Just got thru watching this video http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/04172009/watch.html and David Simon made a valid point. He feelsas if All the money used in "stopping" drugs essentially goes to waste due to the drug game being an never ending cycle. So why not use all thatmoney and invest into rehabilitation, and work programs.

Would it really be beneficial to the lower class?

I would wait it out for a little while and see, but likely leave the country if I couldn't find a drug free area.

The risk is there now, but it's a lot less likely, that I'll run into some crackhead driving down the street or in a store and that person will dosomething crazy. Yes, it can happen with alcohol now but you can't escape that anywhere in the world and for the most part alcohol is not as addictive ascocaine/heroin etc.

Stocks and options after about a month, just keep sellin options before the end of the day and make my dough like that. Then I would grow it. Always wonderedwhat some White Widow and Kush would be like

I would go get high in a public place

...wouldnt change my life at all though....I don't smoke that much

I feel people would be irresponsible with it once given the freedom to use it legally.

Im a recreational user, if that matters

If drugs were legalized, I'd be very excited that America took such a progressive stance. Those of you who are afraid of this possibility have beenbrainwashed by the government's propaganda.

If drugs were legalized they would be regulated. Furthermore, there would be a serious relief in the tax burden that American citizens carry today. Also, doyou all realize that there's a billion dollar untaxed industry thriving right now? We are in a recession, and with a progressive policy like legalizationyou would see an immediate stimulation to the economy. Not to mention that hundreds of thousands of people would be released from prison, and have theirrecords expunged, which would give men and women with records a chance to return to work. Crime would be reduced because the black market would be abolished. Also, those who wish to use drugs would be able to have a decent supply because the prices would go down, so that would also decrease crime.

Do you all know that the government spends 50 billion dollars a year on the interdiction of drugs? The DEA admits they catch less than ten percent of illegaldrugs coming into this country. This means that the United States has a policy of spending 50 billion dollars a year for a ninety percent failure rate.

There's been a big hoopla about the Stimulus Plan, and many people have valid issues with the plan. Yet, a quick calculation reveals that 6.25% of thestimulus plan is spent yearly on drug interdiction. This is money that can be spent in other areas.

There are two general reasons why people will choose to use drugs. To take away pain, and to increase pleasure. This is human nature, if the Draconian Lawshaven't stopped drug use, nothing will.

If drugs were legalized I'd be happy for the honest intelligent businessmen and women who would be able to legally enter a lucrative field of business. That is putting people back to work, something that needs to be done.

Of course there are flaws to drug legalization, but if you compare the potential flaws to the current flaws of prohibition, it's a no brainer. Lets takethe lesser of two evils.

If they put the billions of dollars they wasted on this war on drugs to education, health care, etc. it would've definitely improved over the past 25years. Now as far as legalizing drugs at most it can make a lot more jobs if privatized and the right restrictions are put on it. I don't know how much itwould necessarily benefit the underclass.

Business is still business at the end of the day. I wouldn't be surprised if those jobs would be outsourced as well

I think you're severely underestimating how much of our Americas love this plant. That coupled withending the ridiculous amount of money spent on this war on drug would be some serious amount of revenue that at least deserves consideration.

Can you be more specific in your comment? Legal drugs = no drug lords. That cansignificantly reduce crime. If you're thinking all drug legals means everybody will be hopped up on heroin and meth and be killing and raping you'remistaken. The Netherlands are a fine example of no drug laws and low drug use (much lower than the U.S). If people go crazy bc they're high off god knowswhat we have laws to punish their actions not the potential of breaking the law. If you think, oh no, what about the poor victims of drugged out fiends, whereare you to weap the tears of the thousands slain, and murderous wealthy thanks to this drug war?

How exactly does he sound like he's on drugs he's absolutely right. There are so many people in jail right now who are in jail based off selling drugsonly. A majority of these people aren't violent offenders just people who felt that the selling of illegal drugs was there only way to generate a decentincome. If drugs were legalized these people would have no business in jail and we wouldn't have to worry about building more jails to hold them in. Itseems like a pretty good alternative considering what we have in place now yields no results for anybody in america. Taz payers waste there money on puttingaway "Drug lords", lower class male replaces them, continues to sell to the same addicts, and gets locked up, repeat

If you're thinking all drug legals means everybody will be hopped up on heroin and meth and be killing and raping you're mistaken. The Netherlands are a fine example of no drug laws and low drug use (much lower than the U.S). Exactly... If anything a lot of people especially young americans are more attracted to drugs because it feels as if there doing some"illegal" or "risky, many do it to revolt or show how "bad" they are. Legalizing will definitively put a damper on this kind of logic.
