[:: J. COLE THREAD | DREAMVILLE's ROTD3 ALBUM OUT NOW!! ::]

Anybody got the current numbers on Born Sinner? I'm deep into a BS/Yeezus debate and they just drop the Platinum card on me. I'm trying to see where it sits. RIAA still says gold but I'm curious to see how close it might/might not be.

There was also a point where Yeezus was offered for free on Google play, so Idk how many of those counted towards the sales. Born Sinner is at like 700-800K I think.

If you're having a BS/Yeezus debate and they mention sales then stop debating, you're wasting your time and it's not even about the music anymore.

IDK how you can even debate Born SInner/Yeezus, they are two entirely different albums.

Cole need to worry about making his own **** pop before trying to push his team.

Also, he'll be in DC tomorrow at DAR Constitutional Hall. Anyone going?

When is this myth gonna stop with this dude already... The ***** outsold every rapper not named Jay, Em, & Kendrick]

He's CONSTANTLY on the radio and he's known as one of the nicest out what else does he need to do to "pop"

What is Cole talking about "outselling Yeezus"?! Oh he mean after the first week? Well, how long did that last? "Yeezus" is platinum.

Why should album sales matter if you're debating which one is better? mean.gif

It's hard to explain how we got here, but take my word for it, this isn't a petty debate. The sales came up as a part of the argument that in order for something to be truly great, it has to be observed in a large arena. It's sort of like saying that Earl Manigault was the greatest basketball player of all time, but by not playing in the NBA he can't really be considered the greatest, you know what I mean?

So Yeezus comes out, I hate it. He loves it. I tell him beyond the production and I'm In it, Bound2 and Blood On The Leaves, it doesn't do it for me. J. Cole's album begins to pick up steam, Power Trip cooks, then Crooked Smile does what it's doing. Yeezy's singles bubble in the underground, Bound2 is getting some airplay but is still losing to She Knows. I make the argument that Cole's album is picking up steam and Yeezus is fading away and then BAM!, Yeezus Platinum, RIAA certified, and Born Sinner is still gold. He tells me that critically Yeezus is cleaning up but I don't really know anybody that is playing it like that. I'm just curious to see where Cole was in comparison. Believe it or not, it goes beyond just sales.

Man. I've been a huge Cole fan since I first heard the Warm Up in 09. Saw in perform at a small local venue in 2010, saw him two more times after that. All shows have been great, but that first show was truly special and one of my favorite shows I've been to.

With that being said I've been a Kanye fan since I first heard the Jesus Walks snippet in 2003. I've also seen Kanye a decent amount of times.

Kanye is performing in stadiums, when I saw Cole in 2010, he couldn't even fill a 1500 person venue halfway, but it didnt take away from the performance one bit. So I'm not sure about the thing about having to be observed in a large arena. It was more impressive to me to see Cole show out for a small venue that was barely halfway full. That's gotta be disappointing as a performer and he still killed it.

I stick behind what I said though, you really can't compare the albums in anyway.

I'm probably one of the few people that LOVES Yeezus front to back. I still rock out to it at the gym almost every time I go, and Black SKinhead, I Am A God, New Slaves, Im In It, and Blood on The Leaves are all go to treadmill tracks.

I couldn't tell you the last time I listened to Born Sinner.

Rap wise and lyrically, Born Sinner poops all over Yeezus. But to me from a replay value and a production sense, Yeezus is by far the superior album.

I still don't think it's a good comparison, as they are entirely different albums, entirely different musicians, and at entirely different points in their career. The only thing the two albums have in common is that they dropped on the same day.

Now if we were to compare Born Sinner to Hall of Fame or The Gifted, it'd make more sense IMO. And Born Sinner is >>> both of those.

Na son Gifted was fire compared to Born Sinner. Just like with the original Crooked Smile Cole never delivers on his Album(album is ok just not great). Still waiting on a Friday Night Lights type album....Shoot even the Warm Up. Cole be crushing some of his features on other dudes tracks. Just can not take BS serious and Album about nothing is going turn heads.

Was Gifted that good? I gotta be honest, I never really tried to listen to it. I was once a pretty big Wale fan, but I lost a lot of faith in him and kinda stopped paying attention.

This. I was a big Wale fan but most stuff he puts out now is trash.

But the question is have you listen to The Gifted.....Ambition was good for the first 7-8 tracks then falls off.

The Gifted wasn't all that but wale had a few tracks, BS is way better and sounds a lot more natural from the artist. The whole BS/Yeezus thing is a pointless argument especially when people are going to give Ye the nod because he's Ye but disguise it as his album being better.

I will give BS some more spins over the weekend to see if it can change my mind. I was so hype during the summer to be let down.
