[:: J. COLE THREAD | DREAMVILLE's ROTD3 ALBUM OUT NOW!! ::]

What J. Cole is saying in "Fire Squad" wasn't a diss at Eminem, Justin Timberlake or Macklemore though. Although Iggy part, seemed more personal.

Em, JT & Macklemore are in a genre created by black men and women. That's the truth, no way around it. What Cole is saying is while all these rappers and singers are claiming "King," these 3 artists paid it no mind, made music, and took the sound for themselves.

"History repeats itself and that's just how it goes
Same way that these rappers bite each other's flows
Same thing that Elvis did with rock & roll"

He's saying that rap by nature is people copying off each other, and the extent goes back to Elvis, he took an art form that existed before him, and took it to new heights. And his tone is much different than say Chuck D when he spoke on Elvis. But to understand where J. Cole is going you need the next lines.

"Justin Timberlake, Eminem and Macklemore
While silly _ argue over who gone snatch the crown
Look around my __, white people have snatched the sound"

So while people bicker over who is king.... JT, Eminem & Macklemore just made music and made it their own.

My whole interpretation is he's not angry that white people have infiltrated hip hop, I don't think he really even cares. He's also not the guy who would even care anyway, you have to remember J. Cole is half white, and raised by his white mom. He's more so angry that all the people who are claiming King, are only talking about it, and not proving it. To go further, I think J. Cole is saying if all these self-proclaimed "Kings" cared so much about hip hop culture, why is it that the white artists are the only ones who seemed to just worry about the music, and not the ******** of having your chest puffed out

I'm white, since I guess that influences the perspective.

Im mixed like Cole, Moms is white like Cole, etc...

but Cole's point, whether valid or not is stupid (imo) because he included Em. Yes Em is white, and like has sales 10x more than he would have if he was Black, BUT, and A BIG BUT, Em will tear his A!! up, and is way more skilled than (IMO) every rap artist period. So you can "hide behind" the "im just playing" and then add a lot of truth is said in jest, but EM is better, so the point is moot.

Just like saying Tiger is only as big as he is due to being black...well yea, but he's also better than most...if not all.

I like Cole's music, big fan, but i really want Em to reply.

yeah Em being included was prob not the best.. but I get what he meant by it.. I'm certain Eminem probably knows more about the history of hip hop more than J.Cole and we all know hes a purist at heart.

In short, it brought distortion and noise rap elements into the mainstream. Thematically, it was Kanye's struggle in adapting to fatherhood and married life. It pushed boundaries with features, samples, and styles and succeeded.

Man stop tryna get deep. That album was trash

The things I said are just truth. The only subjective part is that that, IMO, he succeeded. "Trying to get deep" is the micro-analysis foolishness on RapGenius.

Dorky white dudes that dont even take a car to get from a to b.... sorry for the stereotype.

What does that have to do with ANYTHING?

Seriously bro?!? You never heard of the Car Test?

You put an album through the car test before you ever formulate an opinion on it. You see how it sounds when you are bending a few corners, when you have your ppl in the whip with you and you see if you gauge the audience.

A great album will have you ignoring however long of a commute you on. It will make you take the long way just so you can hear a verse or a beat breakdown.

Dudes be sitting in a cube with ear-buds surfing the net and then call themselves reviewing an album. They probably live in NY and take the train or walk down the street or sumtin having to watch their step and shoulders.

Is this a meme? seriously. The lyrics were shallow, the beats were just like you said, noise and distortion, and the album did not succeed. Cole outsold him.

I'm I reaching to say letterman wasnt that into it? Idk, just reading off his body language I didn't see him look at cole just that handshake.

Anyone with 2 eyes could see Letterman was blown away

He's always nice to guests and performers obviously, but I haven't seen him react like THAT to a rap performance before.

:smh: The verse from Letterman & even Knock the Hustle are better than any verse on the album IMO.

I know he has it, he's just hasn't delivered on the albums thus far. He's now 0-3 in my book. Another album that'll be out of rotation quickly.

However, I do like the direction he went in. This is the closest we've seen to the mixtapes. So if he stays down this path, which he should considering he's about to do 300+ first week, then his next album may be the one.

I don't think I've seen anyone outside of Carolina who enjoyed BS as much as you.

Excluding the Nas track, every other song on that project is forgettable. I still can't believe he didn't give Kendrick a verse, only the hook.

That's crazy man. I know a lot of people that **** with Born Sinner hard. That's a REALLY good album; way better than his first.

Say what you want about Cole, but he probably has one of if not the best most supportive fan bases as far as sales go. As much as I check for rap, I didn't know he had an album coming until two weeks ago. Seems like he didn't even have a legit single either, so those sales projections are fantastic.

Who do you listen to? I'm talking strictly hip hop wise...
