throughout early high school.

why put mixtape tracks on a album??!?! i dont wanna hear that "oh, he's trying to reach a new audience" talk. @%$% that! anybody's that's really interested in Cole, they will go back and dl his mixtapes for FREE!! it wont cost 'em anything. i just wish he put some actual new tracks in place of those "old" tracks. "Can't get enough" is trash and will not see my iPod. aside from that the album is solid, couldve been alot better if he did not put those mixtape tracks IMO. I wanted to cop the album but i dont know if I even want to now.
I used to feel that way too, but a good song is a good song. Lights Please basically introduced a lot of his early fans to J Cole. Nas dropped Halftime in '92 and still put it on Illmatic and it diminish the album at all. I feel the same way with Lights Please. It doesn't hurt the album at all, IMO.

Ok.. Ive been posting in this thread since pg 95 friday nights type hype. So i have to give me .02 cents for this album. I will order it just of the strength of the hussle this dude did to get here. However it is NOT A GREAT album.
Basically the story of the album, since all albums must follow a certain story, is dude met a girl (cant get enough, lights please, sideline story) he got rich and famous (mr nice watch) found out that the girl has a baby had an abortion and then the rest of the album is hyping himself up. Its like 4 tracks of just him talking about how nice his flow is. This is probably the lamest story line of an album possible. Someone mentioned the strength and creativity of college drop out or any other debut albums that must be solid from beginning to end with a certain theme. The theme of this album is really dissapointing.

Friday night lights theme was a lot more solid and more consistent.

Whatever dude did his thing im not hating but I definately appreciated the more conscious  Cole that came in this game with pure heat. Im not fickle or hating because he made it or he "grew" as an artist, rather that the growth was not in the direction that i hoped he would go.

The old tracks kind of bothered me, ive heard in the morning, who dat, and lights please millllions of times......i just skip them automatically when they come up

^ I always hated ppl trying to make an album tell a story as hard as they can after listening. I mean you trying to say "all albums must follow a certain story", name 5 songs and then say the story being told is lame instead of %#@@+#% realizing the album doesn't fall in to the category of telling a story from track to track. Like albums can't just have a theme. I guess I accredit/blame that on Lupe's two albums.

If you don't like the album just say so. Don't come with some lame excuse about the story being told is lame. This is obviously not some super detailed concept album or one that you have to look to each song to see what story it's telling.

Obviously i said i dont like the album man.
But yo its not about it telling a story. Its about the theme.. what are you trying to do? we ve been getting free mixtapes from you with the same layout of tracks so why wait all this time to come up with an album that has no concept. Yo rap is deeper than track to track on an album and this guy Cole knows this. Thats what bothers me. Thats just my opinion though man you can love the album and thats cool.

all that time to record and waiting to drop.the album coulda def been way more fire.

dolla and a dream 3 is pure heat

WTT wasn't that good to begin with, IMO, and this album was a 3 out of 5 for me. All in all, everything turned out better than expected.jpeg.
