OFFICIAL STOCK MARKET & ECONOMY THREAD VOL. SCHOOL'S OUT

Based mod. Are you a professional trader or you're just doing it on the side?

Who else in here are pros and just doing it on the side?

And what kind of yearly profit/ROI have y'all accumulated?

I trade on the side, my real job is sales.  I have a nice size trading account though because I was a child actor.

I had a great 2013 though, one investment went up 45%, another went up 27% (more conservative long term position), and my short term trading netted me about 25% so far.  All in all I am pretty happy.  I am looking forward to 2014 though because I will have a lot more money to utilize in short term trading.

Hell no. I only started looking into the market this past summer. Had some cash sitting in a checkings account with minimal interest.

Did ok last year. Lots of opportunity loss and some drops that absolutely killed me (notably LITB 20 to 10, MNKD 8 to 5; oddly enough, those two are rallying today). I guess it's all a part of the learning process. Better to do it in a bull vs a bear market.

Don't get confused though if I prove to myself that I know what I am doing and I get enough saved up I'd probably trade full time.

I would go out on a limb and say the majority of us have other jobs or sources of income. You don't need to be a full time trader to make money. The best trading hours are the first two, 9:30-11:30. You need to do your homework and come to the market prepared with a plan to have an edge. Then have the confidence in your plan to execute it without emotions getting in the way

As an emotional gambler, this is the truth.

do you still act?
Wasn't expecting that

but no I don't I quit probably around 1998 or 1999 because I wanted to just have an actual childhood because you are running around in and out of the city every day when you are acting.  So I did that whole thing and then about 6 or 7 years later when I was 15 I tried to get back into it because I wanted to get more money but it was just a whole lot more to it for a teen/adult to act than a kid and it wasn't for me.

@paulwoll: $BBRY is complete utter garbage of long term investment play... that being said looks nice over 8.07. #VSB day one. Clears 8.45 could run.

My dude 808 came through with the youtube videos

That's my take on it. I think they're a dying company hanging on by a thread. I'd be surprised if they're still around in the next 2 years.

yea I just don't see how BlackBerry can save face at this point. They were on top of the (phone) world about 4-5 years ago. I remember the stock was like 80. Everyone who was anyone had a BB, especially business people. They had corporate on lock

I think iphone is getting stale just like blackberry did. I doubt my next phone is an iphone. Same interface, no major "wow" breakthroughs/upgrades from device to device and last but definitely not least built in obsolescence. I always had an issue with not releasing the best device possible. Instead Apple saves features for the next version so we buy the new one. When you compare the latest droid features to the latest iphone it is not even close. I mean that one windows phone has 41 megapixels :smh: Also the "cool factor" is fading for iphone imo

I asked this from a post i made and i was directed here... Hope someone can help

This might be a weird question to ask but i figured its best to ask my ntfam

Ive been investing on my 403 but have no idea what im doing..so far i have not lost any n gained 15% from 2013

Now im thinking of moving in more aggressivly to earn more for this year

For those knowledgable which specific stocks/bonds etc should i invest on??

So far im investing 60% on a fix rate and 40% on large cap stocks n yielded at15% for 2013...Again no idea what im doing so input from experts will b much appreciated

Thinking of allocating this way for 2014... Thoughts??

MDBX man. could've been putting it in the air for months on the house with today's move.

Wiz, while iPhone is getting a little stale, I have 0 desire to leave the Apple ecosystem. Having said that, they need to attach something new to the phone to keep it fresh and desirable. And I don't mean the fingerprint thing, which does have some positives to it from AAPL's POV. They need something that's gonna make me say wow, ok I'll upgrade.

I'm a big AAPL bull though. I'm under the belief that their pipeline has some potential. I could see their iWatch defecating on Samsung's, but if it doesn't, I may reconsider my views on the company.

They should probably get in with a 3d printing company. There's a lot you could do with that technology and Apple has the cash necessary to really make some progress in that sector.

Yea I don't see a whole lot of iPhone users jumping ship anytime soon. Nothing about iPhones these days are exciting, but the ecosystem will keep its users around.

I have a 403b through my university when I was working for them with Fidelity managing. I don't have a whole lot in it plus I'm young so I went for the aggressive growth funds - all into FSCRX & FOCKX specifically. Got about +25% last year so I'm pretty happy. Sorry I can't be of more help.
