im 19 now and about to start at laney college when classes start im trying to transfer out to a "real" college and i was wondering when i transfer doi still have to do 4 years or do the 2 years count towards that because it seems like it would be weird to be a 21 or 22 year old freshman and for those thathave transfered whats it like? is it hard to get into a good school if your transfering? im in the bay if that matters

My cousin went to Laney college, in Alameda right? He transferred after his sophomore year to Berkeley and it's been two years now and he's graduatingthis year. So, I don't think you'll be a 21 or 22 year old freshman.

you can either do the cal state requirements(39 units) or the IGETC which I think is 39 or around there, or you can do specialized requirements for privateschools which will vary, and then supplement it with the remainder your choosing(fill it to 60 units) but it's good to fill them in with your majorrequirement so you can float right into the program/school of your major. with transferring u also get priority admission.

you just simply apply by the deadline, when your first semester rolls around the school will mail you a check usually on the first or secondweek(latest) of the semester. they probably will also waive ur units like they did me, so when you register classes the unit fee($20 per unit) is waived. howmuch u get varies, I got my finan aid 07- current and they would drop 2 G's per semester(winter and summer like$~800) on me + units waived so like me your pretty much gonna get paid to go to school

.

however this spring semester the gov't only gave me 2 bills and not 2 stacks

because of the budget crisis thing. so you might get low balled but it's better than nothing. also don't get a conviction because thatwill dis-qualify u permantely from fianncial aid.

i'm not 100% sure but i think you should talk to your counselor and call the school's undergrad center (the one you want to transfer to) and talk tothem about transferring. Some schools don't always follow the "transfer after 2nd year in community with the required units." I know some peoplethat transferred in the middle of the quarter for some UC during their first or second year.

It seems like California has the most clear cut transfer system...wish it was like that here.

how do you get to sophomore year and not grasp the concept that a bachelor's degree is 120 credits?

you got a lot of catching up to do and I don't mean school work.

I transferred with 40 credits to a private university...They didnt give me any problems....i do have to go back and take some gen Eds that i didnt take in ccwhich kinda sucks but hey, its whatever....Needing PE and Music Appreciation along with Sr Seminar to graduate FTW....lol
