.

its sad cause he gave a lot of kids hope. Yet, hes just another example of why players shouldnt play professionally until they are FULLY prepared (this goes for both football and basketball to me).

it's quite the opposite if he had gone overseas he would've gotten better training and developed alot faster, his biggest mistake was going to the MLS ....... and as predicted is starting to show now

he could have gone overseas and gotten better training without playing professionally, there is an amazing amount of academies and programs that he could ofjoined and benefited from.. he played for the united academy for less then a month, but sir alex didnt see any long term potential in him so he didnt getsigned.

Donovan overhyped? You know nothing about the USMNT if you think Donovan is overhyped. He is easily the most important player to the team. Please tell me you were joking
nerd.gif

First off, relax... secondly, He is a good player and important to our team, yes... but after the '02 Cup he was hyped like God and thus farhas not lived up to it. He has been a good player for us, but nothing what he was hyped to be. He went ghost in the '06 Cup also.

"I think so, he's only young but we have known of him for a long time. We tried to get him here some years ago but he signed for DC United and thatstopped the progress of us keeping tabs on him."
-Sir Alex Ferguson, on the possibility of signing Adu

smh.gif
sir alex would of turned him into a class player, imagine how much he would of learnt from all the united players in the 04-05 squad (ruud, young rooney +ronaldo, etc)

yeah it truly is a shame ...... I remember when all the hype started with him going to the MLS, all the ol football heads were saying this wasone of the biggest mistakes he could've made career wise

yeah... remember this commercial? I didn't know anything about him at the time, but after seeing this commercial, I was expecting big thingsfrom him... now he's nowhere to be seen... overhyped is right.

Donovan was good State-side...but when he came to EU he was

...funny on how I was going to make a thread about Adu yesterday.

i still have faith in him and just waiting for him to get his shot on the U.S. team...I swear if he doesnt start in the gold cup, and some bum like connor doesim going to send 1000 email to bob bradley and 10 packages of gorrilla poo.

I could be mistaken and I hope I am but I don't remember seeing Freddy on the Gold Cup roster. I'm too lazy to go look but I really dohope I'm wrong because he DESPERATELY needs the run.

he made the preliminary roster..here it is..although it needs to be cut down to 23.
Goalkeepers: Brad Guzan, Marcus Hahnemann, Troy Perkins, Luis Robles
Defense: Jonathan Bornstein, Danny Califf, Steve Cherundolo, Jay DeMerit, Clarence Goodson, Eric Lichaj, Chad Marshall, Michael Orozco, Michael Parkhurst,Heath Pearce, Marvell Wynne

Freddy highlights vs. Spain senior national team

He may not be a world class player but he can still be very good for the US. Too bad he's in Bob's doghouse.

freddy's on the confederations cup squad and has been called up to the men's national team regularly now. however, he hasn't been getting muchtime on the field.

bob bradley says it's because he's not playing at all for his club, which is understandable. however, it's not like jozy was at villareal/xerxes oreven benny at derby. BB has also mentioned that freddy needs to help out on defense more, which is true.

he played at benfica two seasons ago and actually did well. he started some, scored some, provided some assists. but he was on a veteran team that was tryingto win games so eventually he got lost in the shuffle.

last season at monaco was just a disaster. he practically only played in a handful of games. i wanna say that the manager that signed him was eventually firedor resigned. i can't remember exactly. but he never played. and it sucked because that team was just a really bad team. and the guy in front of him, parkchu young, is a forward that can't score.

there's still hope in him. he's not the "savior" many wanted/expected him to be. but a lot of MNT supporters and fans are still rooting forhim and hoping he'll play a big part in the future.

i think he'll still be on the squad in 2010. but landon and clint locking down the wide midfield positions, i dunno where you can really play him otherthan as a support striker, which i think he can do well as. but jozy and charlie davies are looking like they may develop a decent partnership up front.

Him and Jozy did work at the U20 world cup. He had a hat trick if im not mistaken.. Beating Brazil

I think he just needs some burn. He's a good player.

Here's what he posted 2 hours ago on twitter. "as of now im going to preseason with benfica unless something changes.could be spain, holland, adifferent country or staying at Benfica."

IYE2, you're right. he and jozy did hook up well at the u20's. freddy was outstanding in the brazil game. i remember thinking he out-braziledbrazil.

before he went to benfica, i was hoping he'd go to holland since they have a reputation of developing young players. i forgot he was loaned to monaco. idunno if benfica really even wants him back. the loan deal seemed like they were practically begging monaco to buy him outright.

you even follow US Soccer? benny was released from derby county last year after they were relegated. he currently plays in denmark with AGF. hewas sidelined for a while with a knee injury. he has come back and has played well coming in as a sub

Zizou's post sounded like an outdated Wikipedia entry.

At this point Freddy is good as a spark off the bench who'll enter around the 70th minute and just run recklessly in the middle of the field, hoping todisrupt the other team and catch their tired legs off guard. He's the Bobby Jackson of the MNT: The energy 12th man.

And I hate the argument about his size and pace. He's got slightly the same build as Rossi yet look at the development he's made. As someone alludedto earlier, playing under Sir Ferguson and the ManU Reserves would have done WONDERS for Freddy. Ah well. Good job US Soccer, you completely @$!+%+ that oneup by not pushing him overseas. When are Garber and Gulati going to learn that MLS will never develop world class footballers?

No need to get on zizou for one mistake. Rest was pretty much on point.

I don't think Gulati will ever learn. We need someone in charge who has no ties to MLS.

yes i do follow u.s. soccer.

when i mentioned benny, i meant that he was still getting PT for the nats while not playing at derby.

yes, i know that he's playing now for his club after his injury.

i wouldn't say jozy took his spot because they're different players.

jozy's a natural forward or target forward or whatever you wanna call it.

freddy's more of a support striker or an attacking midfielder.
