[:: J. COLE THREAD | DREAMVILLE's ROTD3 ALBUM OUT NOW!! ::]

That's more of parenting than rap music.I like club bangers as much as the next guy and summer jams. But can understand how the artist words can go to effect someone. Shoot I already posted what I thought to be "classic" albums. I just can't sit around and listen to them everyday. Some days I just want to listen to ignorance ****

Eminem and Action Bronson talk about wild things I'll never do. Just comes down to how open your mind is and what influence you/that person.
No. It's not a parenting thing, it's more of being a product of your environment thing. Like I said if you read my posts nobody wants to listen to conscious rap in the club including myself. I'm just saying the topics that are being put out on these songs are part of he problem. IDC if they aren't lyrical. Its just a record for the clubs, car and gym. How come pop music, country music, rock, and jazz doesn't include lyrics of throwing your money away, killing each other, dropping racks in the club etc. They're even getting our R&B slowly. R&B is done. You got Usher putting out songs about Not minding if the girl dances on the pole it doesn't make her a ho. Great! I'm pretty sure hundreds of girls instantly thought of becoming a stripper after that song.

I'm in love with the CoCo... c'mon man... C'mon... Just let one Pop artist drop a song talking about being in love with cocaine.

Good album that is disguised as a self proclaimed classic. Far from a classic.

He just doesn't have that quality about him that is genre defining. Kendrick had it. Drake had it. Kanye had it (as an artist.) Cole doesn't.

Exactly, how can a dude really believe meek made a million off the corner when theres footage of him in the hood looking bummy with nappy braids

Cant be this naive when it comes to rap music

Parenting and environment can still be the same problem depending on what view you are looking at. We are going in circles dude I said I dont want listen to Nas type song, you saying you dont want to listen to club hits all the time. I cant speak for others since I did not grow up in that type environment I used Em and Bam Bam as an example for their subject matter. Amy Winehouse talked about cocaine

But touche dude lets get back to talking about how great Cole is being towards hip hop at the end of the year. Hopefully this can be a wake up call for Lupe!

Not to sound like a douche. But if you didn't grow up in that type of environment your excluded from this discussion.

What?

I'm not getting where you're going with this.

Who said all these rappers are speaking the truth? Truth or false, they are still rapping about it.

You think Rick Ross was really a kingpin out in Miami too I bet? You must really think these rappers killed as many people as they claim they do in their songs. It's all BS.

-

These teenagers and young adults are looking up to the rappers. They aren't imitating their parents, they're imitating these rappers.

What does that say about the parents?

If a rapper you never met, never had a convo with, cant call up for advice is a role model to you then your parents failed

Simple as that

Rock music doesnt talk about killing?

Isn't r&b 90% about sex?
No it isn't about killing people. Take some time and google the top 40 Rock Songs right now and google the lyrics and see for yourself what the songs are about.

R&B is about making love, not having sex.

What should parents do? Kids aren't going out dressing like their parents. Just sayin....

making love & having sex arent synonyms now

Theirs nothing wrong trying to dress like your favorite rapper, but its the parents fault if these kids think "killing, throwing money away, dropping racks in the club etc." is cool just because a rapper is doing it

Cant blame todays rappers when theirs rappers before them that laid down this blueprint

Making love and having sex aren't the same thing. Do I really have to go into detail with this one? Seriously.

How is their nothing wrong with trying to dress like your favorite rapper? OK lets buy 1000 Designer shoes, 1500 jeans, 400 hat, 500 shirt, 800 sweater, 5000 jacket, 20k chain, 20k watch, 1k ring. Do you know how many kids their are saving their paychecks just to cop some Margielas and wear it to the club just because their favorite rapper wore it? Going broke over nothing, wasting money over nothing. This is part of the problem. Rappers trying to make these young adults/kids/teenagers think they need this stuff when in reality they don't. But it's all the rappers talk about which is part of the problem. YOUR CLEARLY NOT GETTING WHERE I'M GOING WITH THIS.

It's not the parents fault. Most of these kids who are doing the killings are usually out on the streets all day. Mom can't do anything about it. Let's not forget the amount of single parents that exist. No kids are throwing away money and dropping racks. These are young adults doing it, parents aren't telling them what to do at certain ages.

You can't blame today's rappers? True on some levels. It's not entirely their fauly. It's the people behind it all fault. They are the ones who are killing HIP HOP and R&B and are the ones who are trying to keep us down and keep the cycle going. It will never stop unless the rappers stop selling out and giving them the music  they want them to put out.

THANK YOU SCARFACE! Hit it right on the head. J Cole hit it on the head too in the Angie interview.

Folks don't realize how things can get coded into the sub conscious

The biggest issue that I have is very few artists show two sides to a story. You cookin up all this dope and in the streets but you don't talk about your friends dying, going to jail, your mother being ashamed of you, getting robbed, your girl leaving. Like the reality of what REALLY goes on. Got cats put here thinking everything's easy and its all fun times and smashing ****... noooo.

I'm just tired of these one dimensional *** rappers that spit nothing but negativity. Got dudes out here like Meek who can't even make a decent record about women,.

That's why we gotta support dudes like Kendrick, Cole, Krit, and Wale. Even if you don't like all of their music at least they're trying to keep hip-hop alive, if they fall off I don't know where it'll go.

This is why you can't have this conversation with everyone. There are people who have ZERO knowledge of the actual science behind a lot of this ****. They don't understand how frequencies, soundwaves, how the brain works, etc. You can't see what you don't have the eyes to see.

Little Jermaine from the south..... 910 :smokin
I remember when he did a little show at a club in Greensboro my freshman year and now this.

Rap began imitating Life and still does. It's just a cycle so we can go in circles about why stuff is the way it is. On a personal level the kids who are even allowed to mimic their favorite rapper have other factors in their lives like parents who allow this and a brain that perceives rappers as role models. Changing what's in textbooks, introducing new careers and norms in the Black community, and putting a premium on psychological understanding in the Black community is what's needed. 100 rappers like Cole is illogical, impossible, and not necessary. Also, kids who sell drugs are doing so because they are broke and somebody around them made it seem cool. Rap songs are the theme music. Yes, music has become a major influence, but if taking away free speech is how you think we can better the Black experience you're off base. We have to change things about the Black culture as a whole starting with real life issues. Circulating wealth, stronger infrastructures and knowledge through the Black community will cause music to change and change how the youth respond to it. In the meantime. The more rappers taking a stand the better, but trying to erase Meek and Ross music is a waste of time and effort.

It's called balance. It existed before.  When you have the MAJORITY of popular music promoting the same negative agendas...how is that not a HUGE problem? How did it happen? Why the sudden switch? The same problems we're facing today...we faced back when the music served a different purpose...so why does the record industry just SUDDENLY decide to undo all of that and promote the opposite agenda?

You really think that just happened organically?

You must not have read what I said. I didn't say it's not a problem. Focusing on the things I said will make the music change. The music got this way for a reason. The root isn't the music. It is psychological conditioning, allocation of wealth, And a premium on historical knowledge. And no we're not facing the exact same problems because time has gone on. New factors are in play. We still face racism. But it's different. We still face oppression, but it's different. The music reflects life. always has. always will. Blacks have gotten comfortable in our condition, as a whole. The music reflects that. We think we made it. And how did we make it? Glorifying struggle. To the point now everything associated with struggle is cool. Hustling out of abandoned buildings, killing enemies, doing drugs to suppress the pain, etc. We must, as a whole, realize we have a long way to go. The climate must change.....then the music will change. That is my point.

My take, and this is just my take on this...

The Ratchet / trap wave of rappers caught fire the last 3 years or so. When you talk about the sound that's dominating the radio, and youth culture, you think of The ratchet DJ Mustard produced records, you think of Shmruda, Trinidad, Chief Keef, Lil Herb, Lil Bibby, etc.

I say that to say that the sudden switch you alluded to happened due to the fact that people looking for ways to pop man. And they are also looking for the easy way out. You see guys like Smhruda and keef with no real ability to rap making money and gaining some notoriety from what it is they are doing. These guys aren't educated. These guys don't have any real goals in their life. They lucked up with their homies who had a home studio went in there and said the easiest **** that came to mind and its caught fire. These guys aren't talented, but we as a culture are promoting and giving attention to all these talentless guys who only rap about killing and shooting and violence, and as a result you get a bunch of people who copy it. Why? Because there's no real effort into the "music." Come on man, wtf is "I'm in love with the coco?" Really? Seriously? That's talent?

This is why we celebrate a drake, a kendrick, a cole, a wale, etc. because you don't see people able to duplicate what it is that they do. They actually have talent. They actually can "rap." So when you hear someone like the aforementioned, you celebrate them. Even if you don't like those guys, I feel like you can recognize the legit talent and effort that goes into their brand of music. There's diversity. There's real musicality to what it is they are doing.

So you see a multitude of the Bobby's and keef's and herbs' and bibby's and migos because it's easier. It doesn't take much effort. Unfortunately, it's easier to talk and make some simple catchy **** about violence than it is about real life and that's why you see our culture plagued with so much BS.

Just IMO
