[:: J. COLE THREAD | DREAMVILLE's ROTD3 ALBUM OUT NOW!! ::]

I think I pinpointed why I am disappointed with this album...

GKMC spoiled me...

I'm from NC..and I'm not feeling it like I was sideline story.

Need a few more spins though.

By the way Phonte is the best rapper out of NC.
I will definitely check him out

It's climbing the regular album charts too...
I know sales dont matter to some of you, but im excited regardless of the mixed reviews...

because if it sells well we'll get plenty of more Albums from Cole in the future. :smokin

I agree with this but, what I wonder if he does really well will he think its ok to put out a body of work like this in the future. The album isn't terrible but I feel like I gotta listen to this album a few more times for it to really grown on me as a whole. I do have some favorites, I just feel like I had more favorites on the last album.

So now I'm :smokin listening...makes a difference ill see if anything changes.

Still kinda let down regardless.

Its not a perfect album at all.
But its only been like 2 days.
And some of you guys are acting like its horrible or something.

And before you say im being biased, i gave it an 8.5/10...which is like a B.
Its very good, not amazing but verrry good.

I just dont get how some of you guys are acting like its such a WACK album, its not.
Its good rap. Its just not catchy and exciting like most of us WANTED it to be.
But he's progressing.

He still has a long career ahead of him. He can only get better from here man... just be happy with the progression.
He'll get there.

I feel you licensed...but the last album had a different energy from the first listen.

But I agree it's still early. By the 18th dudes could have a different feel...

That was another plus by the leak if you think about it.

When I get some reps I gotta go back and rep some dudes...

Like dude who said something about the Outkast sample...:pimp:

Runaway...:pimp:

She Knows is so real, I come into contact with chicks and I know she knows...

I may have jumped to my conclusion to early.

Licensed I gotta rep ya post too.

These dudes that's saying the album is horrible , have no music taste at all

It's not a song you can skip on this album

I must say that I am very disappointed in this album myself, coming from a hardcore J Cole fan (not from NC either!).  Going back to the Warm Up, I thought everything he touched could turn to gold.  I'm fine with something sounding dark, but sounding bland is a different argument.  I agree with the other guys on here- where's the rise and shine, etc type songs??  Dude is known to put out some fire to get us all through workouts.

Is it just me, or is he bored with his tone of voice lately too?  I'm not expecting him to be a Meek Mill screamer, but it sounds like he's just mumbling over these beats (first time hearing power trip, I was like HUUH??)...    We need the same Cole that got him to this point- the looking for trouble, spitting fire, high energy, motivational Cole

Plus, if we look at it this way, the Truly Yours series has 3 parts, which is basically a whoooole nother album worth of material....even if Born Sinner isn't your thing, TY have all been fire so far and then 3rd one will be the deluxe bonus tracks so can't eem be mad at Jermaine for that :smokin

Didnt listen to it having expectations. Never was a huge J cole fan. Ive heard other projects of his but i wasnt going to compare this to anything, His older Mixtapes made me sleepy, but his guest features were always nice(beautiful bliss) didnt listen to the first album but I liked work out.

Listened to this and I like the whole project. I dig it. Some songs really hit home and I can "feel" what he's saying a lot of the time

See this is what's shocking.
People that dont even like Cole, people that barely even listen to him, love the project.
People who have been riding with Cole for years are disappointed...

I think that just goes to show that pre-determined expectations influence your overall experience of albums.
Especially when it's your favorite artist.

Since so many of us enjoy Cole so much more than other rappers, since we know his struggle and we know the soul hes capable of bringing to his songs by listening to the Warm Up... We set really high expectations for his albums, especially when he hypes it up himself.

Im not just calling others out, it happened to me too. Which is why although i give the album an 8.5 I was hoping for more of a 9.5/10.

When you're an unbiased music fan who listens to the album its obvious you have a much more enjoyable experience.
Rather than us stans, who expected a GKMC type classic album. We set ourselves up for being at least a little underwhelmed even before we clicked play. :smh:

I've listen to this album probably 8 - 10 times and it still feels as great or better than it did on the first listen.

Beats are very cohesive throughout the album

Lyrics are great/on point but could be unappreciated if not listened to.

I think people expected this album to feel like an "instant classic" after GKMC. Especially after all the press with the June 18th date.

Except this isn't GKMC. It's Born Sinner. It's is what it is though most people probably wanted something else or had different expectations.

^Funny, we both made posts referring to expectations at the same exact time. Mind Blown

Lol was just about to quote you.

Must be true tho.

Been thinking that for awhile now tho.

I'm usually swayed by NT opinions but I really enjoy this LP.

Thought that was the only logical reason why it was getting so much bad reviews from Cole fans.

I mean its not at all frequent that you get an instant classic like GKMC anyways.
