[:: J. COLE THREAD | DREAMVILLE's ROTD3 ALBUM OUT NOW!! ::]

He really needs to keep his name buzzing through these breaks between albums, though. His buzz has damn near screeched to a halt since his first album, which did pretty well.

Word, I don't understand his philosophy behind this. Even if you're not dropping music, you could still at least let folk know you ain't dead.

I thought talkin about Cole and his "buzz" was deaded after the first album and he outsold ery other new rapper not name Drake n Nicki Minaj first week.

not saying he a household name or will even break 200k first week this time around but worrying about how much buzz he has shouldnt be that much of a hot topic to me

dude just needs better execution from beginning to end

The buzz has a lot of holding on how long he'll last. Part of the reason his album didn't drop on time has to be lack of buzz. If he keeps his name out there and his music playing, it's a lot easier to get a new single slotted on radio stations, thusly getting the album release engine going. If he had a hit single on the radio, I don't think he'd be taking this long to drop.

I'm on the outside looking in of course so who knows. But the dude has to be a little more active between albums. He shouldn't have to build up buzz to regain a following to in turn get a single going. Gotta be fresh in people's ears. I couldn't care less about how many people are talking about him, but getting a single going is step one of releasing an album, and that's a lot easier if you haven't been in hiding for almost two years.

PS. I bought 4 copies of the first album FWIW.

J.Cole's a pretty intelligent dude, so imo i think he knows EXACTLY what he's doing by going ghost and all that jazz.

but who knows, we'll just have to wait and see.

I agree that he needs to get his buzz up more than he's doing... I understand that he doesn't want to over saturate his music, but staying active on Twitter, doing vlogs, some interviews, a big feature here & there would all go a long way in building up for his next release.

^I chuckled when I read that because J. Cole is obviously far from being a "pop" star as his music is anything but "pop".

As far J. Cole and Buzz is concerned,

I am slightly concerned. I don't think at this point he will suffer from a lack a buzz, especially once his album campaign/rollout comes in full swing.

However, in this musical climate he is playing with fire. He basically hasn't dropped anything since the album with the exception of a few records. Drake has done the same thing not dropping anything individually since Take Care. However, unlike cole, he's on a lotttt of record that get spins on the radio daily, allowing his buzz to stay at a peak.

Cole doesn't do a lot of "impact" features, therefore its almost as if he doesn't do any. Combine that no individual tracks, you can see why there are concerns with his buzz. He's clearly not as big of a name as he was when Sideline Story came out. That'll probably change once the campaign gets into full swing, but as of right now he isn't. He won't flop or anything, but he probably won't get near the amount of records that he sold off the debut.

In a climate where frequency is of the highest value, he leaves a lot to be desired. Hell, he doesn't even do any social media  I'm sure there's a method behind all the quietness, hopefully its a method that doesn't bite him in the butt once he decides to be active again.

It’s time.

I appreciate you giving me the time I needed to grow, experiment, and find the direction for my 2nd album.. And I have.
Along the way I’ve recorded at least 4 albums worth of material, lots of it being unfinished demo versions waiting to be polished up, some of them are great songs and important stories that just won’t make the album (either they don’t fit Sonically, don’t fit Theme, or there’s just not enough space) .

Tonight, I want to give you a few of these songs because you deserve them. It’s hard as **** for me to keep all this music from you for so long, so I know it’s been hard for you to wait. Thank you for your patience. Vibe out to these songs in their raw form, no polish.. just a lot of my soul..

The wait is over.

Truly Yours,

Born Sinner

Truly Yours

PS- 1st single coming this week. The album is hands down my best work yet. Can’t wait to share.

Ughhh...I hate to be the debbie downer in the thread but....

I wasn't really feeling it. May need to listen through again though. I just get the sense that he's trying to be too "artistic" if you will, but unfortunately it's coming off as dry, or dare I say, boring? Seems as if the kid is in a tough spot right now. He doesn't want to sacrifice his "artistic integrity" by going "commercial" or "pop", but based off of his debut single (if you want to call it that) and now this ep, he may be running the risk of catching a brick if he doesn't have a strong single in the works......possibly one without him on the hook :rolleyes . None the less, I'm rooting for a successful sophomore album. I just hope he can find that balance.

Cole Motha ****** World.

I'm glad he's still alive and is still thinking about us.

I officially don't mind the wait now, because he obviously knows what he's doing.
Like the EP and cant wait for the album. :smokin :smokin

I seen the thread title and was like :wow: I know this dude aint drop an album last month and I had no clue cuz it had no buzz. Not surprised it got pushed back, might have to start expecting that for all his albums until/unless he reaches a new level of fame.

EP should be good but I'd prefer a mixtape if he has 4 albums worth of unreleased material. I mean damn.
