer" sport bikes. Is it all driver preference for a CBR vs GSXR vs Ninja vs R1/R6. From a visual standpoint i lean toward the Suzuki and Honda. But i do find myself liking the striped down triumphs that are out.
any bike out of those is going to be agile, fast, & high revving and the differences are so minor that it really comes down to what you like/riding style; motorcycles are pretty much all preference...though if you split hairs you can generally break it down as follows:
gsxr's - - - probably the most popular sport bike
yamaha r1/r6- - - probably the most popular track bike
kawasaki's - - - probably the most brute of the Japanese bikes, makes the most power,
honda - - - probably the most rider friendly/easy to ride confidently
then you have the "nicer" european sportbike makes (who generally don't bother with the 600cc class) like bmw, ducati, ktm, mv agusta, & triumph...only mv agusta & triumph make a 600 class bike (both 675s, i think) and all the euro bikes have quirky engines besides the bmw, and they all cost substantially more than their japanese counterparts.
the cool thing about naked bikes is that they give you a lil bit of everything, most cases they are detuned, somewhat tamer version of sport bikes, and no expensive fairings to worry about!!! though if you like that style of bike you may also want to check out motards/supermoto style bikes - basically street legal dirt bikes with road rims/wheels, they look like a blast to ride
super general, and of course from my point of view so others may disagree/have different opinions...there is plenty of information out there via forums, mags, websites, & vids to come to some conclusions. the best thing to do is find out as much as you can from those resources & take a trip to your local motorcycle dealerships & actually sit on the bikes, test ride them if possible
Been reluctant to come on since my bike got stolen a few months back...
But I've managed to save up $2k and buying season for motorcycles is coming up
#everythingturnedoutbetterthanexpected... I'm thinking about waiting till it gets cold outside so I can get a top notch bike for a stupid low price...
I have seen 600s with low miles for $3.5k. Just didn't have the pesos.
was talking to a guy yesterday and he said that he had a 500...
Perfect for me cuz it has great gas mileage, but can all crank out 140... And he got it for a 250 price ($3k new)
There aren't that many models between a 6 and a 250 though... But i'm going to start looking for that.
@jdeez:.those lights are dopeness. Love how it flows with the bike.do you ever get into any trouble with those lights?
Just put them in, havent rode much with them but when I have my headlights on, they dont terribly stand out..IMO should be ok unless the cops are douches

well I just got mine a month or so ago. the guy filled up the tank for me when I bought it and I literally just had to fill it up for the first time myself so I clearly haven't ridden enough to know about reliability and maintenance. from what I've read though, just take care of the bike and it'll take care of you. I was also considering a monster 696 but just wanted something more powerful coming from the gsxr600. tried to find a streetfighter 848, but couldn't find a used one in my area.
i paid $9250. brought the guy down a bit from $10k, but i could have defintely gotten one like $2k cheaper if i was willing to drive 4-5 hours away each way. i really liked this one though and it pretty much had all the mods i envisioned getting. he was only selling, because he almost got hit by some lady merging off the highway when she didn't check her blind spot. said that it was kind of like a wake up call and he was going to use the money toward a down payment on a house he was closing in on. aaaaalmost made me reconsider buying another bike though lol. the bike is absurdly loud though. a couple times i've taken it out kind of late, but rolled it down the street to start it, because i didn't want to wake my neighbors up
My first bike ever, 03 Kawasaki 636 20,000 miles, $2400 from CL.
Rode close to 250 miles already (only had it about 9 days)
Only thing it might need is new sprokets, oil change and a new chain.
Love it, very fast and responsive. Great starter bike.

lol, aftermarket exhaust causing this? switch back to stock and you probably won't have that noise issue. did your research show anything about maintenance costs?

got some racks stacked up and ready to cop me a bike this month...
I know its a safety precaution but I see lots of people that don't wear them. I've talked to a few people who use their bikes for commutes and they said they just wear regular footwear.

i rode in Maxes, Jays, Forces, Timbs, dress shoes, and boat shoes...
you're SUPPOSED to ride in boots...
the thing i didnt like was that i didnt really have a feel on the bike... like, i couldnt feel the difference in shift too much...
i always enjoyed riding in regular kicks, like some all Black Griffs or something cuz it lets you feel the bike shifts, but you're not messing up the shoe too much cuz its already black.
