That word gets tossed around alot undeservingly so in most cases.  If you can listen to this album 10 to 15 years from now then I will give you huge props for calling it a classic album.

I can't believe this guy went over my head like that.

"She said she only messed with like 4 or 5 dude so you know you to got multiply by 3

Thinking it was a funny line. Til I realized it was the numbers to a perfect triangle.

Why do people hate pop music?
I dont get it. Pop = Popular.

I mean if it sounds good and still has a message then I don't see why we should hate.

Dreary music doesn't have to equate to good music. I hate that rap fans always think that way.
Pump the brakes.  I'm a big Cole fan, just sayin' I usually don't dig songs that sound like this.

I, and probably other fans out there, don't "hate" pop music. It's just not what I enjoy listening to from Cole.
You WILL catch me in the whip bumpin' "pop" music all the time, but Can't Get Enough isn't my ideal Cole song. But its DOPE.

I look to dude for the deeper stuff, because I think he can do that better than a lot of people in the game right now.

So illmatic and  Ready to Die weren't deemed classics until 10-15 years later?

Wouldn't say it took that long, but in that time when those albums were released people just appreciated the albums and wasn't concerned with it being a classic.  Those albums are timeless with great production as well lyrical content.   I think Cole album is solid mos def, but I wouldn't say a classic.  Can't knock you for your opinion though.

I feel you, but your response makes me wonder how soon people realize a album is a classic. With Food&Liquor it was quick, one of my favorite albums ever, and a lot of people here also.

When Illmatic and Ready to Die dropped people already were saying those albums were classic. Illmatic had The Source stamp of approval and you could not get away from Ready to Die.

Do not ever again compare Cole World to Illmatic or Ready to Die....

Wait did you just compare this album to Illmatic and Ready To Die?

F&L aint a classic. It's close to it as far as debut albums on the cusp of that level but I can't honestly say CW is the closest to it since that dropped.

To me F&L being classic is arguable, the same way ppl want to argue Late Registration is. I aint gonna go hard on those albums not being classic, I just say they're close to it. Great albums I just don't give it the classic stamp.

I agree, thus I have album at 8.5......I bet if it was our first time hearing Lights Please and In the Morning, reactions wouldn't be so mixed....I'm happy with it and will continue to bump it, I have feeling his next album will be something special, now since he doesn't have to worry about getting a buzz

As for "perfect" songs I'd take out Dollar & A Dream 3 for God's Gift.

Are you ranking dope songs over good/great songs? Cuz if so I'd bump Lost Ones in to that category and Cheer Up.

As for the old songs I had to remove them (except Lights Please). My version ends with Daddy's Little Girl and it's a good song but I don't like it as much. I'm happy my version doesn't have Who Dat cuz I would've been genuinely mad. Workout and Mr. Nice Watch have become extra average for me over time.

Not a bad grouping though. Looking at it at this point it probably comes down to how ppl personally feel so I can't really begrudge you anything the way you see it.

Here's my opinions about each song(not including Lights Please and In the Morning):
8.5-10/10:

Dollar and a Dream III

Cole World

Lost Ones

Nobody's Perfect

Rise and Shine

7-8.5/10:

God's Gift

Mr. Nice Watch

Sideline Story

Breakdown

Never Told

6-7/10:

Can't get enough

Work Out

With that out of the way, there are no songs in this album that I find myself wanting to skip. You can't say that about most albums, period. Also, even though the production on some tracks may seem lacking, I find that they go well with the songs he paired them with. If you do find his production lacking though, than J.Cole is not for you, because he has the same type of beats(the ones you might find lacking) in his mixtapes; it's the sound hes always had. The only complaints I have is he did take a step back in lyricism on some songs, but, it's not drastic enough to even dismiss the songs altogether, let alone the album. In my opinion, some of the songs needed a relaxed flow and laid-back lyrics to it.

I give the album a 9/10 overall.

Yeah im ranking dope songs over good/great. dope songs I figure are songs i can pop open itunes and throw on if im having a lil shindig or sumtin or just tryin to throw on sumtin roun the crib and dont feel like playing the whole album.
I can certainly see someone saying lost ones is dope and it honestly is, I dont have a problem with it. but sitting with the album for two weeks and my girl telling me to run it back constantly and her rapping the words verbatim to the 2nd verse...im like enough already

I was never crazy about Lights Please tho I mean i appreciate the song and it not bad at all but it didnt age well for me.

@JayElectronica

this man is telling His True Life Story. Not entertaining w false realities & the masterful art of lying on the mic and calling it rap.

@JayElectronica

sit w the Album from intro to end at least once, and Put Yourself In His Shoes as You Listen. I promise You Will Hear & Feel It differently.

@JayElectronica

if you disagree with me here, It don't matter cause we talking about rap. and I'm better than you anyway. Period. #ColeWorld
Now think about how he mentions top 5 at the end of the verse. Pay CLOSE attention to how he switches his flows drastically prior to saying that. This kid is NICE
