****OFFICIAL GUCCI MANE & BRICKSQUAD 1017****

Gucci was mainstream bra lol...around 2010 is when I fell back listening to him for a while...I couldn't get into the "everybody looking" Gucci at first

TI played a role molding the trap lane in the early 2000's there's no denying that

Ehh idk I see what you mean with your definition, that ***** was still kinda mainstream tho

Wasted, Lemonade, Spotlight

, Obsessed Remix, Trey songs feature, Mario feature, Black Eyed Peas Boom Boom Pow Remix, Gucci Time, etc

I think at that time he was doing a good job of balancing the "mainstream" with the streets but you could definitely see his **** changing a lil bit to appeal to a broader group of people

Look at State vs Radric Davis. I **** with the album way more now than I did when it dropped, but you can't go listen to Burrprint 3D one of his best tapes and then go listen to the album which dropped only 2 months later and tell me that's the same Gucci

The jail stints messed him up after that the mainstream doors closed and the quality of music started to drop. Had he not came back hard as hell with Trap Back I think a lot of people would've stopped checking for him
Exactly this ***** foolin lol..don't forget 1 joint with usher too

I remember listening to an interview where Wop was supposed to do Love in this Club..Im kinda glad he gave it to Jeezy I don't think it would have came out right

Trap Rap and Hip-Hop/Rap are not one in the same.... T.I. paved the way? Just because the name of his album was "Trap Muzik" and it was successful doesn't correlate with what trap music is today at all.

Same **** different name, if ti never dropped that album, i doubt it would even be a "genre" but he got dudes really thinking that if you rap about selling, you a trap rapper, him & jeezy got these fans naive to the fact that rappers been talking about selling,

Trap rap = drill music, its still hip hop/rap, creating fake genres just to act like they doing something different but they still talking about the same **** rappers been talking about, i dont wanna hear you have to be from atl or on a certain kind of beat to be a "trap" rapper foh

This _ had joint's with Mariah and Usher but he wasn't going mainstream?

Nobody's knocking him for tryna make that move. Those were smart moves.

TI paved the way from the trap to commercial success and legitimate mainstream super stardom but that's really not the path Gucci has followed.

All the ATL cats the last five years have fallowed the path Gucci trailblazed.

It's 90% Gucci 10% TIP.
Gucci wasnt mainstream in 09?

Obsessed remix, song with mario, lemonade, him going to jail after that obviously stopped the momentum he had, but dropping mixtapes every other month isnt really a "path", if you're not on a major label and want to stay buzzin you have to drop mixtapes, the only thing gucci influenced on these new rappers are the adlibs, every rapper got adlibs now
Whether or not Gucci was mainstream isn't the point, but no Gucci was not a mainstream star in the vein of T.I.

The point was he followed a completely different path getting to the mainstream spotlight than T.I.  When Gucci went on that run he was barely even industry relevant. Freaky Girl was starting to feel like a long time ago.  Commercial "urban" music was cuttin Gucci check after check, from Mariah to Mario, because he was literally the hottest ***** in the streets, not because he was a mainstream figure.

It's never been about the subject matter. Rappin about bricks and bandos don't make it trap.  For me at least it's entirely in the production. One of these new cats could be rappin about algebra formulas over a Zaytoven beat and it would still be trap music.

I don't know enough about drill music to speak on it but Snowman shirts and brown paper bags didn't make TM101 a trap album, Shawty Redd made TM101 a trap album. I'm sure some will disagree but that's what it is for me.

Regardless all these dudes who've come up out of Atlanta used to swim in Gucci's nut sack.

Ask yourself how many of these dudes Gucci put on, how many got on a track with Gucci before any other established rapper. Whoever their go-to-producer is, Gucci had a albums length catalog with em first. Not even gonna get into the Gucci inspired adlibs and creative ideas. Sure there might be exceptions but that's the rule.

Post virtually any bar from any of these new guys, from Migos to Rich Homie, Future, Scooter, Longway/Thug, etc whoever. Guarantee you there's a Gucci bar from 06-09 that's the same verbatim.

Gucci may not have exactly birthed it but he for damn sure fathered this trap **** we know today.

i must've been in a bad mood when i first heard it..

the whole thing is riding, been obsessed with it the past couple of days.

Yeah rappers have been talking about selling but I agree the "trap sound" Migos etc. is doing today is basically what Gucci popularized years ago, same thing with the Drill movement to a certain extent

First time I heard Atlanta Zoo I had a 18'Sub in my trunk and lawd. Sh

My man Gucci was about 180lbs in everybody looking. Those air max'a and Lamborghini were to clean.

And "Trap Rap" is different from rappers talking about selling drugs.

It's more in line with the southern culture, strip clubs, trap houses, and the lingo/production of the south. Mainly ATL

Lmao naw I didn't like everybody lookin or boy from the block but I did mess with Atlanta zoo..Summer 2010 kush n oj,trap or die 2,and Albert Anastasia is what I mostly played

Son said you can rap about algebra over a zay beat and be considered trap, disregarding the whole meaning of the word trap

Zaytoven is synonymous with trap music. There's no denying that. Just look at his credits and see who he's worked with.

Zay came on the scene with his own unique sound that is still difficult to duplicate but just because the rappers hes worked with decided to rap about trappin makes him a "trap" producer? i dont think thats how it works

He's all but exclusively worked were those types of rappers, which is why he's synonymous with trap.
