[:: J. COLE THREAD | DREAMVILLE's ROTD3 ALBUM OUT NOW!! ::]

J cole album droping the same day as kanye is. A great promotion, I sense a j cole upset over kanye.

You don't actually believe what you're saying are you? As much as I want Cole to push albums, I can't see him doing big numbers soon especially with Born Sinners.

Cole's gonna do over 300,000 this time, but Ye will still get the number 1 spot.. Yeezus has all the hype in the world right now, it'll do at least 400,000 the 1st week.

You think 300,000?

That's a stretch...but I'm rooting for the upset.

Kanye is

I actually think he'll do these type #'s too. First album sold 218K first week with Workout as a single. Cole has a very solid and loyal fan base that will support him no matter what(myself included). I also think Cole moving his release up to Kanye's was the smartest thing he could've done.

Power Trip is the #1 Song on Rhythmic Radio.
Also #1 in Rap Airplay. :nthat:

It's stagnant and kinda declining on the Hot 100 because the digital sales are pretty bad.
It got GOLD last week which is great, but sales have declined a lot on iTunes since it went Gold.
If it was selling a little better the single would of been moved up towards Top 10.

They said they arent in a rush to put a 2nd single out because Power Trip is still climbing the Rap Charts...which is stupid.
Rap fans know the song by now, they know the album is coming.

The casual music fan doesn't, hence the declining iTunes sales...the project needs more promotion. It needs another single...

I feel like they are slight-weight dropping the ball with the promo. Cole should be on LETTERMAN/LENO/KIMMEL performing Power Trip every night this week...bumping up those digital sales and the awareness of the Album. This project is going to be 100x better than Sideline Story, you can just tell by the improvements he's already made in his single. So to not bring enough attention to this album especially when the music content will be vastly better than his last album is an inexcusable IMO.

I know hes flying around the world performing and promoting his own way, but he needs to stop being stubborn and do a little regular self-promotion on television. He needs to stop being stubborn and let Jay promote for him a little. Enough of this "I wanna do it on my own" type steez...like you said, if you dont sell well you can very well be dropped by the Label. So even though we respect the independence, you need a little damn help to keep your career going. :rolleyes

Y'all gotta chill. Promotion is coming. He has an interview with Elliott Wilson tonight. I'm sure more info on the album will be out.

I know about that interview.
And yeah we're going to get plenty of more info.

But who is that info going to reach? Only the people who are actually searching for j.Cole information.

The point is, if he wants to reach new fans and people who dont know much about cole...the promotion needs to step up to beyond interviews with a guy that most casual people dont even know.

Don't understand what the fascination with this sales battle is. Kanye is winning the numbers hands down, whether you despise his new music or not. It doesn't mean a lick. Doesn't mean his album will be better or you'll like it better. Kanye just has an established following of stans, media attention, reality appearances - his albums are always going to be more of an "event" regardless of the quality.

I don't care about beating Kanye. I just want my favorite artists to be successful enough to continue their career and give us music for years to come.

I think I hopped off the bandwagon of nitpicking Cole and his moves.

The facts remain that he is one of the biggest new rappers on the scene far as sales go...only be out sold by Drake Nicki and Kendrick. He has a solid fanbase which is pretty evident and hopefully that puts him back in that 200k range first week. Couple that with the Ye release and he may definitely reach that 300k threshold.

Personally, I think the most important thing is the quality of album. I'd rather ppl be talking about how good the album is in comparison to Kanye's as oppose to how Cole came up short by X amount. I don't want that to be a distraction.

Content > Numbers at the end of the day

Kanye > Cole on numbers

but...

Cole > Kanye on Content?

I'll believe that last one when I hear it but its going to be hard to have both of these albums heavy in the rotation at the same damb time.

Seriously....it's not that serious. I just want dude to make a good album.

I feel the same way but I understand peoples concern about "no sales = no content". With that being said I think Cole will at least match the numbers he had from his first album so I am not worried as some others may be.

I have liked what Cole has done as far as marketing for this album but I can't disagree that Licensed to Ball raises some fair points here.

yup I do you saw the numbers wtt did with jay n ye people are going to go with content over hype, kanye doesn't have that mainstream hit he usually has and as much as kanye been my top 3 favorite artist of the last 10 years j cole and kendrick are running hip hop now.

That's the reason why album sales are important. No sales = no music
it not so much no sales no music its no sales no great album music, if kendrick didn't do his numbers the label defiantly would've filled the next album with whoever hot at the time over content.

no guest rappers.

no guest rappers.

He also said a rappers voice will appear on a song, but he won't be rapping. That voice could very well be Kendrick's.
I'm pretty sure the tracklist is fake though, because Cole said he produced the entire album himself.
