ive got a question about turnitin

i know that it searches throughout the internet to find word for word plagiarism, but will it catch it if i change some of hte words around? i have to do a 5pg paper and i just found like 3 pgs worth of information online so im wondering if it would still catch it if i change some words?

Just put it into your own words. It will always find SOME similarities in papers on similar subjects, you just want to keep the percentage low.

This semester I have a professor who is using turnitin and he said that it catches similarities too. He told us not to even try anything because we will getcaught.

check if your teacher put up practice submissions, you can test it and see what percentage you get, then if its low you go ahead and submit.

it catches phrases of 3 words or more...

you usually have a deadline to turn it in..my teachers lets us turn it in multiple times to fix our papers before the deadline.

way I heard is that you can't do multiple submissions because it reads your previous submission and will mark as 100% plagiarism

I have used this for two semesters now and haven't tried to cheat but I know your guarenteed to have some % of plagirism just depends how much the limitis.

I suggest you just read through the paper online and paraphrase. Don't just switch up a few words and copy & paste. Depending on what school you go to,they might even kick you out.

So be careful!

Put it this way..it's impossible to get a 0% even if the entire papaer is your idea.

yea i decided not to do that

i remember last year i had to do a paper.. i completely did it with my own ideas and made it up on the spot and it still said i plagiarized like 5% of it

Its possible^ look at those 3..theyre my papers, half of the text is directly copied, but changed around dramatically with the use of paraphrasing and shift+F7(thesaurus on MS word

You didn't use quotes at all?

Nope, these papers were not really final papers, our teacher asked us not to include quote yet. it was just brainstorming

^That's why. In every paper and thesis I've written in college, quotes were needed to reinforce your point. My teachers usually accept anything up toaround the 30% mark. I would think that brainstorming can result in 0% since you're just typing out your ideas without scientific sources.
