Can someone explain to me why albums leak right before they come out? I know it happens with about every release but what's the reasoning behind it?

Once a physical copy is made and shipped, someone gets a hold of one. Or somebody in their camp can leak it to build up hype. At least this is what i've always heard

I was thinking this but I would think ya would lose some sales because of people can just listen to what leaked instead of buying it
