4300 is a banging bike! Strong & Light, for the price of course, overall a great bang for your buck starter bike. I had these yellow fire tires on it. Toobad I sold it for $300 on craigslist last year, I need a bigger apt

thanks my dude,
how's this Trek?

trek 3900, I don't know what size it is though I'm looking for something with a 18" frame I guess

I'm don't know how tall you are...but that Trek is uber small maybe like a 15" don't buy it unless your really small.....

Look for something like this.....

Hardtail, Front suspension, Disc brakes..

As for brand i would go for a Kona , they have a nice line up of entry level machines

If you can try and find a 29'er....
does dude really need a front suspension if he's never going to take it on the trails?

I would answer yes and no, some surfaces may be flat but some roads have cracks that cause the ride to be a bit uncomfortable for some people sohaving it is a personal preference. And some people buy bikes that already have it so why take it out if it's already there.

Nah not really, but when someone mentions mountain bikes front suspension is one of the first this thing to pop in my mind and i didn't wantto recommend a rigid fork mountain bike to a beginner. Most recent suspension forks have a lock out so you can go rigid when ever you want.....
t

true....I jsut see a lot of bikes with suspension forks...and you know they're only being used on pavement.

.I've taken my crazy old 800 on trails and I'm still good to go...although I wouldn't mind a suspension fork considering I've had my frontwheel bearings rebuilt a whole bunch of times

Dirty, I think you should go for the suspension forks and save yourself the rebuild. Not a biggie on mountain bikes but my dad's bike is pretty comfortablewhen I'm riding hard (pause)
laugh.gif
I prefer track/road bikes such as my temporary bike my Trek 2300:pimp:

honestly...I'll probably spring for disc brakes before I upgrade my fork....I'm too old to go trail riding anymore.

I've actually got the blue one up for sale if anybody is interested. Email me for specs. $650 shipped. 2008 model. The 09 model would cost you $1300.

I did my first REAL trail ride yesterday, and let me tell you, those up hills and down hills with just straight up ROCKS are insane
eek.gif

I don't know how people go down them so fast but it was crazy, I had to go real slow on some of the downhills cause it was just straight up huge rocks, notrail or anything. Apparently they are called 'technical' downhills and uphills. the uphills were very challenging also but can be doable, just gottabe in decent shape and have balance

it was super fun though and a hell of a work out, I barely had to stop and did the trail in about an hour. Wanna go back and do it a few more times to kindabe comfortable on the trail then move on to another one

I put my bike through hell yesterday and it held up like a champ so I'm happy with that

that Cannondale looks nice! Are you looking to buy used?

Since the sun is shining for longer now, I'm gonna start hitting the trails again soon

I've been neglecting my bike this winter
i'm pretty sure i'm gonna eat it a few times lol. I haven't hit up any real trails in months
