Alright, finally listened to Born Sinner. Pretty solid album. Cole can rap his *** off, but I thought some of the production could've been better. I like that he produces the majority of his own stuff, but I think even adding just 3-4 other producers beats could really put him over the top (maybe for his next album?). His beat tend to sound the same after awhile, cause they really don't pack that punch like Big KRIT's do. It's like something is missing from them or something. Still a good album though. Power Trip, Rich N'z, Chaining Day, Crooked Smile, Let Nas Down

Mo Money that should've been a regular song instead of an interlude. That beat is Just like Versus & Beach Is Better from MCHG, stop before it gets going

Recently there’s been a trend that includes rappers saying something
offensive, only to be attacked for it in the media and pressured to
apologize. I have to be completely honest and say there’s a part of me
that resents that. I view rap similar to how I view comedy. It’s going
to ruffle feathers at times. It’s going to go “too far”. I do not
believe that an apology is needed every time someone is offended,
especially when that apology is really only for the sake of saving an
endorsement or cleaning up bad press.

With that said, this is not the case today. This letter is sincere.
This apology IS necessary.

In a recent verse on the song “Jodeci Freestyle”, I said something
highly offensive to people with Autism. Last week, when I first saw a
comment from someone outraged about the lyric, I realized right away
that what I said was wrong. I was instantly embarrassed that I would
be ignorant enough say something so hurtful. What makes the crime
worse is that I should have known better.

To the entire Autism community who expressed outrage, I’m moved and
inspired by your passion, and I’m amazed at how strong you are as a
unit. I have now read stories online from parents about their
struggles and triumphs with raising an Autistic child and I admire how
incredibly strong you have to be to do so. It’s touching. It also
makes what I said even more embarrassing for me. I feel real shame.
You have every right to be angry.

To anyone suffering from Autism, either mildly or severely, I am
sorry. I’m bound to make mistakes in my life, but in my heart I just
want to spread Love.

I want to educate myself more on Autism, and I’ll gladly own my
mistake and serve as an example to today’s generation that there’s
nothing cool about mean-spirited comments about someone with Autism.
People with this disorder and their loved ones have to go through so
much already, the last thing they need is to hear something as
ignorant as what I said. I understand.

To the parents who are fighting through the frustrations that must
come with raising a child with severe autism, finding strength and
patience that they never knew they had; to the college student with
Asperger’s Syndrome; to all those overcoming Autism. You deserve
medals, not disrespect. I hope you accept my sincere apology.

Well there's certain things that should be off limits, like Rick Ross on UNENO like if you can't rap without saying stuff insinuating rape, and it's not in a sincere story type of song then yeah you probably need to apologize and aren't that talented to begin with. I haven't played Jodeci freestyle in a minute though so I can't remember which line he's talking about. Ill go check though

We're talking about hip-hop where numerous (not all) artist talk about murder and drugs, what exactly should be off limits? If you say rape then are you implying that rape is more important than murder? That's a whole different can of worms.

Cole's line was a play on words but people who don't listen to hip-hop wouldn't understand that and they don't care to which bugs me. If you think about it anybody can be offended by almost every rap lyric out there yet organizations pick and choose who they want to "confront" about it. I've seen worse in movies than I've heard in songs yet hip-hop stays getting attacked. Nothing wrong with Cole's apology but he has a helluva lot more to apologize for from other lyrics if that's the case.

I get what you're saying completely...I don't really like rap songs where people are talking about murdering others for no reason either though I think some artists like Eminem, well older Em, you kinda expect to hear vulgar and explosive lyrics that are meant to shock you a bit. I dunno if Cole needed to apologize for it though, I just don't think you can make songs like directly saying you took advantage of a girl on drugs, murdering people, etc. and not expect criticism to come your way. I don't think "rap culture" gives license to say anything in the simplest ways, certain things should be handled with more attention. I just view it like comedy in a way, there's great comedians who can touch subjects that are pretty uncomfortable for most and make it funny, and there's artists (any genre of music) who can make songs or lyrics about heavy stuff as well and it has a meaning. But on the other hand there's mediocre comedians and artists who can't do that without it coming off awkwardly or just sounding dumb. Cole is definitely in the former category though, and I don't think it should be some universal "line" but some stuff is obvious like the Ross example, that was just dumb. Even though the only reason he got dropped is bc he mentioned Reebok right before that

And I'd bet movies and other media with "negative" images do get attacked they just don't care or need to acknowledge it, bc honestly I would have never heard any of this uproar or anger had Cole not posted that in response. Rob zombie and Marilyn Manson were getting vilified back when columbine happened since that was the music those terrorists listened to...which I think is wrong and misplaced but that's a different argument. I can see how if people who have autistic family members bough would feel a certain way bc he says ******ed right after, and that has a certain stigma attached to it even though its VERY common term to hear and see, but like I said the line didn't shock me when I first heard it like UEONO did so I dunno if the full apology is required. I just took it as people didn't expect Cole to say that I guess, and maybe they hold him in a higher regard than some other artists. But I don't think it's that egregious but I can't begrudge people who have autistic family for feeling a certain way, I probably would too if I were in that situation. Nothing earth shattering though.

hiphop is a art form and in art everyone sets their own boundaries and beliefs. he clearly felt that he crossed his. and for that reason he apologized, I for one commend him for that.
