and can we forget "who dat" even exists aint like its even making the album so we shouldnt count that as a single anymore lol

Yo I totally hear you on your points regarding popularity before and album drops and understand your perspective on the situation.  Idk but I think if Cole dropped today he would do solid #'s.  Of course a major single would help his sales and I understand that as a fan of his music I think he is an artists who gets making a quality album and I guess I don't want to see that compromised by him chasing radio spins.

I am sure someone will argue that if he doesn't have a single that "everyone" is listening to then his album will never come out.  However, I necessarily do not believe that to be true.

I am a fan of plenty of artists that I support who will never do major numbers and I along with many other fans don't care at all.  We support them and will continue to support them because they make quality music. Why do I care if my favorite artists sell a ton of units but the album isn't full of quality music?! As a fan that situation does nothing for me.

And the problem with society is everyone has no patience or acceptance for artists development.  J. Cole has dropped 3 mixtapes which I am pretty sure is the same amount of mixtapes Drake had out before he dropped.  I would like to see dude drop his debut this year but its not like he has not put in the work/time other recent successful rappers have done.  The whole talk about J. Cole will never drop is quite premature and absurd.

wasted potential
He really is never going to drop its looking like.

Yall dudes are delusional in here. I remember when dudes in here thought he was going to drop after Friday Night Lights or that wack single he put out. Its now about to be Spring in 2011.

Roc Nation doesnt want to lose money putting this ___ out. Son is not going to drop (i dont think) and eventually he will leave the label. Its as simple as that.

What's even funnier is his music ain't no where close to Cole's level, so if Cole is average, I guess he would be terrible

Ace I agree with you about a fanbase is important and I agree with you 100% about longevity but this guy just doesn't get it.  Its not making excuses for Cole at all but sadly the majority of today's music fans expect instant results and overnight success'.  Apparently if you do not produce a hit single within a short period of time you are a failure as an artist.....that logic is just simply ridiculous.
I believe Cole is developing nicely as an artist and I am glad he is not a gimmick rapper and wants to put out an album that will capture the hearts of hip-hop fans.

My dude, When is his expected release though? Saying everything but that
laugh.gif
. Now "Who Dat" was never nothing?
laugh.gif
They put money in that record AND the video?. Talking bout it was never nothing

Please dont compare BoB to J.Cole. Actually dont ever even put em inthe same sentence. BoB actually got some type of mainstream appeal andcan make records work. J.Cole? Hell Nah. BoB has fans. Yall ___'sletting a NT message board dictate who has fans and a fanbase?
laugh.gif
.Go outside fam.  I Told you this before...i love sons music anddedication but yall just tainting the reality. Snap backinto reality b. BoB, Wale, AND Sean actually have ###$ popping thisyear so far. What about Cole? Exactly... Sean just got a single with ChrisBrown, Wale is making even better music with MMG and the hottest rapper out, BoB already gotplaques and will be getting more.

Cole? my dude is sitting on the shelf and no release date, no songs remotely hot, or any singles that are remotely poppin
laugh.gif
. yall talking bout building a fanbase. How? Theres no anticipation. Where are his SONGS. He's the most stale out the whole bunch. Its not evenabout being a gimmick. Son just is boring and struggles at making songs, his songwriting sucks...(Onceagain I like J.Cole and i hope he does do his thing).

Like i asked before. When is his expected release? answer that then ill shut up...

^Knowing when his expected release date is proves NOTHING at all. Sadly your not able to comprehend that. And why does J. Cole have to have mainstream appeal to be "successful"?! There are plenty of artist who are successful and have a hardcore fanbase without having commercial appeal?

And J. Cole struggles at song making?! I would love to know who (young rappers) is better at that because all the artists you mentioned even some of whom I actually like are nowhere close to Cole when it comes to song structure. One thing I have always given credit to Cole which is better than any young rapper I have seen is that he knows how to make a damn song.

His expected release says a lot. How we supposed to support when he is never dropping
laugh.gif
. I never said he had to have mainstream appeal.  All im saying is he needs to turn it up... boring *@# flow, predicable, songs suck, singles suck....

I dont care about a hot 16/24 here and there, college loans and more boring stuff. Where are the songs? Cuz the current ones are poor as hell. Point me in the direction of those songs with that "crazy" song structure your talking about since you cant give me an "expected" release date..other then that im not responding back

If I or anyone says Cole's expected release date is tomorrow what does that prove?!
laugh.gif
 It proves absolutely nothing.
What you don't realize is that I am actually the same kind of hip-hop listener.  I can care less about just being able to spit but more about the ability to make good songs.
All J. Cole can do is rap and not make good songs huh?! What have you been listening to?! Only his freestyles?!

First of let me define what is a good song:

A good song = Good lyrics structured in multiple verses that are coherent along with a solid hook/chorus with a theme that follows or is repeated throughout the song.

Examples from J. Cole that fit this definition:

Lights Please

Loosing My Balance

Loves Me Not

I Get Up

Dollar & A Dream 2

Enchanted

Higher

Blow Up

It Won't Be Long

Premediated Murder

Home For The Holidays

In The Morning

Can I Live

Hold It Down

I am sure those who know good music and appreciate good song writing and structure would agree that all of those songs fit that definition.

You point about not knowing an expected release date says a lot is nonsensical! Nobody knew Drakes release date after his third mixtape......until it was announced.  Now dude was in a different situation with Cash Money and it is what it is but the problem with listeners like you is you expect everyone to "blow up" with the same formula.  There is not one blueprint to success smh.

But according to you J. Cole's flow is boring (why are you in this thread?), predictable (oh really so you know what the subject matter of every song he releases is going to be about??),  and songs/singls suck (again why are you in this thread?).

Now that I have pointed in the direction of the songs of Cole's that have song structure take the hate out of your heart and wax out of your ears and re-listen before you respond back with more foolishness.

Saying J. Cole doesn't have good song structure proves you don't listen to his music. He can definitely improve in that area but just labeling him a rapper who just raps n raps shows a clear lack of knowledge on his music.

Especially if you putting Big Sean in the discussion.

No I don't get it, If Dreams, lights please, Loosing your balance, it won't be long, blow up, home for the holidays, aren't songs, then what is?

j cole got tons of 'songs' that i bump repeatedly.....it dont even matter to me if he doesnt have an album out, these songs are good to me.

ive seen him live a few times too, crowd seems to agree.

Son had that first single which was subpar "Who Dat". Dont nobody wanna hear that in the clubs and im a J.Cole fan. Yall just not being realistic...
why do u keep talking bout "who dat" tho
laugh.gif
...the isssh was never nutin. if u peep one of his interviews he said he went with the first song that was semi-melodic cuz the label needed sum to push why they booked him radio interviews....let it go man.
and where are the excuses my dude??....BoB had a number 1 song! Has a gold album due to humongous Pop songs ...now please tell where are all the BoB fans? Where are the ppl anticipating or caring about anything he workin on? Ill wait... same wit Wale, Big Sean any1?...expected release date my $%$, if u aint got no fans.

im sayin...if Cole was to make this "hit" song that erybody loves it still wouldnt mean isssh far as longevity goes if ppl only care about that one song....if he can get loyal fans outside of the 13 of us than thats more meaningful...i believe those songs will come tho to capture the average casual fan ear, at least I hope

a fanbase is important especially when u aint no gimmick rapper in the times of gimmick rap.

When is his expected release? answer that then ill shut up...
also, whats funny about this is that Wale opens up for J Cole on tour.
laugh.gif

I think Friday Night Lights may be my favorite mixtape from him. On the first several plays, I didn't see myself liking it this much. I still believe the previous two were better, though.

Are you serious? All them dudes mentioned make better songs then him. J.Coles hooks SUCKKKK too. You sounding stupid again
laugh.gif
. Like i said numerous times im a J.Cole fan to the extreme but im not going to sit here and act like he's not lacking a ton of stuff. You just sound like he can do no wrong. Get ya mind right...

You really said Cole has strong song structure? PLEASE give me these songs
roll.gif
. All he can do is rap. Outta ALL those dudes he has the worst when it comes to young rappers, Drake, Wiz, and even Sean have better ones. Lets be real... which comes to why he aint drop SINCE.

Point me in the direction of those songs with that "crazy" song structure your talking about since you cant give me an "expected" release date..other then that im not responding back
laugh.gif

Now that I have pointed in the direction of the songs of Cole's that have song structure take the hate out of your heart and wax out of your ears and re-listen before you respond back with more foolishness.

laugh.gif
  if you only knew...

Why am I in this thread? Son did you not see me say I am a huge fan but im not going to front like son isnt boring and stale nowadays? I said it MANY times. Did you read through my post or did you just read over those parts. Did you not see me say that im a fan?

You act like I think he sucks or Im A Lil B fan. No... J.Cole songs just suck and his hooks do too..PERIOD (as of late). Son just aint been exciting and needs to turn it up....point blank... everyone mentioned has been putting out better MUSIC then him and im not even a fan of a lot of those guys. Dont act like they havent...if you believe that your just a stan.

His songwriting hasnt got any better. Maybe his album (whenever/if that ever drops) or his next mixtape will and then I will rejoice and be happy. As of NOW though nah his hooks and songs suck...He got a few gems here and there.

laugh.gif
@ you making it out to be like im a J.Cole hater. Stop the nonsense, his next mixtape I will anticipate and download AS SOON as it comes out...i just aint going to sit here and act like everything is cool though with his music...Thats what stans do. Not fans...

Im sorry for the rant, maybe im just putting too much hope in him to be a game changer... Maybe i should stop. At least Nas had style with it.
