Pro - fast, easy, free, exposure to all types of music and a deeper collection of a specific genre you love.
Cons- I wouldn't know, never been caught but I figure if all of my d/l music was seized and I had to pay for it my kids would be in debt. I can't workoff 100+ gigs

Metalica is the whole reason for internet piracy. NO one knew anything about but a minimal amount of people and Metaillica basically gave Napsterand other internet piracy softwares free exposure and promotion by suing them. They weren't going to win that battle.

Its more of a con for the artist.

I remember when Thr33 Rings was about to come out, and DJ Skee was asking T-pain how much he thought he was going to sell in the first week,
and dude said 126,000 units exactly. I was like

dude doesnt seem to have much faith in his record, but dude ended up selling like 122,000 first week.

So with that said, artists that really want to make money really need to turn themselves into a brand if the really want to make money, because nowadays theyknow better than to have their income depend on their records sales alone. So now they have to find more endorsements, shows, etc. unlike back in the day (iebefore the myspace era) where artists made most of thier money off sales.

Yea no one around me even heard of illegal downloading until the lawsuit.

But I think it would have spreaded anyway but not as quickly as it did.

I agree. It probably would've still happened but it sped the process up drastically. Seriously. I didn't even have a cd burner on my computer back thenlol. I had a 28k modem I think lol. Then you hear about Napster then all of a sudden you gotta upgrade to a CD Burner. I blame Metallica for the current stateof music. Music sales anyway. Now they don't even speak on Internet Piracy. They know they screwed up.

ringtones..

If I didn't have the internet I wouldn't listen to half the music I do. Pros could be a wider exposure for the artist. Cons would be less album sales/less record stores
